economy. no shutdowns will go into effect today in san francisco and amy hollyfield is live with what will be closed now. >> reporter: we are at the westfield shopping? are on market street. look behind me, they had signs printed up saying come in, we are open. they will have to take those signs down today. they are going to have to close. indoor malls now must close in san francisco, and nonessential offices also must close. and that is because san francisco made the state's watch list. the number of covid-19 cases and hospitalizations is on the rise here. so these businesses must close. many business owners are now saying that they aren't sure they will survive this. >> over 47% of the chamber business members have said that they have either lost 100% of sales or shut down permanently. >> reporter: malls had been allowed to reopen about a month

ago in mid june, but now they are closing again. the city's health officer says san francisco can do better, saying people need to change their behave, they need to cover their faces and stop gathering together. no word on how long this new round of closures will be in place. in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. san francisco city officials are issuing a new health order today in an effort to expand testing. the new order requires health care providers to offer same day testing for people who have symptoms or people who have been in close contact with an infected person. they will also be required to test asymptomatic work work work w who -- work i ers who are first responders. and the governor newsom will carry his news conference at 234507b tod noon today. last weekend that those on the

watch list cannot reopen schools in the fall. the oakland community food market is closed for the next 72 hours to be deep cleaned and this is because an employee tested positive for coronavirus there. managers say other employees may have been exposed to the virus. a market will review its safety policy and consult with the allege today cou alameda county health department. and swimmers will need to pre-register online for their time and lane to prevent overcrowding. locker rooms and showers will be off-limits. and in the beginning only adult lap swim and individual exercise will be allowed and as restrictions ease, classes and then programs will be allowed to resume with some modifications. however, a date for the pools to reopen hasn't been released. and we want to clear up the confusion really about what is open, what is closed in each county.

support, something that is heartbreaking to his son vincent who is following in his father's foot steps and currently serving our country in south korea. >> my job is literally to protect and serve my country and my country is being defeated by something that i can't even protect my own family from and friends, you know. and that really affects me. >> reporter: gilbert was admitted to the hospital july 3. and his wife and daughter was also diagnosed with the virus. they had their own battles but are doing well today. while they are frustrated about the spread at san quentin, their focus is what comes next. >> we just need to figd out wur what is the best solution to keep everyone safe. >> reporter: vincent says wrestling is part of his training, something that reminds him of his dad. >> when i used to wrestle as a kid, my dad was always there

watching from my corner and always been supportive. >> reporter: he still letters hletters -- remembers his last conversation with his father. >> he is on the ventilator now and before he was on any of that, he just told me that he will be okay and, you know, like i'll get through this. >> reporter: and the community has certainly come up big. there was a goal of raising $25,000 and at last check, they raised more than $55,000. j.r. stone, abc 7 news. happening today, hundreds of health care workers in the north bay will walk off the job for a five day strike according to the press democrat, workers at santa rosa memorial hospital are protesting several issues including proposed increases to employee health care costs, reductions in paid tai time off and the lack of ppe during the pandemic. the hospital says some services are being rescheduled, but the emergency department will be

hills during the evening commute. most of us in the mid-50s to low 60s. here is a look at your bay bridge toll plaza commute, and all over it will be a little breezy and k407 choppy there. cool to mild on mass transit this morning into the afternoon hours. north bay, cloudy conditions and 59. sunshine by 10:00. by the time we get to noon, it should be pretty sub any everywhere except for the coast. we'll hang out in the upper 70s for a couple hours before going down to 66 during the evening. south bay, upper 70s for a couple hours this afternoon. and 68 at 8:00. and here is a look at the east bay east bay valleys, sunshine will help us jump into the low 80s for a couple hours. 69 by about 8:00. so a comfortable evening on the way. in fact temperatures will be below average for several days

alameda boulevard from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. tonight and tomorrow night. southbound lanes will be closed the same time wednesday through saturday and traffic will detour on to interstate 280. we know these are challenging times. rest assured, you are not alone.

salas, her son daniel, a freshman in college, opened the door and was immediately shot and killed. the judge's husband who is a criminal defense attorney was then shot several times. he is in critical condition. judge salas was in the became of t basement and unharmed. her neighbors are stunned. >> when my grandson would come to visit from california, he is the same age of daniel, he spent a lot of time with them, and when they came to california, they took my grandson out. so the kids remained friends. >> reporter: the motive this morning is still unknown. investigators are also looking into whether the shooting may be connected to her husband's work as a criminal defense attorney. judge salas was the first latina to serve on the federal bench in new jersey. san francisco police are looking for the thief who targeted a federal drug enforcement agent's car sometime over the weekend. the thief broke into the

unparked car sometime between friday evening and sunday afternoon. police say no gun was taken, but the dea tells abc 7 news that some of the gear and ammo were st stolen. there is an ongoing investigation. today hundreds of union members and activists will rally against racial injustice to build a better bay area. they want the government to support black lives in police killings and invest in public services that help minority groups. protesters will gather outside of city hall at noon, this is part of a nationwide call for equity. there are planned protests today in more than two dozen says. a new "black lives matter" street mural is at the gardens at lake merritmerritt. members of the justice project and east bay year arts center

are calling for their solidarity. and they also planted fresh flowers as part of the project are. today georgia democrats will meet to discuss who will replace la late congressman john lewis on the november ballot. he died friday. and his family spoke publicly for the first time yesterday. >> while we grieve the loss of this legend, we're blessed to know that he touched so many people on every corner of the globe. he fought until the very end. that was my big brother. he was a fighter with a tenacious spirit, but he was also gracious and kind hearted. >> and also this morning there are about half a billion signatures on a petition to rename the edmund pettus bridge to the john lewis bridge. in 1965, an alabama state trooper beat lewis on the bridge during a protest march. pettus was a confederate general

watch it all at the same time and then we can talk. >> i know. >> wouldn't that be fun? >> maybe. >> we'll work on that. all right. let's talk about what is going on weather wise. hi, everybody. welcome to monday. hopefully you had a good weekend. temperatures were really different yesterday and they will continue to be on the cooler side of average. as we head through most of the week, and that means that we'll have overnight clouds just about everywhere. and we'll have a slight warming trend this weekend. here is a look at how stubborn the clouds are. and by noon, there are still plenty of clouds around the bay and the coastal valleys and they never go away, so it will be the east bay and south bay that will see the most sunshine and have the most warmth today. upper 70s to mid-80s, 77 to 84 s bay.

peninsula, mid-70s. 61 to 63 along the peninsula coast. 63 in downtown san francisco. that is about four degrees cooler than we should be. plus it will be breezy this afternoon. we'll have mid-70s to mid 80s through most of the north bay valleys. east bay shore, berkeley may not even break out of the 60s. 69 today. richmo richmond and oakland at 70. as you head into the east bay valley, 80 to about 86 degrees. look at all the gray tonight with temperatures in the 50s across the board. the 7 day forecast, not much of a change tuesday. there is a slight chance as an area of low pressure approaches us wednesday that we could have more drizzle and a little cooler temperatures in the afternoon hours. drizzle would be in the morning. and then we're still below average thursday and friday and you can see just a very lightup are tick in those temperatures saturday and sunday. pg&e is working on a major pipeline replacement project in

welcome back. beco let's take a look at the air quality advisory that continues because of the smoke that is still being proud by the mineral fire. overall the air quality will be fine, but there will be some small pockets where it could be unhealthy for those most susceptible. let me show you the smoke forecast. you can see the mineral fire down to our south and some of the smoke into the south bay and east bay through the morning hours. and then notice by the time we get to monday afternoon, it is really a hot spot to our south and with a northwesterly wind starting to kick in by tomorrow morning most of the smoke is in the san joaquin valley and then that is where it will stay tomorrow. so keep your fingers crossed we don't have that air quality advisory after today. i am working on the august fire

forecast, it is not looking good. i'll have those details coming up in the next half hour. and if you have to leave us, check me out on social media, mike nicco abc 7. and happening today, walmart, sam's club, kohl's and kroger and lowes will require masks for anybody who comes inside. the new rule goes into effect amid the national surge in coronavirus cases. walmart says 65% of its stores are already located in states where there is some kind of law that requires masks like here in california. starting today, delta air lines says that passengers who cannot wear masks for medical reasons are subject to a health screening before they can get on the flight. the airline says people who don't want to wear masks should just reconsider flying all together. but if they have to fly, they will be given a private health screening over the phone. it will determine whether the person can fly without a mask.

a restaurant in san francisco is temporarily closed. the cliff house was preparing to reopen for the indoor dining, but that was put on hold. yesterday was the last day for takeout and in a letter posted on facebook, the restaurant says that it is hanging on to its resources so that it will be able to reopen in the future. baseball is back in the bay tonight. the giants and as will play the first of two bay bridge series exhibition games. this will mark the first professional bay area sporting event since things shut down back in march. the giants host tomorrow night. they serve as a great tuneup before the regular season starts later this week. >> it is important that we do get to play a couple games against another team that will feel like a real game as oppose to ed to what we've been doing. >> we're pretty excited that opening day is coming, that we have a real exhibition series to
