there's no shows, the tony awards were postponed. which is a shame because that's where most gay high-schoolers get their yearbook quotes. some kids quote gandhi or abraham lincoln. i quoted alice ripley's winning speech for best actress in next to normal! "musical theatre is a fine art!" and to all you parents of theater kids out there, if you're going on a road trip this summer and they want to blast the original cast recording of "spring awakening" repeatedly, please just let them have it. i even wrote my college admissions essay about spring awakening, so maybe it'll encourage them to pursue higher education! also i dropped out after 7 weeks. so actually never mind. i love doing film and tv, but i so painfully miss live theater, you know? there's nothing like it. there's no substitute for the feeling of pouring your heart out to the point of exhaustion while an eighty year-old woman opens a werther's original for 12 minutes. or singing a softly heartbreaking ballad only to be interrupted by a ringtone version of "who let the dogs out?" as a man receives a call. that said, senator romney, it

was an honor to have you at the show! broadway will be back, eventually. theatre, especially musical theatre, is a vital american art form. it'll be weird to go to a theater again at first. but i'm actually excited for all the new shows that will come out of this challenging time. we'll have all kinds of new musicals. like, "don't kiss me, kate." "no company!" "how to succeed in business without having to go to your office." and patti lupone as, "covita!" "don't cry for me argentina, your tears are contagious droplets." oh, this is an alarming fact i just learned. you know who might pose one of the greatest dangers during this pandemic? friggin' me. they say that singers, can be superspreaders of the virus. because when you sing, you are breathing so deeply and in some cases you even expel saliva or mucus. and by "you" i mean "me." i've been known to shower audiences with both love and liquid.

>> i'm good, how are you? you? ? >> i'm doing good. you look gorgeous as always. your emmy nomination is incredibly well-deserved. and i just got to know, how did you find out? what was the sich? >> i got a call from sam, our creator. and it was funny, because i don't know about anybody else, but in quarantine, my sleep pattern has been like really off. i wake up at like, like 2:00ish. it's bad. he knows i don't wake up until late. so he doesn't even try to call me until late. and he called me like 8:45 a.m., and i'm like, [ bleep ], something bad must have happened or maybe he's telling me something about "euphoria" or something stressful or whatever. so i answer the call, and he's like, "yo, z, you got nominated." i'm like, what?

he's like, "you got nominated. i was, like, what? go call your mama." >> my mom was already crying, she already knew. i was overcome with all the emotion. so i genuinely was like, i'm just going to go back to sleep for a while and handle this when i get up. i can't, it was a lot. >> you went back to bed? >> yeah. >> i feel like i would be too jazzed. >> i was too nervous and excited to, like, take it all in, i'm just going to shut down and go to sleep for a little bit. and hopefully, this will still be a real thing when i wake up. >> i'm with you on the sleeping late. i'm used to the evan hanson lifestyle of sleeping from 2:00 to 2:00 and starting in the afternoon. >> right. yeah. >> how are you feeling about the whole virtual emmies of it all? i know it's not what we would usually get.

we all want to see you in your gorgeous look, so we're going to see from you home, i would imagine. >> i hope, i don't want, i want to dress up. i do want to dress up. i still want to have the experience. it will probably just be my family over here, but i definitely want to pull a look and maybe just walk my living room carpet. but, you know, it's different, for sure. but i'm grateful either way, so. >> amazing. i personally look forward to seeing your living room look very much. >> thank you, thank you. >> as a huge fan of "euphoria", i have to ask, what's up with season two, i know a lot of things have been pushed due safety. wondering how you're feeling about that, and what the plans might be. >> obviously, we headed into season two, and we had done, you know, table reads, and wardrobe fittings and all kinds of things, and then obviously everything happened and we got

shut down, literally about two days before we were about to start our first day of shooting. so, you know, that was a bummer, but we're kind of trying to figure out, you know, how to, you know, eventually be able to create a season two that we're all really proud of and get all the best out of it that we want, but also still being very safe. so we might end up doing like the little bridge episode. i don't really know how to describe it but maybe like an episode that will kind of, we can do with a limited amount of people in a safer environment. >> sure. >> that can kind of, i don't know, give people something. we all miss "euphoria", as the people who created it, too. and give everyone a little something so that, you know, we have something to live on until we are able to go into a season two. but i am very excited, whenever it does happen, it will happen,

and then just, you know, just waitin' like the rest of us, you know. >> of course, you have a really beautiful attitude about it, and i, for one, am really excited to hear about that bridge episode to whet our appetites, because i binged it way too early. you've also made a film with sam during this quarantine, like a little mini film. which is so incredible. i'm wondering how that went down and how you guys kept safe. >> yeah, there was a lot of protocols, a lot of things i think we did just as much as possible to make sure it was safe, and we shot it in, we all quarantined together, obviously, we got tested and quarantined together. there was a lot of safety measures that were taken, consulting doctors and things like that. and, you know, it was a very, very small crew of people that most of them worked on "euphoria" as well. and it was just like, it was

fun, because it was, like, my, i was my hair, i was my makeup, i was my wardrobe. i was, brought my clothes, so it was fun in that way of just trying to make it work with a very small amount of people, but we all quarantined together and stayed in our bubble so we really weren't in the outside world at all. we weren't really allowed to leave at all, to keep it safe. >> that's incredible. >> yeah, but it was a beautiful experience and, you know, we'll see what happens. >> yeah, sounds like down the line, if we're talking nominations for makeup and hair and costumes and set dec is all for you, so i'm down. >> no, it was fun. a lot to think about in a good way, so. >> beautiful. well, i'm getting the sad message that very to wrap up, but i would love to talk to you forever and ever. thank you so much for doing this with me, zendaya. for everybody out there, euphoria is available on hbo and to stream on hbo max.
