the campaign season. biden continues to criticize the president over the pandemic and president trump is focusing on mail-in voting. >> sign your mail-in ballot, okay? you sign it. and send it in. and then you have to follow it. and if on election day or early voting that is not counted, go in and vote. >> it is illegal to do what the president suggested. and anyone caught voting twice could face felony charges. early voting starts today with ballots going in the mail in north carolina. here in california, ballots will be mailed by october 5th. the fbi is warning about foreign influence and disinformation campaigns targeting the november 3 election. a memo by the san francisco division says that the fbi election crime coordinators in each local field office are assessing threat and the memo includes a step for voters to

take. they include checking your local polling information to know how and where you can vote or where your information comes from especially if you are finding it on social media from unverified sources. also make sure that you are aware of deep fakes, that is technology that is used to create artificial audio and video recordings but they look real. and report suspicious activity to the fbi and the social media platform hosting that questionable content. and things are different this year because of the pandemic. all registered voters in california will be mailed a ballot. ballots will go out the first week of october and all vote-by-mail ballots in california come with prepaid postage. you can include them at anytime including up to election day which is november 3. the envelope has to be sealed, signed and dated.

you can turn it in at your county election office, you can do it at a ballot drop box, a vote center, really any polling place. your ballot has to be postmarked no later than november 3. it can be received as late as november 20th and it will still count. you can also track your ballot online through the secretary of state's website. on election day you can also vote in person. you should wear a mask and you won't be refused your right to vote if you don't have one. it has been nearly six months since northern california ski areas had to close because of the pandemic. tahoe area resorts are preparing to reopen once snow starts falling, but they will have new covid protections. here is laura anthony. >> reporter: here at northstar, they are already open top to bottom -- the good old days when ski areas were wide open and masks were optional. and just a way to keep warm. but then it all came to an abrupt halt in early march thanks to the coronavirus.

today we're talking hot temperatures on the way for the holiday and that air quality, that just won't change. and live doppler 7 showing you we have a bit of a marine layer along the coast. it has been shrinking has high pressure builds in. palo alto, 54. 57 in napa, 59 right now in concord. so later on today, a couple of degrees warmer today than we were yesterday, but this is pretty average for this time of the year. a high of 91 for concord, 80 in palo alto, 69 in the city. 86 in santa rosa, 82 in san jose. again spare the air is in effect. overnight tonight, the marine layer continues to shrink. mid-50s to low 60s as we greet the heat tomorrow. so an excessive heat warning will go into effect at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow and this will last through 9:00 p.m. monday for a big chunk of the bay area shaded in that pink color.
