hello. thank you for joining us. i'm eric thomas. >> the lnu line complex burning in five north bay counties is now 56% contained. flames have burned more than 375,000 acres and today cal fire reduced evacuation orders to evacuation warnings. in parts of napa and sonoma counties. the series of lightning sparked fires is blamed for five deaths and destroying more than 1,200 buildings before they broke out nearly two weeks ago. now, the walbridge fire in sonoma county was one fire in that complex. survivors are trying to recover and regroup this weekend. local assistance centers are opening up to help and as many orders are lifted, others are returning home. live in guerneville with more on this story, hi, cornell. >> reporter: hi, what a difference this time last week, downtown guerneville was totally

empty. now people are back. th danger has passed. and folks who were impacted by the fire are getting a helping hand. >> our house survived, and that's just, it was a miracle. >> reporter: pamela dime this new local assistance center at healdsburg high school looking for some help. >> i applied for fema assistance. housing props and costumes from her long time career as a still walker. >> all my costumes from 1987 are gone. so yeah. >> reporter: this center, a one-stop shop for observy assistance. >> we still have ongoing evacuation orders. folks haven't even been able to find out if their homes necessarily intact. >> there's hugo. next to hugo is molly. >> reporter: she and her two cats have not been allowed to return home.

she's still unclear if the walbridge fire damaged her home. >> not knowing where i'm going and what i'm doing. very confusing. >> reporter: this guerneville, this assistance central is set up for residents at the bank of manager. this town is coming back to life now that most evacuation orders have been lifted and fire danger has passed. >> people are excited. >> reporter: restaurants and shops are reopening and customers are back. >> we kinds of heard there were some choesh urs going on. we was not sure. we saw cars coming back so we figured, okay, let's take a drive. >> reporter: the guerneville residents are resilient and thankful to those who protected the community. >> we're very grateful. all the first responders. it's awesome. they saved our town, they saved this place. >> reporter: a lot of folks happy to be back. the local assistance centers will be open through next friday, 10:00 a.m. through 7:00

p.m. cornell bernard. >> thank you very much. let's check the progress being made against two other groups of fires. right now the czu lightning complex has burned more than 84,000 acres in the santa cruz mountains. evacuation orders remain in place for san mateo and santa cruz counties. line fires sparked it two weeks ago. across five counties, the scu lightning complex has charred more than 377,000 acres. cal fire says it is 50% t is 50 contain contained. >> reporter: the bay area air quality is still a bit poor. right now, the skies are looking pretty gray. drew tuma joins us now with the latest spare the air alert. we need some good news here. >> yeah. hopefully, we're finding now that our spare the air days had been extended at least through

faced off today in a protest at the golden gate bridge. there was a president trump floatila and demonstration. anti-trump demonstrators also showed up. there was a fiery debate. some trump supporters say they were attacked by counter protesters. we saw officers detain a few people. rally organizers blame liberals. >> we're here to say we do not give you permission to cause damage and destruction. we're taking our country back from the radical left. >> i'm here because trump is dangerous. we have to stand up and say that. >> reporter: walk away said it encouraged all groups to attend the rally and engage in a respectful discussion about america's challenges. oakland police say six people were arrested saturday after the third night of protests in response to the police shooting. about 100 marchers took to the streets in oakland's grand lake neighborhood last night.

police say some pelted officers with rocks and bottles and pointed lasers at them. one officer was injured. oakland business owners who have been targeted by vandals say they understand the purpose of the protest but say the vandalism hurts them. >> changes and policy need to be made with african-american males in this country. we support peaceful protesting. >> an oakland wellness center said they'v been hit three times by vandals since july. president trump will meet with law enforcement. it is not clear if he will meet with jacob blake or his family. this morning president liked a twitter thread that said kyle rittenhouse is a good example. he is the teenager accused of killing two protesters and wounding another during the protest last week. this morning the acting head of

california is poised to pass a troubling milestone. it is the first state to reach 700,000. there are more than 699,909 cases. thats the fifth highest in the world just behind the country of russia. there are more than 84,000 cases in the bay area. the u.s. has the most confirmed country of any nation in the world with more than 5.9

million, according to johns hopkins data. covid-19 has led to the postponement of the oakland a's game in houston. in a statement, the a's say an unnamed member of the organization tested positive for covid-19. the team says they have conducted testing and contact tracing and will self-isolate now in houston. covid-19 has also led to game postponements for the st. louis cardinals, the miami marlins as well as the new york mets and cincinnati reds. you'll hear more from the a's' gm coming up in sports. a major shift coming tomorrow in california's road to reopening. it will affect one of the big things we're focused on as we try to build a better bay area amid the pandemic. the economy. governor newsom's new guidelines go into effect on monday based on case numbers and test positivity rate. counties will be four color code tiers. most of the bay area will start off purple. that's the most stringent tier. it still allows for hair salons

and malls to open with limited operations. san francisco is taking a slower approach. salon there's only be able to open outdoors. it will be a mad dash at the state capitol tomorrow to pass an eviction moratorium bill. governor newsom announced on it friday after weeks of negotiation, it does not stop all evictions but it would protect many rentalers. tomorrow marks the ends of the legislative session. so the bill needs to go through many steps before being enacted, passing a final vote in the assembly and getting the governor's signature. coming up, more tributes pouring in for actor chadwick bozeman. coming up in sports, ahead of the trade deadline, the giants go for a series win in arizona. plus, a's/'stros

march. fans across the world are warning boseman. the tweet announcing his death is now the most liked tweet of all time. more than 7 million people have liked it. >> chadwick was a visionary, a true hero, someone who is the definition of a role model. >> this guy gave the world a super hero that anybody could admire, but especially people of color. >> it was really impactful. it kind of hurt. the first black super hero. >> this role not only inspired an entire generation of movie viewers, it gave us an ability to dream. >> boseman was 43 years old. he died after a years long battle with colon cancer. a lengthy emotional statement on the passing of chadwick boseman. he said he wasn't privy to the details of boseman's illness because boseman deeply valued his privacy.

another portion of the statement says, he lived a beautiful life and he made great art. day after day, year after year. that was who he was. he was an he saidics fireworks dismay. i will tell stories about being there for some of the brilliant sparks to the end of my days. what an incredible mark he has left for us. >> he adds that he spent the last year writing for boseman. no word on the future of. movie now. a special tribute is airing right here on abc7 tonight. you can watch black panther commercial-free. it will be followed by a special, chadwick boseman, tribute to a king. disney is the parent company of abc7. in accuweather, we are still tracking air quality issues over the next couple days. we're finding smoke is lingering in our atmosphere. the spare the air days have been extended.

hive doppler 7, i know what satellite. we've got fog along the coastline. and we're finding hazy sunshine for much of the bay area, away from the coast. i want to show you the source of a lot of the smoke for the second half of the weekend. you look at the satellite imagery. you can see smoke coming from fires, not only in mends scecino county but in butte. it is why we're seeing still smoke in our atmosphere, even though firefighters are upping the containment on a lot of area fires. so the current particulate matter right now, the problem spot is napa right now, closest to where the smoke is coming from northern california. we're finding unhealthy air quality for sensitive groups, san rafael, oakland, pleasanton, san francisco, we've had a

pretty fresh sea breeze. we have air quality over the city currently. now, air quality on average over the next two days will be poor. we talk about how it can fluctuate pretty radically from hour to hour, from moderate to poor to good. we are expecting poor air quality monday and tuesday thanks to smoke still coming from fires. right now, numbers. cool in the city. 69. a little cool but not excessively hot. 73 in san jose. overnight, the biggest difference we'll find compared to last night, that our marine layer is getting com pressed. we do speck fog but not as much around the inland and bay shoreline. first thing tomorrow morning, the marine layer is shallow, we're finding some fog along the coast. but that's about it for the marine layer tomorrow morning. with limited thought, that allows to us warm a little

faster. that means tomorrow afternoon we'll finds temperatures a little warmer than today. so highs tomorrow about, 1 or 2 or 3 degrees warmer than today. 60s and 70s around the bay shoreline. and then into the low 90s. hazy sunshine the next couple days with a spare the air her. we'll see a dip in temperatures but all indications for the holiday weekends coming up, it turns warm to hot with september heat coming next sunday. a's and astros did not play friday. today's game postponed after the a's announced a member of their traveling party tested positive for covid-19. the a's were informed last night that someone had tested positive. the gm said he wouldn't comment on whether it was a player or staff member. he did add the team would stay in houston overnight and they're hoping to get more test results back by tomorrow morning. the next scheduled game is tuesday night in seattle.
