so we're still dealing with smoke in our atmosphere. and the heat will be back for the holiday weekend. right now a foggy look over san francisco. but no excessive heat, pretty comfortable for early september numbers. there is that spare the air day with hazy sunshine. 70s to upper 80s for our hottest spots. so the air quality today, the reason for the spare the air, we're still finding areas of poor air quality especially in the north bay and santa clara valley, but while the air quality improves tomorrow, the heat will really take off. we'll have those numbers in a few minutes. developing news and controversy over nancy pelosi's san francisco hair salon visit. the house speaker says that this was all a setup. the salon other than says she is now getting death threats. and here is the photo of that started it all. it is from video the salon owner

at the live desk, a new poll is shedding light on how the coronavirus pandemic is hitting home in our state. listen to this statistic, one in five californians know someone who has divided of covid-19. that is according to a new poll released by the california health care foundation. they surveyed more than 1200 residents last month. the virus has killed more than 13,000 kacalifornians. black and latinx were most likely to know a victim. researchers also studied people's attitudes about the shelter-in-place rules. 92% said that they understand the current public health orders, 69% think that the rules should be even stricter to curb the spread. biggest supports of that idea were low income residents with 78% saying our state needs to do more. californians say they want to see leaders focus on three key areas including preventing deaths, reopening businesses and

also reopening schools. ucsf researchers are calling for more covid testing of whal people are testing positive at hi higher rates. and 93% of those who tested positive were about latinx at that b.a.r.t. station. and the cdc is urging states to get ready for a coronavirus vaccine by the first of november. governors in all 50 states got a letter urging them to ramp up their vaccine distribution centers but the director of the national institutes of health says it is unlikely that there will be a vaccine that soon and critics say politics are at play

contained. it has burned more than 390,000 acres. the lnu complex has burned more than 375,000 acres and is 78% contained. and the czu complex has burned more than 85,000 acres and is almost 50% contained. and the heat wave that is in store for us could be bad news especially in the north bay. cal fire is particularly worried about the walbridge fire in sonoma county that is part of the lnu lightning complex. firefighters say conditions could be ripe for smoking embers to reignite. and the heat could sprain the power supply. there is a weekend alert asking for all of us to conserve energy during peak hours. still ahead, a grim projection for the u.s. economy, the milestone we could hit because of the covid-19 pandemic.

northbound it is slow at the hai hillsdale boulevard off-ramp. speeds down to about 8 miles per hour. and we had a single car sproutri southbound 280 past john daly boulevard. and there is a proposal to close the atherton station. the public can xent on tcomment at 9:00 this morning. caltrain says the station has seen steady drops in ridership. allel kids in oakland will be able to get free food again today. and this includes kids in chart ter orte schools. nutrition service teams were required to verify all students receiving food in the first three weeks of school, but earlier this week, the department of agriculture reversed course and announced

the congressional budget office says that the national debt is set to exceed the size of the u.s. economy next year for the first time since world war ii. and what we're seeing here is in the april to june quarter, government spending surged to combat the coronavirus and tax revenueplunged because of the pandemic. in the fiscal year that begins october 1, the federal debt will reach or exceed 100% of the u.s. gross national product. the deficit is expected to reach $3.3 trillion. but economists are still urnlgting lawmakers to borrow more money to fuel the economic recovery. in the south bay, three san jose police officers involved in a deadly shooting in may of 2019 have been cleared. the santa clara district attorney's office says an investigation found that the officers acted legally. police say the officers shot a man as he drove a stolen car

are ready to get those customers back to the casino, but they will be doing so outside. san jose city council voting to allow casinos to operate outside earlier this week. again, matrix plans to move about 28 of their 49 tables outside under an 8,000 square foot tent by the end of the week. and they will be bringing back 300 of their 700 employees. but because of how regulated casinos are, it will take them a while to get everything in place. the area will have to be inspected by regulators to make sure that safety procedures are adequate, everything from cleaning and sanitation to making sure surveillance cameras and security are up to speed even with the operations outside. want to talk a little bit more about sanitation. cards will either have to be tossed out or sanitized when a dealer changes out. you might be wondering what happens to chips, they will be cleaned or swapped out during dealer changes as well. and those used chips will be washed and disinfected. with casinos closed the last six
