it's happening in san jose also, the mayor tweeted more than a dozen hotels are offering rates starting at $99 a night for fire victims and evacueees, you can book a room online. on the peninsula, a warning for beach goers, stay away. they want to leave the roads open for the first responders. we have the details. >> reporter: fires all across california continue to spread, destroying homes, forcing thousands of evacuations and adding to the worst air quality in the world. >> we are in an emergency situation. >> reporter: as conditions continue to change and the lightning fire expands, half moon bay's mayor urged visitors to avoid the area. san matteo county officials are joining this effort. >> do not go out to the coast, they will be politely asked to

>> sky 7 captured this view of both pacifica, where coastal fog met smoke from the fires this afternoon. as you can see, the clouds are getting darker as the camera sweeps from left to right wit large amounts of smoke just choking the bay area. >> wild fire smoke is pushing air quality deep in the unhealthy range. purple air shows real time readings and the worst readin r s are over scotts valley. >> we are going the to continue to see bad air quality here in the bay area like you showedment i will show you the smokey skies from the satellite. the smoke blanketing much of the state, not just the bay area. you can see some of that smoke pushing out towards the central valley and in towards nevada, even in to idaho, relative humidity has come up. that should help the firefighters. rate now, 76% in napa, currently 94% in half moon bay, thanks to

ended it. >> let's go to the coronavirus, with a look at the latest covid-19 headlines here in the bay area. more than 78,000 people have testedvirus. and 1,027 have lost their lives to covid-19. napa county is no longer on the watch list. governor newsom predicted that san francisco may come off the watch list. san francisco was renting out a discount. starti iningmomarin will allow short-term rentals and outdoor swimming pools, and wineries and other businesses can reopen in alameda county. in san francisco, activists marched to the golden gate bridge and blocked the northbound lanes while calling president trump to resign over his handling of the covid crisis. they called it a march for the dead.

there are concerns that smoke from the fires will make things worse for people fighting covid-19. sonoma county's health officers said there's a concern for asymptomatic airiers. >> if that person has a asthma a issue, if they are asymptomatic, they are more likely to spread. >> the centers for disease control, said that recent scientific publications suggest that air pollution exposure worsens symptoms and outcomes. >> a change in the way hospitals report data on the covid-19 crisises is reportedly being reversed. in july, the trump administration stripped the data collection authority from the centers for disease control, having the hospitals report directly to the department of health and human services instead. tonight the "wall street journal" is reporting that the change is only interim and that the data collection will be returned to the cdc.

the report comes as a number of hospitals across the country and here in the bay area, are questioning the methods that officials of health and human services are using to distribute the critical drug remdesivir, in an online view, a doctor complained that the system is secretive and inconsistent. >> the lack of transparency that is troubling to all of us, we don't note what magic formula is being used by the federal government to determine which state gets what. >> reporter: he said that the inconsistencies have made it more difficult to plan treatment for some covid patients. >> we were on the edge of the cliff so many last weeks, where you know, we saw patients on remdesivir and not knowing, not having enough to finish the round, and hoping a shipment would come in. >> reporter: he said that the situation has been somewhat better because they were given a

you look at the computer model in to next week, it'stu re. so-- so if any thunderstorms develop, we are in risk of dry lightning. there's potential, which is why the fire weather watch is in affect 11:00 a.m. sunday to 11:00 a.m. tuesday. gusty winds are expected and lightning could spark fires. so be careful out there. we are seeing a foggy view of san francisco, smoke and haze through the weekend. mild and fog at the coast and hot inland the next two days, humidity rising and adry lightn tuesday. remnants of the hurricane will pull up the smoke, additional smoke in addition to the high clouds that we are going start to see beginning tomorrow and the smoke layers, you will notice the purple indicating the heaviest stroke. tomorrow morning temperatures
