>> reporter: this is night three of oakland protesters demanding justice for jacob blake, an african-american man who was shot seven times in the back by wisconsin police officer, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down and generating nationwide protests. oakland police reporting one of their officers was injured as the crowd threw rocks and bottles and pointed lasers to their officers. >> changes in policy need to be made with the police brutality against the african-american males in this community. so definitely we're supportive of peaceful protesting. >> reporter: many are afraid of history repeating itself where smashed windows and fires were left behind. shonda scott, with the oakland african-american chamber of commerce says small business owners are the ones picking up the broken glass and the bill. >> this is serious business. and don't come here vandalizing our city. >> reporter: this is a prime example of these attacks. they've been vandalized three times since july. >> we still have to pay our

one person died during a shooting. it appears about 600 cars took part in tonight's caravan. protesters have rallied in downtown portland for the past three months since the may killing of george dploid by a police officer in minneapolis. president trump m in tiburon, abc 7 was at reed elementary school this afternoon where rows upon rows of people calmled for change. recently, a black clothing store owner in tiburon said he felt he was being profiled by police while filling inventory at his store at 1:00 in the morning. this helped spark today's event which drew people of all ages and races. a show of activism offered more than just a mental change. they also got a work out. >> we're starting off with

peaceful. hundreds marched from city hall through downtown toward san pedro square. some even danced in the streets. police say one person was arrested for vandalism that occurred at city hall. and in walnut creek, about 100 people joined a black lives matter march today. at one point, they knelt or sat, blocking traffic at south main street and newell avenue. a city councilman tweeted the marchers honored george floyd with a moment of silence that lasted eight minutes and 46 seconds, the amount of time an officer knelt on his neck resulting in his death. firefighters are making considerable progress in sonoma and lake counties. while containment is now up to about 55%, some of the people who had to evacuate are returning home this weekend. cornell bernard tells us in some

cases that means coming back to rubble. >> reporter: jim is making a difficult journey to where his home once stood. jim knew his property and rv had been destroyed by the lnu complex fire, but seeing the damage up close was painful. >> similar to when my wife died. it's a grief and shock to the system. >> reporter: the fire was approaching fast, and there was little time. >> i do not see 30 minutes more that i could have gotten out of this place. >> reporter: down the road, his neighbor's house in ruins. >> well, it's hard for me not to choke up. particularly, somebody you know. and i look at this. if she hadn't got out she wouldn't have made it. >> reporter: this video was taken by the parish family as they escaped the flames on pleasant valley road. luckily, their home was spared. >> we're so thankful that our house made it. and we know a lot of other people's homes who didn't make it, so that's, you know, a lot

to the south where firefighters are making headway on the czu complex. it has burned more than 84,000 acres and containment is at 33%. it has been destructive, wiping out scores of homes. we went to bonnie doon and found neighbors helping neighbors. >> reporter: this home is one of the few spared in the community of bonnie doon. now neighbors are coming together to survive. >> the fire went around me. it took out everybody across the stre street and around aroume. >> reporter: he offers his home to those in need. >> wrater and companionship. >> reporter: his house is a refuge that runs by a generator that fire didn't destroy. >> reporter: one neighbor says being at his house allows him to escape the devastation. >> being able to get together at a place that resembles normalcy

the sanctuary in monterey. a wildfire burned down the sanctuary. nine condors and four chicks remain missing. firefighters say the increased containment of one of the largest fires in history, the scu complex has burned more than 376,000 acres. that adds up to 588 square miles across seven counties, including parts of alameda, contra costa and santa clara counties, it's the second largest in state history containment now stands at 45%, up from 40% earlier today. crews say today's winds made it easier to fight the flames. we have an extensive page on our website with the resources you need to stay safe in a wildfire. you can find it at abc 7 news.com. california's 58 counties have new rules on what can open

the average number for the past couple of weeks. the seven-day positivity rate at 5.5%. this, one of the key figures going forward, as california reopens its economy. it is a good reflection of community transmission. monday officially ushers in new guidelines for california's reopening. there will now be four color-coded tiers, purple, red, original and yellow, purple means wide pred transition while yellow is minimal. most will start out purple, but there are business allowed to open. hair salons and mails will lls b able to open with indoor operations. napa county, placed on tier two means gyms, salons and churches can open with

restrictions. breweries must remain closed unless they serve meals. napa is still working through which rules apply. starting this tuesday, stanford will be closing its campus to most of the public. the campus is being divided into zones to help limit the spread of coronavirus. each zone has certain requirements to enter, demanding depending on the staff or student member's role. these include the arboretum and stanford golf course. only a third of stanford students will be on campus this semester. 21 private schools in contra costa county have applied for waivers to bring elementary-aged students back to the classroom. it is designated as a purple county, which means it has widespread covid transmission and must keep schools online. schools are allowed to apply for waivers, although only two have

a beloved animal sanctuary in vacaville was among the properties v properties destroyed by fires in the lnu complex. the people who own that ranch are celebrating survival. laura anthony has the story from solano county. >> reporter: when you've lost so much, lucky is a relative term. >> somebody put a heart on the brick. >> reporter: it's been a week since the lnu compression destroyed the beloved animal sanctuary the lucky ones ranch in vacaville. it was home to a 911 dispatcher and her police officer husband. he was away at work when she called to tell him the flames were getting way too close. >> i said you need to come home, code three, code three now. >> reporter: with the help of a local animal rescue group, the couple got almost all of their animals out, including

three-legged sheep annie. today annie and more than 100 of her companions are safe and well. on a fairfield property, a local teacher offered as a temporary home. >> just to know that we rescued all the animals out of there and got everyone safely out of there with the exception of a cat that is still missing, i believe is a survivor, and we'll find her. is amazing. >> reporter: here, the couple can tend to their menagerie of animals. many disabled or blind. each with its own story, once discarded by someone else, only to be welcomed into this family. >> got five over there. > reporter: the group includes todd, who was missing for four days until he was discovered wandering alone. >> now a week later with nearly all their animals accounted for, they are really starting to know
