buildingesidio care facility. there have been 1,000 cases in just ten days, and we're seeing a new peak in hospitalizations. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live with the concerns about the hospital capacity and the new surge. >> reporter: yeah, if you were wondering how concerned officials are about the covid cases here in san francisco, you are looking at it. these warehouse buildings here in the presidio have been turned into field hospitals to help deal with the surge. so they have added extra beds to make room for covid patients in the hospitals. right now they have 107 covid patients in the hospital in san francisco. health officials say at the current rate, they could have more than 750 in the hospital by mid october. so this temporary medical facility has been created, it is

not for covid patients, they will treat other issues here to open up space in the hospitals. >> it is not a drop-in acute care site, testing location or shelter. so don't visit this location for any of those services. >> reporter: right now they can treat 20 people here at this makeshift hospital, but the plan is to eventually have room for 93 patients. right now the city's hospitals are not overrun. they do have room for everyone. and it could stay that way. officials say if everyone would did their part, wear their masks and don't gather with people outside of your home. they say that could really help stop -- or slow the spread. but if it does continue to spread, they now have these extra beds here in the presidio. amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. coronavirus outbreaks are being reported at several shoit

>> here is a look at your latest confirmed cases in the bay area. we're over 51,500, but they also include people who tested positive and have recovered. alameda county continues to have the most cases now over 11,000. and it reported 72 new cases yesterday alone. contra costa county reporting 7 more people have died, that is the highest one day total. and that pushed the number of local covid-19 deaths in the bay area to 808. san francisco is opening a new emergency hospital site because of a surge in coronavirus cases. and there have been 1,000 new cases in just ten days. 107 covid patients are in hospitals right now, the most since the pandemic started. the facility will be at the presidio and able to handle 93 people if necessary. health leaders want to be ready if they cannot slow the surge of cases. new questions this morning about the state's coronavirus watch list. some county officials say

getting off the list isn't just complicated, it is nearly impossible. every bay area county is now on that list with san mateo being the last county to be added earlier are this week. solano was the first on the list june 29th. getting on the list means a county failed to meet just one of the state's six indicators related to new cases, hospitalizations and hospital capacity. to get off the watch list, a county has to be within the threshold for all metrics for three days. it is possible that our county remain on the watch list for a very long time because we aren't going to be able to change those behaviors adequately to reduce the number of. >> and even after meeting all the state's requirements, it is possible that the county would have to reapply for a new variance. now, that adds new hoops to jump through and that would have to do all that before getting the demean light to reopen. we are tracking every county in

i'm tracking hurricane isaias headed toward the east coast. powerful waves are battering the shoreline in the dominican republic. it is expected to reach the central bahamas later today and move near southern florida tomorrow. isaias could impact parts of the bahamas devastated by hurricane dorian last year. puerto rico and the bahamas just can't get a break. here is the latest, 80-mile-per-hour winds and along with the flooding rains, it is right around matthewtown in the southern bahamas. they had gusts up to 60 miles per hour just within the last hour. i'll show you the forecast track and what to expect coming up in

appointing a special prosecutor settles a dispute between the d.a. and california's attorney general. both tried to avoid probing mccoy's death. officers claim mccoy threatened them by reaching for a gun. his loved ones accuse police of using excess difference force. and dozens rallied outside of drake high school in support of changing the school's name. it was named after sir fwran sis dra francis drake the last 70 years and now the district is changing the name because of drake's link to the slave trade. this week they started the process of removing so he for a m sophia martin, in the graduating sclaclass, has had is for a long time. >> simply changing the name, no, i don't believe that it will do anything. >> the school district agrees that curriculum needs to change and it needs to hire more
