get the upper hand as a new threat emerges to a grove of historic redwood trees. cornell bernard is live in burnville with the latest there. cornell? >> gurnville still under a mandatory evacuation order. overnight, fire made its way down the mountain, into historic armstrong woods about three miles from where we are. cal fire crews are staging, they're trying to protect the grow from damage. >> a redwood tree burns inside historic armstrong woods state park. it's something ranger mike layer has feared. >> even the firefighters come in here, they know how important it is to them. >> they've made their way to the floor of the russian river valley in gurnville. firefighters are keeping an eye watching its progress. >> right now, we're about two miles inside of armstrong woods,

by the fire here. you see the flames behind us, while firefighters are working on is preventing for this fire to expand over this ridge. they don't have the resources to contain. what they do have is a strategy. i want to point to a video we showed earlier. this is a cloud of smoke that many firefighters are walking into. the scu lightning complex fire started with multiple small fires, now it's emerged into two major fires. 347,000 acres have been consumed by this blaze. firefighters are working around the clock tree ating a boundary to prevent the fire to expand. many coming from out of state. we met a crew that arrived today at 2:00 a.m. from texas.

is approximately 1200 miles long. the smoke isn't just impacting california. aerosols in the air, particles in the atmosphere are believed to be from wildfires. they can be seen as far east as minnesota. you can see as we look at the east bay hills, not great outside. east bay is hit particularly hard right now. drew tuma is tracking that part of the story. >> some areas are seeing an improvement in their air quality. that wind could push more smoke into other areas. you take a look at that sea breeze at 20 miles an hour in the city. from the city to san rafael, we have moderate air quality. smoke is continuing to be pushed inland. you can see those levels are in red, unhealthy air quality.

sky 7 live over the woodward fi fire. nearly 2500 acres have burned, the fire is only 5% contained. only a 2500 acre area, you can see the spots where this fire continues to cause problems. we'll keep you updated on the wood fire burning in marin county. in santa cruz county, evacuation sites are being overwhelmed for fire victims. monetary donations are still best. chris wynn has the story.

they were the first troop to perform the holiday classic back in 1944. firefighter with engine 17 took a moment in the middle of the devastation. >> now, your accuweather forecast with sandhya patel. >> hi, everyone, let's take a look at a live picture right now, the air quality near you may be fluctuating as the winds are changing direction. as you take a look here, looking toward mt. diablo, really hard to see the top of mt. diablo as we look at the smoke layers. the smoke and fog dropping the visibility down to four miles in livermore, five miles in fairfield. spare the air alert wednesday. but by thursday, it looks like perhaps a slight improvement, moderate air quality hoping for that. the fires that are burning in our area, contributing to the bad air quality currently.

the mid-90s. it's a soft end view from our golden gate bridge camera. 80 in santa rosa, currently upper 80s for livermore. mt. tamm cam offers signs of hope. fog expands overniht with patchy morning drizzle. we're looking at a seasonal summer weather pattern this week. not expecting any thunderstorms or heavy rain. i should say thunderstorms in the forecast. hour by hour forecast, the fog is there, it pushes in over the bay, 5:00 a.m. tomorrow, can't rule out some drizzle. 8:00 a.m., is going to be pretty gray across the region. temperatures in the morning, foggy, hazy conditions, mid-50s to the mid-60s unless you're out toward antiocantioch. i think it's going to be cooler than today. 83 santa rosa.

it's become a fire evacuation shelter for larger farm animals. 33 cows arrived there just yesterday. the arena is housing 150 animals including goats, peacocks and horses. >> we made this as orderly as possible, horses feel what we're feeling, we tried not to panic. >> donkey and a horse that were best friends, relocated to the fire zone to the cow palace, because they're best friends they're beak sheltered together. that will help ease some of the tension and anxiety they may be experiencing. >> the coyote point shelter is carrying for pets and wildlife affected in san mateo county. the humane society is asking for donations for health care for all of the animals. great work in this time of crisis. world news tonight with david muir is next. as always, we appreciate your time. as always, i'm dan ashley.
