but we start with chris in santa cruz county, where tens of h thousands of people have now evacuated. chris. >> good afternoon. quality there, way worse than yesterday. in fact, down right dangerous. that's why we had to get out of the area. but it was not nearly as devastating as what we found there. homes burned to the ground. i had an emotional interview with a family that lost two homes. >> we did decide to come back the next day on wednesday. and we were able to get a significant amount of the very precious things. so -- >> but for the family, the timeline between this, a home t. ash and rubble, tragically too quick. >> we had one of the cal fire people come up in trucks and via broadcasting from their truck saying get out, time is now. get out.

>> by wednesday morning, it was, we got word that our whole neighborhood was on fire. >> that's andy standing in the photos surrounded by what's left of the house he built. >> he notified us. he's got a land line so he called his wife and told her, tell the imels i just saw their houses go up. and that was the big cry. before that, it was -- we don't know. maybe, we kept hope. >> but on that morning they were still hoping, this is what was happening in their neighborhood and all over boulder creek. by morning, the it was all rubble. the bits and pieces that make a home, completely charred. this street, fallen leaf drive, still though, there were streets that proved just how unfair a fire can be. one house standing. next to another burned to the ground. >> that just goes to

night, three days in, they had to give it up. >> try to look at the bright side. if you get over on that side, that's where we got married two years ago almost to this date. >> it's all about appreciating what survived rather than what was lost for this napa county couple. for instance, their wedding altar still standing. their main house and a garage were totally destroyed. but a small guest cottage somehow survived. the flames coming just a few feet from the back deck. for four days, they tried to defepd their rural property, but finally on wednesday night, the roaring hennessey fire was too much and moving way too fast. >> we kind of defend ed the thre fires approaching, but the third one was the evening was like, it was brutal. >> we gained a family in all of our neighbors. through this event. we're all kind of spread out,

discouraging people from starting their own fire brigades. they say no life is worth any property and going into the weekend, we're hearing about that weather that's coming.moree lightning and of course, that is how this all started. larry, kristen. >> all right. that was quentin. now let's get to sandy to look at the conditions today. it's starting to get windy. >> typical sea breeze around this time of year. i want to show you the conditions on the fire lines ch starting with the north bay first. it is warm. 89 degrees near the hennessey fire. the winds are increasing out of the north to 18 miles an hour. as you'll notice around the gamble fire, 94 degrees, so it is hot. dry conditions. 29% relative humidity. san matteo county, can san that kuz county, 98 degrees. even though we are seeing the

>> thank you. san matteo county public officials are urging the people, don't visit the coast this weekend. and for that reason, beaches in half moon bay and pacifica have been closed until monday. they say it's critical that roads are cleared for firefight firefighters and emergency responders battling the blazes. highway 101 is closed, meaning there's more traffic on highway 92. >> the situation that we're in right now is very clearly putting us, that we're for this particular situation right now, we're asking people not to come. >> clog iging the roads with ca traffic can impede evacuations. first responders say they don't need or want to fight traffic so someone can enjoy a day at the beach, so please, please remember that. all right. we want to check out the weather again with sandy. those winds are picking up and not helping the fire fighting efforts. >> absolutely not.

so sad. in marin county, firefighters say they're getting some extra help to fight the lightning fire that is burning along the coast. so far, the fire has burned at least 2100 acres and that fire is zero percent contained. we're stating to get additional resources, which is good. i think everyone's well aware of how challenging it is right now across the state. the number of fires. >> the large doug fir and knob cone pine which has a high mortality rate in it, those dead trees create huge hazards for us firefighters. >> nearby residents are under an evacuation warning. officials are urging them be ready to leave their homes at a moment's notice. some relief though this afternoon for residents living in eastern contra costa county. fire officials there say the four blazes that made up the tier zone fires no longer pose a

threat to risk of home or property. the fire has charred more than 1500 acres on the northeast side of mt. diablo. those fires have been burning since sunday. nearly 50,000 people remain evacuated south of salinas due to a wild land fire there. a lightning strike there sparked a river fire. as of this morning, the blaze had burned more than 39,000 acres and is just 9% contained. a total of ten re tn 3,000 remain threatened. zblncht as the state's wildfires expand, there's a need of equipment, but to bolster weary crews battling fatigue. we look at how governor newsom is seeki m the cnry and even overseas. >> conditions of the fire line are beyond anything imaginable for most of us. the heat generated by a wildfire can exceed 1400 degrees. plus crews are dealing with a
