5:48 am
thfire over the past couple days and they can get a little confusing. and you might be wondering why are they named like this. typically a fire is named for a nearby landmark, a road, lake or mountain. when multiple fires are burning in one area, they are called a complex, typically named on the biggest fire where it is burning or the cause. so for example this time around they are using lightning for multiple complex fires. as far as the initials that you see, they refer to the units of cal fire. so we've said lnu a number of times. the reason it is called that is after the lake napa unit. the cause of the fire is lightning. and then of course dom plekcomp because there are multiple fires. and there you see scu for santa clara, alameda and contra costa. so that's that on that, mike. >> makes sense to me.

that was confusing if you are trying to keep track of everything. we have dozens of fires across the entire state, so -- let's take a look at what is going on weather-wise. notice it is 68. we were at 80 degrees. so the hottest core of this air mass is retreating a little bit today, but the unhealthy air for some of us is not. closer you are to the coast and into san francisco and oakland, you will have that seabreeze and that will keep the air relatively cleaner than the rest o us. we're still watching the thunderstorms on monday. and here is a look at the two players on the map. oh, really? i'll get that fixed. but what you will see is the lows starting to take control and that is why we're seeing the seabreeze and the temperatures drop down to 81 in sunnyva in gilroy. on the peninsula, 75 to 82. low to mid-60s along a breezy coast today. low to mid since in

south san francisco. 78 in salusalito. low to mid-60s at the coastline. 76 to 78 in richmond and berkeley. as you head into the east bay valleys, 100s gone. 91 at san ramon to 97 in brentwood. tonight another great night for cool conditions, mid-50s to mid-60s with a seabreeze reaching a few more neighborhoods than it did this morning. so possibly there could be a little bit cleaner air in more neighborhoods tomorrow than what we're dealing with this morning. but still in the afternoon hours, we have all that smoke, spare the air through sunday, warmest day will be saturday, we try to reach 100 around the bay and we'll see temperatures taper back still above average all seven days. at the live desk, we want to get you other headlines this morning.

we are disappointing news. the u.s. labor department released the latest weekly jobs report. and it is not exactly what they expected. more than 1 ppts.1 million new unemployment claims were filed last week, higher than the forecast of 920,000. and there are 14.8 million continuing unemployment claims, that is slightly better than projections. and down 636,000 from the previous week. the big question now is how will the markets react when they open this morning. and we'll see around 6:30. we could be entering what th companies have threatened to suspend ride hailing services in california a minute past midnight tonight. service may be suspended until election day in november when voters weigh in on a proposition to keep workers as independent contractors. the state won a temporary
