you are taking a look at santa cruz beach. temperatures soar into the triple digits in some cities. >> let's find out how long the heat will last. drew tuma. >> our dangerous heat wave rolls on. let's get a check how hot it is where you live. we are scorching. 109 in fairfield, 93 in hayward. it is 82 in the city right now. 97 in san jose. it's another hot day across the region. we still have our heat advisories and excessive heat warnings in effect for much of the bay area and again, with these hot temperatures is a high risk of heat-related illness, unfortunately as the sun goes down, by 9:00, we will still be sweat sweating with temperatures in the 70s and 80s. overnight, a red flag warning will go into effect for the threat of thunderstorms moving into the region. we will detail that new threat coming up in a few minutes.

>> all right. drew. we'll see you then. thank you. the heat is putting a serious drain on our state's power grid. abc 7 news in the north bay, joining us now live. what are we learning about the possibility of more outages? >> eric, pj pj says the rt likely a possibility tonight through wednesday and commerce should be prepared. meantime, there is relief from the heat here at the marin center in san rafael. there is snacks, water, best of all air-conditioning. after last night when the power went out, a lot of folks could use it. >> we're going to survive it. >> reporter: richard evans was craving the heat on thejoro tun someas barbecue. >> it's going to be hot. i am cooking. i need a break every once in a while, dip into the shade.r how gets, there is usually a breeze

off the water. >> reporter: dede do min guess from fairfield found shade and gave this advice. >> do your water. do your social distancing stuff. >> reporter: friday night, several hundred,0 people lost power. >> not only the heat. but the heat wave brought in cloud cover in the desert areas. we have a lot of solar plants. it reduced our solar and made our electricity supplies tighter. >> reporter: they had no water in villejo after a nearby watt pump failed. power and water was out about three hours. >> it finally came on. man, when it's 100 degrees outside, this ain't no joke. >> reporter: vernon and petition's dog cookie, temperatures soared over 100 degrees. >> it was a restless night.

i was afraid power was going off again, it was very, very hot. >> reporter: pg&e says the statewide heat wave continues, pg&e encourages customers to rotate power outages possible saturday night from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. now the california independent operator told us this afternoon, the possibility of state wide rolling blackouts is not likely tonight. we do want to tell you that this cooling center in marin center is opened from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. through tuesday. we are live in san rafael, abc 7 news. >> thank you very much. 50,000 gallons of raw sewage streamed into the alameda estuary. it caused a failure near the main bridge. people are told to avoid the

benefits intended for people affected by covid-19. sources felt the i-team, at least 11 inmates used county-owned computers to apply for benefits. some face murder charges. the scam netted about $250,000. san mateo county sheriffs deputies and officers from other agencies arrested 21 people in three counties stretching from san francisco to the san joaquin valley. they include girlfriends and friends of the suspected inmates. a man died this morning while being taken into custody by the sonoma county sheriffs office. deputies responded to a the mostic violence calm this morning. when they arrived at a home on river road, a man and woman walked out with the woman asking for help and the man holding her. two witnesses say the situation then escalated. >> and they put here in handcuffs and they began to fight. and they warned him repeatedly, don't make us tais edow he went. he goes

drivers face delays when a brush fire forced several lanes to close along a freeway in san francisco this afternoon. people saw smoke rising miles away from the scene after the fire started along southbound u.s. 101 near paul avenue. here's how it looked for drivers headed in the opposite direction. chp officers closed the three right lanes while firefighters attacked those lanes. all lanes reopened 90 minutes after the fire started. developing news now, a new round of evacuations have been ordered for the destructive lake fire north of los angeles.

that fire burned 23 square miles, about the size of a city of palo alto. it is only 20% contained. extreme heat is fuelling the fire, which has dried at least 21 buildings and is threatening 5500 others. the fremont and alameda county departments sent fire teams in to help. another fire burning in the angeles national forest was intentionally set. the person that started the fire lives in a camp where it started. he has not been arrested and is considered violent. the fire consumed 2500 acres. it is only 3% contained. in san francisco, activists gathered to protest what they say is inhumane treatment protesters in belarus. people held up signs at harry bridge plaza. they believe the election was rigged and began protesting sunday. a man was killed by police

salute to rosie the riveter today in the bay area museum that honors women for hard work during world war ii. normally all the rosies gathered in richmond. the pandemic halted this year's gathering. so the rally went online with messages and tributes from women all over the u.s. >> i want to thank you, rosie, for creating an image of strength and resilience that still inspires women today and happy 20th anniversary to the national park museum in beautiful richmond, california. >> rosie the riveter became an icon representing all the women that went to work in ship yards and factories in world war ii. i've met and interviewed those women. they were tough and dedicated to the country during that time. >> they are so remarkable. during that story, you know what, the fact that they're virtual means they can be inside in the air-conditioning. drew, we definitely need it. at least the next few days. >> yeah.

we are dedicated at staying cool over the weekend. the heat wave will still last for several more days. we're in the middle of a dangerous heat spike right now. live toper 7 along with satellite showing you high clouds to our south and east. but for many of us, it's that sunshine and very warm temperatures. right now, look at this 98 in redwood city. currently 105 in concord. half moon bay near 80. 101 in santa rosa and napa, 1 degree shy of 100 coming in at 99 degrees so we still had that heat advisory and excessive heat warning in effect for much of the bay area this evening. for the high risk of heat-related illnesses. that could be heat exhaustion or heat stroke because of not only the hot temperatures today, but it's several days in a row of this very warm weather. so some tips to beat the heat. stay hydrated with water. take frequent breaks in the shade, if you do happen to be outdoors for long periods of

time. never leave people or pets inside cars. the inside of a car heats up really quickly. apply sunscreen regularly and wear loose, light weight clothing. we also have a list of cooling centers that are opened on abc7news.com. so check that out, if you are trying to get some breaks in the ac. unfortunately tonight, little in the way of relief from the heat. it will be a warm night overnight tonight. you can see some cities like continu conconcord, livermore, we will stay in the 70s overnight. even along the bay shore line we will drop to the mid if not upper 60s over the next 12 hours. now, there is the concern of some heat-related issues. but also a heightened fire threat because of live toper 7 along with satellite, you can see there are thunderstorms developing in southern california that are moving into northern california and there is the risk of dry lightning sparking new fires.

so, we have a red flag warning that will go into effect overnight tonight. again, we talk about a red flag warning. it's usually for gusty winds. but tonight for the threat of dry lightning that could start new fires. that is something we will be tracking very closely in the overnight hours. tomorrow it's all about the warm temperatures again, if you go out and exercise, do it first thing in the morning. by 10:00 a.m., we're in the 70s and 80s, another day of our heat wave, 104 in concord 95 in san jose. 96 in santa rosa. the accuweather 7-day forecast, we'll show you we have four more days of this intense heat. by thursday, relief moves n. by friday and saturday we are closer to where we should be. take it easy out there. we still have several more days of this very warm weather hovering over the bay area. >> yes, we do. >> i am sweating just looking at that forecast. drew, thanks. all right, let's shift gears now, get to chris alvarez in the
