i better go make some phone calls. >> it is one of my favorite things. >> neighbors in several bay area counties searching for a place to stay after these already deadly and disastrous wildfires force more evacuations. this as firefighters fear another round of dangerous storm conditions the speed up the fire's spread. good morning, everybody. i'm liz. another tense day for firefighters and thousands of families in the bay area. so let's get right to the late nest this wildfire emergency this morning. the scu sta

history and the lnu complex the third. add in the czu complex and the fires burned nearly 732,000 acres combined. there are 560 wildfires burning throughout the state, many sparked by lightning. at least 965 structures destroyed, many of them homes. here's a quk look at how widespread these fire zones are. the north bay, primarily in napa and sonoma counties and spread out among lake county. the scu complex aparts santa clara and costa con thtra counts and the possible threat of new thunderstorms is a main concern right now for firefighters. good morning,l lisa. what can we expect? >> we have a red flag warning. the weather watch is elevated through 5:00.

we have dense fog at the coast creating calm winds a. layer of smoke among the fog at about 800 feet and looking still in the possibility of gusty winds and lightning threats as we go through the overnight hours tonight into monday morning. air quality right now is poor, unhealthy. perhaps having issues in livermore. you can see the red there and another area where the air quality deteriorated overnight. the north bay, better. santa rosa. the oranges toward the delta, napa, vacaville where the fire is, poor air quality. the north bay, notice where the temperatures are cooler. 81% relative humidity. the winds light and expect them vacaville reading 68. 62% relative humidity and a west wind at 16 miles per hour. looking at 69 degrees in la honda and 55% relative humidity with the light wind so certainly

the relative humidity is better, helping us along the coast with that fog, but the marine layer is compressed. notice the 60s from san ramone to concord. high and mid level clouds continue to stream up from the south and another hot day inland and a detailed look at a chance of thunderstorms when we see you next. >> thank you. pg&e said they're not playing a psps or public safety power shutoff today. the agency said in a tweet the agency doesn't meet the threshold. the state's electricity agency says they aren't participating rotating blackouts either but it doesn't hurt to prepare and always a chance of outages caused by the weather. and because these fires are evacuation orders updated through the day. find the updated-on

abc7news.com. the lnu complex is new evacuations. the fire burned more than 325,000 acres, 15% contained. abc 7 news reporter spoke to the residents who were told to leave. >> i have sprinklers on the roof, both my house and my barn. >> reporter: eliot dawes built the home. the neighbors above him on the ridge have already lost their homes. >> it's really hard, really hard to have to talk with them and console them and wish them the best and you are at any moment in the same situation. >> reporter: fire engines before on stand by for any movement from the fire. the main concern -- wind shift and more lightning. >> looking back the last significant storm in a fire system was 2008 an ento go that long until a week ago is a potential for another one to stack on top of this one is

basin. it is truly tragic. a state parks official says it appears the fire ripped through the park with high intensity. and here's a look at the numbers. 67,000 acres burned in the czu lightning complex. both san mateo and santa cruz cown tins are impacted. we have more. >> reporter: uncertainty and fear of what the flames have destroyed has this family holding on to their faith. >> i hope that the whole town, i hope they can stop it. there's a lot of friends of ours living up here 50, 70 years. mothers and sons right next to each other. >> reporter: gabe harris drove up to the access two days ago hoping to make it home and pick up a family heirloom. >> our grandma got it for us. >> reporter: the car is covered with ashes. in the back seat, the most precious memories.

driving through a wildfire at night. truly fe truly terrifying. and the third massive complex fire, the scu complex has exploded in size. a new evacuation order a couple hours ago for those south of welsh creek road and east of calavaros road. we have a list of evacuation shelters online and a list of the vautdevacuated areas. this fire is burning 339,000 acres growing on saturday and it's jumped now to become the second largest fire in california history. behind the 28 mendocino complex fire. it is 10% contained and expe evacuations. and orders. 0,000 structures threatened, 5

destroyed. governor newsom toured the fire yesterday. he met with several first responders and surveyed the damage both from the sky an enon the ground. he also stopped by the world ere chef andre and volunteers are helping feet firefighters. first responders and evacuees. president trump just approved the california request for a major disaster in ten counties statewide meaning the federal government will help state, tribal and local governments fight the wildfires. residents can qualify for housing and unemployment assistance. they can apply for low interest loans to cover uninsured property losses, crisis counseling will be offered as part of this package. cal fire officials say they're and crews arrived and troops are dayed away from being able to join them. >> we are working with the

evacuations. he shared this video of his home on friday. the camera system sent this to his phone. the looters attempted to get away but crashed through a fence and got stuck in the ditch. five people got arrested. sonoma county is bringing in a national guard drone to help monitor weather conditions. >> having that technology available for immediate detection of any new starts is is really, really important. >> local u.s. congressman huffman said it pinpoints where lightrik fighters can be not scially eip with scanning technology to qua. lisa, it is now 5:15 and at any time, you know, when you're

monitoring when these lightning strikes could start. >> yeah. well, the red flag warning through tomorrow and the best chances arriving tonight with the moisture from the south sohe ly cloy skiesnd you'll notice the higher clouds. you probably saw some of those yesterday and air quality certainly changing throughout the day with the winds shifting. the onshore flow pushed out the east bay and what happened throughout the evening hours with the lighter winds. here's a look at live doppler 7. oh pressureping e.atin us so warm is influencing the east bay here caught in between two systems, area of low pressure to the north for fog along the coast and then wrap genevieve into the equation for the moisture and then that

triggering mechanism from the north allowing for the chance into monday morning with the thunderstorms, lightning, isolated gusty winds that could make for some problems on the fire lines with these winds coming out of those thunderstorms. and they could gust anywhere from 50 to 60 miles per hour. there's a slight chance of that but notice by moisture offshore and then into the early part of the morning some of the north bay here looking at more of the moisture than the rest of the bay area so this is what we're watching and will continue to monitor this as it gets closer but it is the fog at the coast with cool numbers. 60 in belmont as we look at the east bay. milder with mid-60s and clear skies in the rest of the bay area. 57 up inotibity t'l that haze,

especially down here in the south bay and the chance of storms. beyond that, the summer pattern continues. with a closer look at the matter in these areas it's better. good around pleasanton for now. so that is some good news but getting through the o st/southw. spare the air alert today. air quality downhill in the east bay and in santa clara so be advised of that. a lot like yesterday today with numbers very warm from the 90s to near 100. 69 in san francisco so you know where that fog is hanging out. we'll get the clearing there and the 7-day forecast, notice the spare the air alert has been extended on throug wednesday with the hazy skies, the warm numbers and we should trim the numbers back a little bit into the middle of next week.

welcome back. let's get you caught up with the latest on the wildfire emergency here in the bay area. the lnu fire complex north of san francisco is the state's priority, the top priority ginn extra resources. at least 325,000 acres have burned and it is 15% contained. the fire complex in santa clara is third largest in state history. that is burning nearly 340,000 acres, 10% contained and the czu lightning complex burned 67,000 acres. we are expecting a live report from officials at 6:00 t bring . victims of the wildfires include animals and beloved pets. marissa is a nurse that lost 5 of 6 horses this week, 5 of the

6 horses when the lnu lightning complex tore through the property outside of vacaville. her one horse that survived, ava, is being treated for severe burns at uc davis after her friend's brother-in-law was able to save her. here's a conversation i had with marissa this weekend about her heartbreaking situation. >> thank you so much for joining us to share your story. i want to say i'm for you loss. how are you doing and how is ava? >> i guess i'm doing okay. ava's doing phenomenal. i just actually got a call from uc davis ten minutes ago or so. they're taking her on walks to get out of the stall now and get a little bit more motion and will help her edema. >> that is good news. walk us through the night that you were evacuated. you said it came so fast, there wasn't time for a warning.

>> yeah. so they had called for the warning, like a warning evacuation for the canyon before us so we got there and we got most of the horses off the property and then we were going to bring my herd of six was up at the top but as soon as we got the other horses loaded up the cops came through and were saying it's coming up over the crest of the hill right now and we had to get out so me and my boyfriend -- we hooked my trailer up and we ran up to the top and i was trying to get the -- everyone but they're all freaked out because the fire's coming and -- we saw the glow start to come up over the ridge and it was so dark and smoky and i was calling them to come to me

and right -- he called to him and i was able to get ava and firefly haltered and trying to load them into my old horse trailer but like as i got them haltered and walking up the gate the fire tornado was coming down over the mountain and i -- they wouldn't load because they're freaking out. >> and they ran into a house that then caught fire? >> they ran to the second house on the property and that's the house that burned down and ava -- the brother-in-law rob was able to get back to the house because he didn't leave the canyon completely. he bunked down in an empty field until he could get back to the house. the house that burned down is where they found a few of my horses, the only one that actually made it was ava and

she -- he -- because of rob being there still he was able to send us a picture and we were able to when it was safe enough to get back we were able to get her out with a vet and she had to walk down just a huge hill, just burned to a crisp and she was breathing really hard and we had to make the call to put her down on the spot. but she is a fighter and she proved that she wanted to keep living so we -- animal control got her loaded up and brought her to uc davis and i met them outside with her at uc davis and i didn't think it was going to be okay. she was breathing so hard and fast but they got her stabilize really quickly and they've been up dating me on everything and i have been able to go in and still see her. >> she is in the best of hands. we are lucky to have uc davis

right here. tell us about your horses. i can't even imagine. i assume it's like losing a huge part of your family. >> yeah. i feel like a lot of my life and identity is just been gone. like everything i do i do for the horses and like i work a lot of overtime and been building up the herd i have for specific reasons and my main horse, my grandma bought him for me. i had firefly. a rare danish breed and i had brought her this year and she was about 3 months pregnant. the natural group of breeders have been amazing reaching out to me. >> how can people help? >> well, it's -- we have got some fund-raisers going for

myself and also kelsey james to try to recoup some of what we have lost and try to rebuild and help with the care of our animals going forward. and then also, of course, donating to uc davis because they have just been absolutely phenomenal. >> thank you so much for sharing your story. i can't even imagine and i'm thinking of you and ava and rooting for ava. i'm glad to hear she's doing well. >> thank you. >> thank you. we also want to let you know that a bay area landmark is providing refuge for displaced livestock. the cal palace in daly city is fully revamped. exhibit halls are living spaces for various types of animals and hosted the grand national rodeo for decades and it does have the facilities for housing cattle

emergency, so many wondering what they'll return to across the state more than 13,000 firefighters on the front lines. hundreds of fires, more than 100,000 californians forced to flee their homes and this morning a major worry, new possible thunderstorms today. the same thing that set off these historic blazes in the first place last weekend. good morning, everyone. it's sunday, august 23rd. i'm liz kreutz. a red flag warning for the bay area until 5:00 p.m. monday for those chances of lightning. lisa argen is tracking it all for us. >> hi, liz. not seeing moisture with these storms if we see any at all. it is dry lightning and the gusty outflow boundaries from thunderstorms so here's the red flag warning until 5:00 tomorrow night and we have highlighted the area because there's certainly the chance and with the fires already burning this

would be quite a bad situation. let's take a look at the smoke forecast and notice not doing so bad right now. we are right in the lighter shade but through the afternoon definitely getting worse in the south bay. here we are into monday morning, that dark shade of pink looks like it moves up through the east bay and the north bay as the flow moves out of the west/southwest. north bay conditions with temperatures in the 60s and 70s, light winds. relative humidity up to 81%. over towards vacaville looking at 66 degrees. 62% relative humidity and cool numbers around la honda at 59 and the relative humidity at 75% so certainly some good news even though that deck of low clouds is sittingnd visibility about zero. half moon bay. 50s at san francisco. low 60s in fremont. 64 i start.

high and mid level clouds filtering through the bay area. throughout the day the haze and the poor air quality in the east and south bay for most and the north bay detieriorating due to the wind flow and then hot in the mid-90s inland and cool at the coast. talking in detail about the week ahead which includes more summer-like temperatures. liz? >> thank you. this morning the deadly lnu lightning complex stretches firefighters thin giving the public one command -- get out if you're under orders. some lifted yesterday, others were newly sent out including in sonoma we have more. >> leave the area. >> reporter: residents of forestville like carol got the word saturday afternoon, time to go. the fire was on the move.

the area with fires we will have fires to start. >> reporter: and more lightning isn't good news for ann who's choosing to stay at her home. >> don't need it but you can't control mother nature. >> reporter: cal fire says firefighters are getting more resources to fight this fire in the air and on the ground and sonoma county officials asking folks in the area to conserve water this weekend to make sure there's enough water available for fire fighting efforts. cornell barnard, abc 7 news. cal fire officials will be updating uhe top of the hour on the difficult day ahead. of course, we'll bring it to you live here when it airs. abc 7 news reporter stephanie has a look at the destruction so far. >> reporter: it's not an easy drive. winding through big basin way in the middle of boulder creek.

we found flames lining the roads, burnt down homes and smoke so thick it burns your eyes. finding it tougher to see, we relied on what we heard. walking through the rubble to meet people like mark hendricks. >> we saved a lodge and 20 cabins below. now we're working on another lodge here and another 13 cabins and a bunch of houses. one house burned down this morning. >> reporter: he is trying to save the sequoia retreat center. >> we were on our own for a while. couldn't get cal fire up here and ben loman is coming givingp hope like robert hilton who lives down the road. >> i told him, i'm going down with the ship. i'm staying. and they actually said i don't know what i would do in your situation. >> reporter: a tough question to
