thunderstorm collapses, the possibility of locally gusty winds out of that. so they have really messy almost the worst conditions you could put out there for the firefighters. and this is our excessive heat watch, it goes from noon friday through 9:00. and more of the santa clara valley was added and north bay as well. and there it goes until technically 7:00 sunday. either way, we're talking building temperatures mid-90s to almost 110 degrees. look at that, lack of clouds this morning. that means the warming trend is getting even more robust today. we'll have those numbers coming up. and as more classes resume around the bay area, education and keeping our kids safe takes on an even bigger role in building a better bay area. distance learning starts today for many students in contra costa county and for money any u that means a change in your morning routine. amy hollyfield is live with more

on this. >> reporter: good morning. yeah, i can't help but look at this sign behind me and think about what the first day of school is supposed to look like here in these hallways filled with excitement and nerves. but of course no one will be here, everyone will be at home. orinda, san ramon valley and la fayette all starting distance learning today, all those districts sending out messages about how this will be different but they plan to get through it together. school officials say they have worked hard on preparing distance learning and that it will be an improvement from what parents and students experience in the spring. they will mostly be in front of their computers receiving real time alter it em based especially b the age. >> we'll be making sure that we have a balance so kids aren't on a computer screen all day long. and the biggest thing is that it is looking at what developmentally is appropriate for a student.

so we'll have less time on a computer with the young than we would a fifth grader. >> reporter: and they will include group learning. and they have beached up the resources available for parents. administrators say they realize this is not ideal, but that everyone will do the best they can. reporting live in la fay etd, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. and words of reassurance along with a warning from governor newsom as the state shows some progress in the battle against covid-19. yesterday the governor said more than half of tuesday's 11,645 cases were backlogged cases as a result of the recent data glitch. and that decrease in state hospitalizations is encouraging, but californians are still not doing enough. >> we're the not minimizing it that here we are making all this progress and it could be done away, you know, day two, a week

or two, people begin to let your guard down. you can't let your guard down. >> the governor also emphasized that the state is pushing the federal government to fund an extension in unemployment benefits ordered by president trump. it is also still working to get financial aid for businesses. kaiser permanente is getting involved in advance trials for a covid-19 vaccine. kaiser sites in california and oregon will test a vaccine. and one of the clinical trials is being conducted in oakland. the goal is to enroll up to 30,000 participants at more than 120 sites around the world, enrollment for that trial hasn't started yet. and abc 7 news is featuring a special series of stories and guest interviews exploring the bay area's role in possibly testing of vaccines. you can catch it on abc 7 news on our app and on our website

warmer than yesterday. so let's take a look at our three hottest microclimates. in the south bay, 67 this morning. 87 by noon. low 90s for a couple hours and then high clouds start to roll in and we still stay warm, 80 by 11:00. in fact the high clouds will blanket us tonight and keep us warmer. north bay, 85 at noon, low to mid-90s this afternoon. and hottest temperatures in the east bay, we'll try not to get to 100, but i can't promise it. definitely starting tomorrow 100s will be the rule in your future for six, seven days possibly. we'll take a look at those overnight warmer temperatures coming up in the yetn in the ac day forecast. hi, jobina. >> hi, mike. good morning, everyone. so we'll check in on a live look at the golden gate bridge. we do have a fog advisory issued by the chp.

let's show you the lack of low clouds from the bay bridge toll plaza, areas that had been getting drizzle pretty much nonexistent. we'll see a late push of some clouds, but they won't live but an hour or two today. it is already warm to hot by noon. mid to upper 60s at the coast later today while we're hitting the mid-80s to near 100 around our bay and inland. and still 70s and 80s at 8:00. chance of thunderstorms today and also tomorrow. and as we head into the weekend up in the sierra, and that is one of the reasons why there will be a heightened fire danger there. nearly three-quarters of the state are under some type of dangerous heat warning and look at the humidity bubbling up from the south, that will bring us a chance of thunderstorms in the 7 day forecast. and for the first time ever, airbnb is seeing a guest for

nights. and it will himself bring us a slight chance of thunderstorms, and that could mean lightning without rain. right now it looks like most of this will remain offshore like you are seeing right now. for us hopefully it stays offshore so we don't have to worry about a red flag warning. we have upper 80s to low 90s, 87 to even 94 in los gatos today. as far as the peninsula go, 77 in millbrae and then low to upper 80s on the peninsula. upper 60s at the coast, and low to mid-70s in downtown, south san francisco and sausalito. even north bay coast hits the mid to upper 60s today and 90s throughout the valleys. along the east way shore, richmond, berkeley and oakland in the 70s. ifsh el everybody else low to mid-80s.

and triple digits, first of possibly seven days inland. and look at these lows, a lot are 50s. and here is the accuweather 7 day forecast. the most dangerous heat will be friday, tomorrow. saturday some record highs are responsible. but still in the mid-80s around the bay. some neighborhoods in the 90s and 100s all the way through next wednesday. it looks like our warmest days at the coast will be tomorrow and saturday. that is quite a stretch of warm weather. >> definitely is. part of building a better bay area means focusing on the economy. and a new report shows that it will take a while for the bay area's tourism industry to rebound from the pandemic. projections by san francisco travel indicate that spending by people making day trips to the bay area is down 52% from this time last year. spendi spending on overnight trips is down an incredible 82%. even analysts say it will be a few

afternoon hours, 111 in fairfield, are you kidding me? and then the 100s just keep marching on as we head through the weekend. that is why it will be dangerous. >> thank you, mike. there is some turkey trouble in oakland. a long time resident of the rose garden gerald the turkey has been kind of fussy lately let's just a battle between residents and state and local officials about gerald's next move. a park was recently closed for a time because gerald was just too aggressive. the city of oakland is trying to capture him now. look at him. what is he doing? is he waiting for someone? anyway, the department of fish and wildlife has permission from an east bay property owner to relocate gerald there if they catch him. but the move to the east bay hills isn't good enough for gerald's many supporters. >> he has been part of this
