at 9:00 this morning. and governor newsom will employ a live briefing at noon. and we are focusing on education. closings digital divide is now more important than ever. and julian glover is live with what san jose is doing to help those kids. >> reporter: good morning. a big step forward in closing that digital divide for thousands of san jose students. the city is expected to announce a new partnership with at&t that will get possible hot spots in the hands of 11,000 students in san jose. they will be focused on providing the devices to k through 12 students and those most in need. the city also planning to experiment with outdoor wi-fi, libraries and community centers.

virus is spreading. epidemiologists needed specific details on every confirmed case and death from the disease including where patients live, if they are vim aare asymptomat their occupation. it is needed to help guide policy toward reopening businesses and schools. but the state has not provided that information saying that privacy laws prevent them from sharing it. many health experts say that it is not the right time to be talking about reopening the economy at the moment because of the rise in case numbers. a handy app that allows physicians to crowd source symptoms from covid-19 patients is giving the medical community a wealth of information. stanford is one of the institutions behind the app. the app is called covid symptom study. so far 4 billion people have submitted their information. researchers are grouping

so first i want to start off with a live look at the bay bridge toll plaza. it is very busy there, you can see that it is completely packed. metering lights came on a little earlier than usual at 5:45 this morning. we had a car that lost a wheel just past the metering lights. and it looks like it will be a slow ride across. across the bay bridge, it says that it will take 17 minutes. and that is just going across westbound, that does not include getting all the way into san francisco. across golden gate the he bridge, 6 minutes. and san mateo bridge, a 13 34i79 ri minute ride. and a significant alert oig has been issued for eastbound 580 just before grachbts lint line . looked like a jackknifed big rig. and also fewer people are riding public transit during the pandemic and that appears to be one of the factors driving

a covid-19 outbreak at a ymca summer camp in georgia has many parents and educators asking questions about what can be done when children return to their physical school buildings. the high harbor camp put a lot of safe guards in place. the camp even produced a video showing all the steps that they were making in hopes of making parents and students feel better about all of the precautions. and then the camp had to close after 260 of 344 people tested positive for covid-19. >> i was surprised because they had done such a great job with temp checks, with pre-screening, the counselors making sure that they were tested. >> later on gma, you will see the mistakes health officials identified for why covid-19 was able to spread so fast. that is at 7:00 right here on abc 7.
