what could be the largest gathering since the outbreak began is taking place right now. trevor ault is there in sturgis, south dakota with the latest. good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning, dan. the sturgis motorcycle rally brings in incredible crowds to south dakota every year. and this year, even with attendance down significantly, 250,000 bikers are expected to rumble through. in spite of what the country has endured in the past couple months, just about every biker i talked to said they're not afraid of the virus and they don't care about the risk of gathering in crowds. with the u.s. fast approaching 5 million confirmed cases and recording 2,000 more deaths in a 24-hour span for the first time since may, hundreds of thousands of bikers are converging on south dakota's sturgis motorcycle rally, many aware but unafraid of the pandemic as the state is seeing a daily increase in positive cases and deaths. nationwide, the horrors of the

virus continue to add up. the cdc report found staggering racial disparities among children. this morning more states heading backwards. hawaii closing oahu beaches and oregon considering limiting interstate travel, and massachusetts cutting gathering sizes in half. with no concrete end in sight dr. anthony fauci continues to say he's cautiously optimistic about a vaccine. >> we could go into the fall and winter coming out of it looking good. >> reporter: some areas are taking more aggressive steps toward returning to normal life. new york governor andrew cuomo says schools in every region can return for in-person learning. >> i want to push it as last minute as i can. really as you said, there are not a lot of specifics information. >> reporter: as health officials worry here in sturgis this could serve as a super spreader event, there will be mass testing for the population of sturgis when the rally ends next weekend. that's only 7,000 people. there's not a larger plan in

place for the 200,000 plus people coming in from across the country. whit? >> trevor ault for us, thank you. we want to turn to the concerns this morning that foreign governments are once again trying to meddle in the presidential election. china and russia reportedly favoring different candidates. abc's rachel scott joins us from bedminster, new jersey where she's following the president. rachel, good morning to you. >> reporter: whit, good morning. yes, this warning coming less than 100 days out from election day. they say foreign adversaries are trying to undermine the election. a nation's top counterintelligence official sounding the alarm that china views president trump as unpredictable and wants joe biden in the oval office and russia is working to denigrate the vice president, working to boost president trump's candidacy. the president holding a news conference at his golf club in new jersey and down played that new intelligence. >> it could be. i mean, it could be very much. i think that the last person russia wants to see in office is donald trump because nobody has

>> i know, a little bit of human contact here. we begin with oprah continuing the fight for justice for breonna taylor after putting breonna on the cover of september's issue of "o magazine" the first time in the magazine's history oprah did not appear on the cover. she's taking it a step further. plastering the same image on billboards in louisville. the city where breonna was killed. the billboards direct readers to the united freedom organization with demands the officers involved be arrested and charged along with a quote from winfrey saying, if you turn a blind eye to racism you become an accomplice to it. there will be 26 billboards in all, one for every year of breonna's life. an incredible way for oprah to use her platform. 2020 has been a whirlwind to say the least. each month presenting its own set of new challenges. reese witherspoon is summing up this year so far with a very fitting meme.

you could call it kind of a mood calendar. reese sharing this all too relatable struggle of this year with the help of some of her iconic movie characters, calling it the 2020 challenge. january you see there kicks off so hopeful with "legally blonde's" elle woods before march takes a turn. by june it's a nonstop struggle represented by her weary hiker from "wild." others did it like mindy kaling and kerry washington made their own mood calendars. they start out so cute, naive even, but eventually end in chaos. here's hoping the rest of the year is pleasant. one youtube channel has blurred the lines between video games and real life recreating moments from grand theft auto on the streets of tokyo, nailing every detail from the game graphics down to the stilted character run. the video has over 17 million views and counting with more

zohreen shah has more. hi, zohreen. >> reporter: hi, dan. gwyneth paltrow looks back on a movement she started about breaking up without losing everything. gwyneth paltrow is opening up about her 2016 separation from coldplay frontman chris martin. in an essay for british "vogue," she said she knew her marriage was over writing we tried everything. we didn't want to fail. we didn't want to let anyone down. we desperately didn't want to hurt our children. it felt almost involuntary, like the ring of a bell, she writes. i knew it. it was in my bones it was over. the term conscious uncoupling was coined first by their therapist. she says it was an attempt to be a family even if they would not be a couple. the phrase was criticized, made a punchline for late night hosts, eliciting mockery and anger. >> the only normal thing she did was get divorced. even that she has to call it

uncoupling. >> it was brutal and unfair in a time that was so difficult for anybody that's gone through a divorce and to go public. to >> reporter: today she said that conscious decision was about taking mutual responsibility for the breakup, unknowingly starting a new cultural phenomenon around breaking up, saying, now instead of people approaching me with, why did you say that, they now approach me with, how did you do that? in 2018 paltrow married brad falchuk acknowledging the turns her life took were right for her, saying, i know my ex-husband was meant to be the father of my children and i know my current husband is meant to be the person i grow very old with. in the end paltrow brings up what she calls a radical point. she says you loved your ex at one point. you probably still do and that's perfectly fine. dan, who knew? >> some healthy messages, even if we don't agree with her language in some cases.

here. thank you for joining us. let's start with movies. what do you recommend? >> i have two movies for you starting with "an american pickle." this stars seth rogen. he works for a pickle factory in 1919. one day he falls into a vat of pickles and is brined for 100 years. he wakes up in present day brooklyn and hasn't aged a day. he finds out his only living relative, great grandson named ben is played by seth rogen. plot twist here, he plays the two main characters. seth is so great in this movie. it's on hbo max. you have to check it out. i relate to it. i'm in wisconsin and the last two weeks all i've been doing is canning pickles with my mom. i have hundreds of pickles here. janai, if you need pickles, i'll send them over to new york asap. let me know. i have another great movie. if you're looking for something scarier, check out "host." this was filmed entirely on zoom.

we are back now with a trend alert for micro weddings. as the pandemic scrambles couples' plans for big gatherings, micro weddings are looking for downsized celebrations. many companies have solutions to help them tie the knot. >> you may seal this declaration with a kiss. >> reporter: as the pandemic made large gatherings like

weddings impossible, people across the country made a shift. >> we had a micro wedding. >> we decided to go a different direction. >> we had been engaged for two and a half years. we really didn't want to put it off any longer so we decided let's have a micro wedding. >> reporter: many couples deciding to not let covid-19 stop them from expressing their love. instead, scaling back. a micro wedding typically caps guests at around 50 people, mostly family and close friends. the venues are much more intimate, frequently being held in back yards and homes. the biggest difference, the price. a standard wedding costs on average $39,000, while a micro wedding could come out under $1,000. nicole was supposed to be married in july. as the date grew closer, crowd and dining restrictions made her change her plans. >> i started thinking what else can we do?

we're back with our summer of love in quarantine series. all week long we've been helping romantic hopefuls navigate the dating scene. we're joined now by "millionaire matchmaker" patti stanger. she's going to answer questions from a few of our viewers. i think we have you do this segment because my dating life was so traumatic prior to meeting my husband. this first question is from maddie in massachusetts. she sent in the question for you. let's take a look. >> when you're going on virtual dates, what's the best way to break the ice? do you have any good suggestions of activities to do? >> this is pretty tough right now. we don't have a lot of choices. the number one thing everybody is doing is watching a movie

together. they're also playing games. the most romantic thing you can do is send something like uber eats or a romantic meal to your date. that's been working a lot. >> a lot of people are having to use the apps which is already a little bit awkward. what are some good things to remember as you use the apps? >> first of all, don't go all on one app. do a lot of different apps, maybe three i'd say. keep swiping. change it up. if your profile isn't working, you need to redo your pictures, write something different. have a friend look at your profile and say what do you think i should do? sometimes we're not objective about ourselves. >> you have to market yourself on these apps. it's so uncomfortable. what if the apps aren't for you? caroline has our next question. she says she doesn't love the apps, but doesn't feel like there's any other options to meet people because of the social distancing guidelines.
