>> reporter: dan, we're on the edge of palo alto as we speak right now. you go see behind us, the flames inching up to about 200 to 300 people in this community. we spoke to several residents of la honda who are now packing and gearing up to evacuate. you cahahi sn s expanding through the ridge. you can see the flames raging in that community with about 60 homes. let's look at sky 7. you can see the flames aggressively expanding. they are impacting two major communities. loma mar and dearborn park. it is presumed this fire was caused by lightning sunday morning. cal fire responded to about 22 lightning fires in this region. le residents have been documenting the size of the blaze since sunday. now there is nothing else to wait for. they're evacuating. here's one of the residents. >> we are evacuating now. we had no instruction by the san mateo county sheriff's thpartment to do so.

e rangers, we have had no one come into our communiy to tell us what to do. so myself and my brother-in-law rick took it upon ourselves to go around our middleton track and make sure all residents evacuate? you can see the massive cloud of smoke covering the buttano ridge. yesterday it was closer to the ridge but now it is out of control. the smoke is covering the bottom part of the hill where according to residents, the flames are dropping into the canyon state into port olda state park. we just checked with several residents. the state park is open. many in thom ceottye,nimu verark of response by cal fire. gearing up to go into this community to help others evacuate. very concerning, this community. and something about many people i interviewed,he t any cell reception.
