on vacation. >> i have to be honest, i was nervous that wouldn't be your answer, because there have been some amazing guest hosts this summer. so i wanted to start with something everyone loves, something completely undeniable. cute, internet babies. i have no idea who these new born twins are, but i love them from the bottom of my heart. i love that face. it's like me, when i walk by anyone who's not wearing a mask. that clip is actually perfect, there is scientific proof that babies develop the ability to give side eye at two months old. speaking of side eye, have you been following what's going on with the u.s. postal service? it is almost unbelievable. i am going to get into it with my amazing guest, stacey abrams,

but i know you want to help the postal service now but don't know how. so here's the thing. in moments of crisis, people come to me, because they think i am really olivia pope. i am not a crisis manager, but i did do a little research on three simple things you can do today to support the postal service. so, here we go. number one. buy a lot of stamps. i bought so many stamps this weekend i think i could send a jet ski to the ukraine. i don't know why i would do that, but i could. number two, call your representatives in the house and the senate at the number on your screen. say how important it is for them to support the postal service, during this critical time. take a screen shot, right now, before we change the chiron. okay. number three, tune into the dnc, the democratic national convention. this week to learn about leaders who believe everyone should be able to vote. imagine, even people who vote by

mail. speak of voting, today is the anniversary of the 19th amendment which gave women the right to vote.men readdiblack peleas did young ppl so i chatted with some kids to see what they know about our electoral process. this is what they had to say. ♪ do you know what voting is? >> yeah, but i don't know how to do it. >> do you, like go out into the street and just scream it, like this is who i want to be president? and then that counts as voting? >> maybe you go inside the white house and say it? >> oh, like every person goes inside the white house?

>> yes. >> do you think you're old enough to vote? >> actually, i think i voted before. i don't know. i'll have to tell my mom. >> are you sure? >> yes. >> do you think that people who are missing their front teeth >> yes. i lost my front teeth, and i'm voting right now. >> so how much does it cost to vote? >> $50. >> like $100? or $200? >> $2,000? >> $2,000 a vote? >> to vote. >> got it. do you know what a president is? >> it's like somebody that, like, owns the state. >> sounds a little bit authoritarian. >> uh-huh. they own the state. >> do you know who our current president is?

signed up and ready to work. >> voter suppression is really your mission. it's your passion to fight that. can you explain what's been going on with the post office and mail-in voting leading up to november? >> sure. so let's understand that voter suppression is any time you prevent or discourage someone from voting. and because we know there's a wave coming, unfortutely, donald trump and his cronies have decided to steal the vote by scaring us out of mail-in voting. they know this is one of the best ways to vote in a pandemic. so what we've watched in the last few weeks is an attempt by louis dejoy of the postal service to slow down the mail, removed postal boxes, removed mailboxes and doing every nefarious thing you can imagine. what they have decided, though, is to walk that back. they are going to make certain that voting does work in america by mail. but here's the thing. we know it's not over. they're going to try again. and the most important thing is

to not panic. we can vote by mail, we can vote early in person, we have vote on election day, but don't let them steal your success by scaring you out of using your tools. >> so the biggest thing we can do to fight voter suppression is vote. >> absolutely. and, no matter which state you live in, you have about three options. there are only about ten states that limit you. almost every state you can vote by mail, in person early, and you can vote on election day. if you go to vote.org, they can tell you what your options are, no matter which state you live in. >> so dejoy testifies before the senate on friday. ifere gontvi him, if you were questioning him, what would your first question be? >> if you believe in our democracy, then your responsibility is to support it, not to undermine it. what he has done since he took office is undermine access. and worst, he's undermined confidence. and, as i said, it's not just

preventing you from voting but discouraging you from voting. and the panic that has ensued, because people believing that the post office, which has been around as long as the republic, can no longer be trusted is a terrible thing to do to americans. i hope he has learned his lesson and will do better. >> what should we do to make sure every vote is counted. >> first, we have to overwhelm them with our presence. that means make a plan. don't think that just the latest attempt to scare us out of voting that they're going to abandon their efforts. make a plan to vote. that's why i talk about all three ways that you can vote in almost every state. number two, show up in force, and don't show up alone. whether that's virtual, using your social media, make sure people you know, people you like, people you kind of, eh, no matter who they are, make sure they check their registration, make a plan themselves and vote

as well. when we overwhelm with our presence, we get the democracy we deserve. >> this is a question i love from le shawn on twitter. considering the direct impact local policies have on our lives, how can we motivate americans to spend as much as time thinking about our local politics as we do our national politics. not just focussing on the top of the ticket. how do we get people to focus on what's happening in their own neighbods anit will be affected in the next election. >> i start by asking people what are you concerned about? typically, they're not going to give you a national issue. connect the dots for them. make sure they understand, if you are concerned about people in your community being arrested at unfair rates, talk about your mayor. if you're concerned about how your kids are being educated, that means you need to vote in the school board. if your trash doesn't get picked up enough, that's a county commission issue sometimes. and the most important thing is, make sure you participate in the

2020 census. that's how they draw the lines for everything that happens from school board all the way to the presidency. >> how does the census play into all this? they're stopping the census early, right? >> right now they plan to stop it early. and if they do, that means they're going to erase millions of people from the story of america. namely communities of color and the poor. it is dangerous. it is going to cost the communities money but steal their political power. instead of counting them they're going to guess. it's called imputation. it is a terrible thing to do when you have cut short the actual count. it's going to not only hurt your communities now. imagine a decade of not having any of the resources you need while those communities that have more than enough get even more of what you deserve. we need to make certain we fill out the census for economic power and political power. >> stacey, i love you so much. in these times, people can feel so helpless and paralyzed with
