people that were gathered i saw people from all different backgrounds, people from all different parts of this nation that came to honor an american hero as he made his final journey across this bridge. and you know, back in march, john lewis was here and he gave some parting advice to the next generation to get in good trouble. to get in the way. and so many people that came out here today say they want to continue on his legacy. they wanted to come here to say good-bye and let him know that we got it from here, george. >> thomas, one of the last of his generation. >> george, the greatest generation of civil rights leaders, we're losing them one by we lost reverend lowery in march. in the past days we lost c.t. vivian. john lewis believed that this new generation could take on the torch and get the job done, continue to push forward.

we shall see, george. >> and byron pitts, it comes at a time when america as i said is so divided and is trying to figure out where the fights are for this new generation. and i think, george, we can look to the life and activism of john lewis. in 1965 john lewis was considered by many in power in this country as an agitator. as a troublemaker. as an extremist. that bridge into the arms of hate. today he rides into the warm embrace of history. george, at the end of this journey, john lewis did make i dr. king and when they arrived in montgomery dr. king said these words appropriate then. they seem appropriate now.

i know some of you are asking today how long will it take? i come to you to say this afternoon however difficult the moment, however frustrating the hour, it will not be long, because truth pressed to the earth will rise again. how long? not long because no lie can live forever. how long? not long because you reap what you sew. how long, not long because the arm of the moral universe is long but it points towards justice. how long? not long because my eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the lord trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored. he is loosening the lightning of his swift sword. his truth is marching on. john lewis said he smiled that day and for those us who were raised in church, people of faith, we can imagine that john lewis is smiling now. his journey is over, but george, the work contio that, bryananth

the coast until later on today. here is san jose right now, low 80s by noontime. inland we're about 90 later today. wall nuclenut creek, pleasantone 60s. this morning, the body of congressman john lewis crossed the edmond pettus bridge in selma, alabama for a final time. that bridge is where lewis and other voting rights demonstrators were beaten on blood sunday 50 years ago. abc 7 news reporter rachel scott is in selma with more on how alabama is remembering lewis this weekend. >> reporter: this morning, an american hero returns to selma for the final time. the life of john robert lewis, celebrated in the city where he nearly lost it. >> that was john.

always fighting for what he believed in, willing to risk his own life for the betterment of humanity. >> reporter: it was here in selma where a young john lewis bled for the right to vote. at 25 years old, leading demonstrators on a march to montgomery, they were met by state troopers. lewis, hit by a billy club, suffered a fractured skull. he and the others returned to brown chapel church, a place of refuge and healing. >> this was our meeting place. this was our shelter. >> they told him not to get in trouble. we all know john got in trouble. all the troubles he got himself into changed the world. >> now that congressman john robert lewis has fought the good fight of faith in marching and standing in the fight for

freedom and justice, we celebrate him as he receives the righteous ground that only the chief judge can give. >> reporter: rachel scott, abc news, selma, alabama. >> a programming note, "this week with george stephanopoulos" will air at midnight tonight because of the abc news special report you just saw. chief anchor george stephanopoulos goes one on one is mark meadows in his first interview since become chief of staff, watch at midnight right here on abc 7. it started running through police headquarters, sky was overhead giving you a birds eye view of the demonstrators marching in portland last night in oakland. you can see protesters holding

up peace signs. everything we saw was largely ef. one point fireworks were shot, with several lasers being pointed at helicopters and officers. oakland police are reporting their building was also vandalized. they tweeted this photo showing a broken window. the building was spray painted with graffiti. around 10:15 last night a small debris fire broke out at the alameda superior county courthouse in downtown oakland. in a tweet, oakland police blamed it on, quote, agitators within the crowd of demonstrators. again, the large majority of protesters were peaceful. in palo alto yesterday, the wall of moms made some noise in support of portland protesters. the wall of moms group was formed to shield young and vulnerable protesters to keep them from being injured and they've been prevalent in the

ongoing portland protesters. now to the latest there in portland where last night marked the 59th night of protests in a row. military veterans banded together in support of the demonstrators, some wearing black lives matter shirts. >> we were all born here. it's on our fence, it's on our property. take it down, it's already been ruled illegal. take it down and leave our town. our police were doing a fine job and they're still doing a fine job. >> similar protests in solidarity with portland were held yesterday in l.a., seattle, and houston. one person was shot and killed in a protest in austin, texas. locally in vallejo this morning, the solano county district attorney has been given today only to open a police investigation into the shooting of a 22-year-old when police responded to a report of looting.

the city attorney has repeatedly asked the solano county d.a. to investigate but the d.a. has recused herself siting public mistrust. the interim city attorney says if one isn't opened by tonight he will file a rare mandate tomorrow to force an investigation. all this comes after gruesome body camera footage was released in the shooting. the state attorney general's office says it is investigating introduction of evidence in the shooting but not the shooting itself. today his sisters are organizing a paddle-out to honor him at noon. there will also be a car caravan in redwood city at 1:30 this morning. today in the north bay, another show of solidarity with the black lives matter movement. this time supporters will be on horseback. brianna noble is leading the charge today. photos like these of her riding her horse at an oakland protest went viral.

the surf is coming back down. they had five-foot surf into the beaches. that's going to get slowly better. but we'll keep our eye here on hurricane dennis -- or douglas, i should say, moving to the west-northwest at 16. hurricane warnings for oahu, mali, and kawhi. you can see how dangerously close it gets to the islands right on through monday. not expecting it to weaken. we are expecting it to come on into the islands here, just graze the islands with those strong winds, up to about 90 miles. we're looking at those clouds scattering out here, mt. tam, it is 63 in oakland with numbers in the mid-60s for mountain view, 64 in san jose, clouds here in san francisco staying put for a little while longer. 56, santa rosa. 59 in napa. mid-60s, sunny skies, for you in

concord and livermore. we're ending where we should be this time of year with the typical summertime pattern, the morning fog, the afternoon sun. and really just very little change as we go through monday, tuesday. we will cool off on wednesday, but then we quickly rebound. as we look at where we should be, that's the orange column to the right of the highs today. notice that we're in a range but slightly above average, anywhere from one to four degrees. but overall, things have been really calm and typical for this time of year. and we like that, because the heat spikes, well, you know what that brings with the wind and the fire danger. but so far, it has been pretty quiet. 91 in concord. or 83 today in the south bay, around san jose. 73 in richmond with 67 in san francisco. the accuweather seven-day forecast, we've got another warm day tomorrow inland. mild around the bay. cool at the coast. and that trend continues into tuesday. the cooler weather arrives wednesday with the breezy winds.

>> reporter: in marin county, coronavirus cases are on the rise. san quentin prison has much of the outbreak. but take that out of the equation and most of the cases in the county are concentrated here. the canal is 80% latino and largely low income. you won't find the mansions here. rather, the densely-crowded apartments of the county's essential workers. this woman is an immigrant from guatemala who workers as a house keep and her lives in an apartment with nine of her family members including two of her children with underlying health conditions. she and her husband recently had coronavirus.

she's since tested negative. but when she was positive, she let her clients know and stopped working. >> translator: some reacted, "i hope you are well, you and your family." others asked, "why, didn't you take care of yourself?" they wanted to know how and where we became infected. we only go to work, get gas, find food. it was very difficult to find out we were positive. >> reporter: she doesn't know where exactly she became infected. but she's part of a broader story. lines currently account for 80% of the county's coronavirus cases while being 16% of the county's population. let's the largest racial disparity in the area. >> our landscape workers, our construction workers. the virus is a truth teller around inequities. >> reporter: if there is one person working to bridge these

inequities, it's omar carrera of the canal alliance. because the area is such a hotspot, the county has strategic set up testing sites here. but even then, there are challenges. you can see these long lines of people here today. some people saying they showed up at 7:00 a.m., six hours before this site opened. and there still are not enough tests. >> i tell a lot of people, all the tests are done for today. a lot of people will be disappointed. but it is what it is, i cannot control how many tests we do in a day. >> reporter: he says their site is given between 80 and 120 tests twice a week and it's never enough. >> translator: i asked for help. ma rent county called me and told me you tested positive, you need to be home, get away from your family, get away from your children. i could not leave my children. where was i going to go?

i need food for my children or to pay the rent. don't worry, he told me, tomorrow we're going to help you. what did they bring me? a potato, two squash, expired ground meat for hamburgers. what could i do with those things? >> reporter: the county says they are working on solutions, ramping up testing and offering income supplementation, food, and housing to those who test positive. important steps but, as omar has seen firsthand, not always perfect ones in practice. >> so this idea that i stay home, safe, shelter myself, and i don't care about what's happening around me, that is the wrong perception, because we are so interconnected. and latinos, what the pandemic has done is shown us that if one person in our comsa. t cal problemare marin ros.

mountain view, 65, with sunny skies in san jose. it's 57 in santa cruz. southwest winds up to 10 miles per hour today, temperatures in the upper 60s with sunny conditions. 56 santa rosa. it will take a little while for you to get some sun. with the mid-60s by the delta and inland, we will be looking at numbers climbing through the 80s. our warmest readings of course touching 90 inland, upper 70s around the bay. then the fog comes back into play tonight. that's going to give us our typically summertime pattern for most of it week ahead but not all. we'll have the details in a few minutes, liz. >> lisa, thank you. developing news in texas where hurricane hannah is expected to bring more bands of rain today. the timing of the storm is making matters even more difficult in a region already facing serious challenges due to a spike in covid-19 cases. abc news meteorologist rob marciano is in corpus christi with a look at some of the damage. >> reporter: overnight, hurricane hannah slamming south texas.

the strong category 1 storm pounding corpus christi and points south with powerful winds, strong enough to knock over this semi. and flooding rains, dangerous storm surge too. we're in the eye wall of hurricane hannah which is making landfall on the coast of south texas with 90-mile-per-hour winds. texas takes a direct hit from the earliest hurricane of the season. the strong winds peeling off roofs and snapping structures in half. trees knocked , ro wit power across the area. the storm surge in corpus christi so high it left roadways like this one submerged in floodwaters. with covid-19 complicating rescue efforts, the governor issues a disaster declaration for 32 counties. emergency operation centers activated. >> it is sweeping through an area that is the most challenged

area in the state for covid-19. >> reporter: south texas and the rio grande valley one of the hardest hit areas of the state in this pandemic. officials urging residents to reach out if they need help. >> make sure that you're safe, you're separated, your sanitized, we'll feed you, we're here to help 100%. >> and that was rob marciano reporting. this morning hannah was downgraded to a tropical storm. your voice, your vote. we're 100 days away from the election. former vice president joe biden's campaign says they're, quote, firing on all cylinders. combined with the democcommitten says they will have 2,000 staff on board next month. tomorrow an ad buy is going up in six key battleground states that donald trump won in 2016. in weeks, biden is expected to name the woman who will join him on the ticket. a new poll finds eight in ten americans says the country is

ramon is spending the day with her daughter in dolores park. new rules from the san francisco department of public health now require kids 10 and older to wear a mask in public. her daughter is 7 1/2. but mom isn't taking chances. >> i'll keep her wearing one even though she's under 10. she'll wear one until this is cleared up. >> reporter: a mill valley pediatrician says kids are still at risk. >> we have about the trimminansmission. children can transmit it even if they have no symptoms. >> reporter: even if you're alone in common areas, like an elevator, dr. grant colfax says, substantial scientific evidence shows that when combined with physical distancing and other health and safety practices, face coverings significantly reduce the chance of covid-19 spreading in the community. >> i mean, it's my profession.

welcome back. today marks 30 years since the americans with disability act was signed. the law's beginnings are traced back to a protest right here in san francisco. in 1977, more than 150 people occupied the federal building at civic center for nearly a month. they demanded that the government enforce an act that federally funded organizations could not discr a people with disabilities. 13 years later, president george h.w. bush signed the act into law in 1990. to celebrate today's anniversary, the group will be fixing cracked sidewalks in the mission and van ness to make it safer. the oakland zoo held a very successful virtual fundraiser. the event was created ahead of e zoo's reopening. the zoo raised $507,000 last night, surpassing their $500,000 goal. viewers got to watch talks with

that's good. it's been sunny all morning long in our east bay valleys and into the south bay. but that deck of low clouds, a little bit at aller this morning. we're going to have temperatures once again with that summertime feel around the bay area. so as we look at one of our east bay cities, walnut creek right where you should be in the upper 80s today, tomorrow, maybe a degree cooler. it's wednesday when you might notice the cooling. it's going to be about six degrees or so cooler than what you're experiencing today. then coming up slowly on thursday, but 90s return for everyone else in our east bay valleys by the end of the week into the weekend, as high pressure builds in from the south. here is a look at san rafael, kind of in and out of the clouds. but low cloud decks situated of course at the shoreline. it's going to be a little tough today to get some sun. yesterday i think it was a better bet to get some sun at the coast. we'll call it mostly cloudy, a

few peeks out there later on today. here is a look at live doppler 7. our visible imagery showing mt. tam, sunny skies, around fremont and san jose is nice and sunny. so the fog bank all the way along the coast here. we'll still look at the sea breeze, southerly winds up through marin county. it will keep you comfortable but otherwise warm in parts of the bay. mild here on our east bay with temperatures back into the 70s later on today. in the upper 50s right now with the clouds downtown. 69 in mountain view, 64 in san jose with 56 on the into the 60sanoonguroof camera here, a lot of gray out there. 56 with the clouds up in santa rosa. novato, 63. mid-60s by the delta. that delta breeze up to about 24 miles an hour, mid- to from concord and livermore. sfo has been nice with the 70s from san mateo down the

peninsula, warming through the 80s. so with the typical summertime pattern, mild to warm temperatures, looking at the morning clouds, the afternoon sun, pretty much the same pattern as we get into tomorrow and tuesday. it's wednesday when we'll see a little bit cooler temperatures below average. then we'll be above average by the end of the week. and into the weekend. if you like it warm, morgan hill has been warm at 89. 86 in gilroy. 80 in milpitas. numbers from the 70s to the low 80s ined city. los altos, 82. 69 in south city with a sunny afternoon on the way. 81 in santa rosa. if you want it really warm, cloverdale in the mid- to upper 70s today. nice afternoon in oakland. 79 in redwood city. castor valley, 78. heading inland, temperatures can be much warmer than this this time of year, but pretty nice with 87 in san ramon valley. the accuweather seven-day forecast, we'll keep the
