just what question need on a friday. good morning, it is friday september 4. we are kicking off the day with a singing parrot and i like it. we'll check in with drew because i know that it will be hot. >> yeah, over the next couple days, we'll be monitoring firsts air quality again today and we have hot temperatures kick in tomorrow. right now we're tracking fog over the city. the day planner today, there are no issues with the heat. temperatures this afternoon are pretty close to average for this time of the year. again, we have the spare airday so the air quality today, this is where we have been for almost 2 1/2 weeks between moderate and poor air quality. and so that continues today. and also tomorrow. and then tomorrow, dangerous heatwave begins. heat advisories starting at 11:00 a.m. around the bay shoreline. excessive heat warnings also kick in for a majority of the bay area.

a closer look is coming up. and at the live desk, i'm tracking the flex alert for the labor day holiday weekend. the heat could put a strain on the power grid, so there is a possibility of rolling blackouts. utility companies will focus on conservation during peak hours. >> pg&e is putting all hands on deck in these areas where we're expecting the triple digit temperatures. things that could be by the heat, we're stocking up for this weekend. >> and governor newsom has signed an emergency proclamation to free up additional capacity.

and doctors say that labor day weekend could be make or break against the fight of coronavirus. they urge americans to follow social distancing guidelines. and in southern california, some companies hired private security guards to enforce face masks at beaches. college towns are closing bars to keep students from gathering. at least eight universities have reported homore than 1,000 case on campus. >> not sure that being face-to-face is helpful or necessary at this int. >> and in indiana, the positivity rate is nearly 90% in some sororities and fraternities. and hundreds of students could be back there class next week.

nationwide protests over police brutality are a key issue in the race for the white house and this morning a new poll reveals most americans think that president trump's rhetoric about the unrest is making things worse. jobina has more on this. >> will the poll finds that the president's message of law and order is not breaking through. over half of the country, 55%, think that president trump is aggravating the situation. just about one in ten americans think that he is making it better. among his base, 30% of republicans say that the president is improving the situation. most democrats, 79%, believe that trump is making the situation worse. a majority of incidents feel that way too. the president did not poll favorably with white noncollege educated americans. just 18% think that he is having a positive effect on the protests. abc news conducted the poll in
