to decide whether to screen students for the coronavirus when or if they re-open but a group of doctors, they're urging officials to not only keep schools closed but to shut down the u.s. again. this morning, new images from inside a covid icu in the rio grande valley as the situation in texas turns desperate. this hospital on the verge of making decisions based on patients' chances of survival. >> we don't have the resources to be helping them. >> reporter: with deaths and hospitalizations rising in many states across the country, 150 doctors signed this public letter telling america's decision makers that the u.s. needs to shut down again amid the surge. dr. anne rimoin signed that letter. >> we all opened up too soon. we underestimated the virus. we underestimated spread. >> reporter: despite the surge in cases, the cdc laying out its new guidelines for schools nationwide, making a push to get

kids back into the classroom. this just a week after president trump criticized the original guidelines as too tough and expensive. the cdc recommending schools keep kids in pods, use social distancing and recommends students and staff wear face coverings. parents facing a tough decision. >> i don't feel comfortable with my kids going to school as of yet because this virus is still not over yet. >> i believe they need to be in school. more one-on-one, more interaction with the other kids. >> reporter: some school districts like in houston, texas, they're pushing back their school start date and that's an option that many schools are considering. back over to you. >> stephanie, thanks so much. let's turn to andrew dymburt who is following president trump in his latest response to the pandemic. andrew, good morning. >> reporter: and good morning. the president returning here to new jersey at his golf club in bedminster. and before leaving the white house for the weekend, the president meeting with florida governor ron desantis and signing executive orders aimed at lowering prescription drug

>> like father, like son. >> janai, thank you so much. >> pete carroll. i said steve. anyway, not a fan of football. >> but your son is a fan of avocado toast. >> your son is not a fan of pants. turning now to our cover story and a study that deemed some surgeons, quote, inappropriate attire as potentially unprofessional content to post on social media. the medical community has fired back. adrienne bankert joins us now with more. good morning to you, adrienne. >> reporter: good morning, eva. yeah, the editors of the journal the study was published in say they believe the true intent of the authors of this paper was to advise young surgeons about the risks of social media. but that sadly there was a failure to communicate. health care professionals flooded social media on friday with photos of themselves trading in their white coats for bathing suits. all with the hashtag med bikini, the clap back following a study published in "vascular surgery"

which deemed posts like these as potentially unprofessional. >> i don't feel that because i have doctor in front of my name that should hold me to a different social media standard. >> reporter: prove lens -- prevalence of unprofessional social media content among young vascular surgeons, the study looked at the social media accounts of nearly 500 young surgery trainees. male and female. and concluded more than one-quarter of the accounts contained, quote, unprofessional content like images holding alcoholic beverages and inappropriate attire in photos. like people in their underwear, provocative halloween costumes and provocative poses in bikinis or swimwear. 26-year-old london robinson said she was outraged by the study starting that med bikini hashtag. >> i'm pleasantly pleased with how it took off. this visceral reaction of social media to come together as a med professional unit and say, we are very sick of primarily white men framing how we can and cannot act.

>> reporter: 32-year-old dr. safi, fourth year psychiatrist resident at abc news, used to compete in beauty pageants and modelled throughout med school. she said she was often told posting images of herself in a bikini undermined her professional. >> i could be intellectual. i could be caring. i could have the best intentions for my patients and yet it comes down to how i choose to dress and how i choose to behave outside of my profession. >> reporter: friday two of the study's seven authors apologized for the paper's contents. one dr. jeff syracuse writing in a tweet since deleted, we realize our design had the potential for significant gender bias, particularly with male authors assessing the appropriateness of women's as well as men's clothing. to clarify, our classification scheme, the so-called inappropriate attire category included both women and men in swimsuits without shirts on. six of the seven listed authors have ties to boston medical

medical workers that have been bused in to this hot spot staying at our hotel, and they were rolling out the door this morning to work at the local hospital. so hats off to them and all the work that they're doing here. now during a hurricane. which is what hanna is. less than 100 miles off the coast now, and winds and rain, as you can see, are picking up here. winds of 75 miles per hour will remain a category 1. maybe get more strong as it comes onshore. hurricane warnings posted for corpus christi and points to the south. we'll put the maps in motion and show you what the radar looks like in advance. winds will gust over 60 miles an hour easily in corpus christi, good saturday morning. here's the view from mount tam looking pretty typical, but we'll scour out these clouds a little bit sooner. so the fog around the coast this morning but afternoon sun and warmer weekend and looking at minor fluctuations to start the workweek. highs today about 80 in fremont,

thank you so much for joining us. let's start with tv. tell us what tv show you're loving. >> good morning, janai. good morning, america. okay, i have become utterly consumed by the adventure reality show called "alone." it takes place in patagonia, argentina, all the way up to the canadian arctic. let me tell you this show is absolutely brutal. okay, ten contestants who are essentially trained survivalists are left to survive in the wilderness for as long as possible, last man standing wins $500,000. but don't worry because they get to take ten items of their choosing. unfortunately, a tv isn't one of them. i would not survive a day out there. items do vary from contestant to contestant, and they're completely alone. totally isolated and have to film themselves. it is kind of something we relate to during this time. the seventh season is currently airing on the history channel right now. this time this season, if you

so should you speed up retirement or put it on hold, is the question many americans are aski. take a look. >> reporter: the pandemic has put our day to day lives on hold, and now some americans are faced with one of the most difficult career decisions. retirement. about 30% of employed investors say it's very or somewhat likely that they will delay the age at which they retire. tina willis, a lawyer, was planning to transition to a part-time schedule at the end of the year, but a pan demic put her plans on hold. >> it was just sort of planning a vacation that gets canceled. i mean that's how it feels. we were kind of planning on that one last, you know, full year of income before i started just cutting back to part time. >> reporter: some americans are using the pandemic to kick start retirement early like deandra valentine, who had long-term goals but is now rethinking her plan. >> we are basically not doing any business. it appears that we won't have

any business probably until middle to late 2021. we're just looking at our options to see going from two-income family to one income. >> reporter: but still a sense of optimism. >> if it's that point in our lives that we have to retire and allow other people to come into the workforce, then maybe it might be a good time for us to take a second seat. >> joining us now, mr. wonderful himself, "shark tank's" kevin o'leary. kevin, nice to see you on a saturday morning. >> great to be here, thank you. >> so what do we need to know if we're considering putting retirement off? >> the key thing about retirement whether you're putting it on or off is not to talk about it with your employer until you've made a decision. things change. you heard tina talking about her decision as a lawyer. you don't want that law firm knowing that she's considering checking out. it changes her status within the organization. also, you should prepare yourself to reduce your lifestyle from anywhere from 20% to 30%.

that's how you get ready to retire, even when considering it. >> any other things we should do to prepare if we want to kick-start an early retirement? >> absolutely. you know, what happens in retirement, obviously, is you've got to have a plan to have something tying up your brain. you want to be busy. and so a lot of people go into retirement without thinking through what their strategy is. they're working one day and they're just looking at a blank wall the next. that is a bad plan. you have to have retirement plans, like travel, which isn't happening now, or catch up on reading. make you have hobbies but should take out 90 days of your expenditure costs in cash. because you are going to have to reduce your lifestyle in retirement. you're on a fixed income at that point. >> what is mr. wonderful going to do in retirement? >> well, the whole world is digitizing. in retirement i'd like to stay busy, so i'm learning all about social media and becoming a videographer and a photographer. every business out there is trying to hire more people to tell their story direct to their

customer. that's what's happening as a result of the pandemic in the united states and also happening all around the word. if you want a part-time hustle become a videographer or photographer or learn how to use social media to tell stories. >> i love it. >> got a plan. >> put that in my back pocket as well. kevin, thank you very much. really appreciate it. let's switch gears and get over to rob, who is in texas, covering what has been upgraded to a hurricane, i believe. >> reporter: hurricane hanna. dan, the weather is getting frisky here to say the least, but one of three named storms happening right now. let's show them to you, gonzalo out in the caribbean. that's the least of our worries at this point. douglas, that's something to be reckoned with. at one point a category 4 storm. now a cat 2 heading toward hawaii and hurricane watches up for oahu. that's where it will make its closest pass tomorrow afternoon. we could see enough winds to take down power lines, and certainly flash flooding because of the heavy rain there. hanna, a hurricane as you
