hotter. >> really concerned about the hot weather again because we just had it not that long ago. >> this heat wave could be dangerous, and now the governor has declared a state of emergency to shore up the states energy capacity as the grid gets a work out. >> my electric bill is definitely going up because of the ac, and i can't be without it. it just gets too hot. >> some hardware stores already out of large fans. good evening. thanks for joining us. i'm larry beil. >> i'm ama dates. let's get right to meteorologist sandhya patel. >> it's the kind of heat wave that will be potentially dangerous. it is going to be stifling and an excessive heat warning has been posted from 11:00 a.m. tomorrow to 9:00 p.m. monday. it covers all inland areas upper 90s to 110 degrees or higher. and that means heatstroke, heath exhaustion certainly possible.

it is going to be warmer than average for this time of year. records are certainly possible. tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m. you're already seeing those temperatures mainly in the 60, 70s away from the coast. you have 90s showing up across some of those inland areas. and it's the triple digit heat as we head towards 2:00 in the afternoon, when you're in the mid-100s and only getting hotter as we head into the second half of your weekend. we also have fire danger coming up 10:00 p.m. monday until 8:00 a.m. wednesday fire weather watch going up as offshore winds develop, and that means the potential for fire spreading rapidly will be running high. larry, ama. >> all right, sandhya, thank you. and a lot ofant beat the heat b h. yo w't be abl to do that in saa cruz. beaches county wide will be off-limits. people are allowed to walk across the sand and participate in water activities but sunbathing and beach walks are not allowed.

in pacifica the coastal trail, hiking trails beach, boulevard promenade and pacific beach will be open. the city there considered closing the beaches but decided against it believing visitors would still travel there anyway. >> the national seashore and tamales bay closed. count ahealth officials are warning people avoid crowds and large gatherings. also the lake in napa county going to be closed this weekend not due to coronavirus concerns but the extensive damage from recent wildfires. officials also pulling out the welcome mat along the russian veours of solitude among sonoma county's russian river, elbow river, silence as lance took it all in before labor day weekend.

santa cruz mountains from the czu complex. this video taken at boulder creek. house after house burned to the ground, and in some areas the only thing left is the foundation and a chimney. we also saw large swaths of forest that have been wiped out by the flames. a lot of trees also appear to have turned brown, a sign they went up in flames. the owners of two nursing homes will pay a half million dollars to settle a lawsuit after residents were abandoned in santa rosa during the 2017 tubs fire. state and local prosecutors accused the owners of failing to prepare staff to evacuate residents. loved one and good samaritans rescued many residents from the fire storm. a los gatos teacher and uden tt said he was rror of sexually abused.

ab w has more on the case and how you can protect your kids while they're in school. >> reporter: the case against 50-year-old joseph houg also known as ryan began in may after a 13-year-old boy stepped forward to say he made him uncomfortable by repeatedly asking him to reveal his stomach until he eventually complied. this led to an investigation in which authorities heard from a man who said he was sexually assaulted by the blossom hill elementary teacher in 2008. a search of his home found multiple devices with concerning content including videos of young boys changing clothes and images of children in their underwear. >> a video of him pulling a students shorts down and recording it. it appears that the recording device was hidden to a certain extent. >> reporter: officialwise the youth theater say houg hadn't been involved since june when

they first became aware of the allegations. in a statement they said we're concerned about the well-being of our youth and family and wish for healing for any who have been impacted by this news. how can you keep your kids safe during these challenging times? >> it's really important to have open conversations with your children starting from when they're really young so they don't feel as if there's some type of stigma or shame associated with sharing that somebody did or said something that was inappropriate to them. >> reporter: dr. brett solomon is a child tudies professor and director of the students teacher program at sainta clara university. >> the conversation needs to be centered around keeping yourself safe and making sure that you communicate to an adult, a trusting adult when something doesn't seem right. >> reporter: a reminder that although parents can't b classr the power to arm their kids with the skills they need to recognize inappropriathavior.

she must have treated that beauty salon owner pretty badly. >> reporter: in the pacific heights home therom tree are ne a different scene thursday when salon owners gathered to voice their frustrations with the speaker's maskless salon visit caught on camera. >> that visit by the speaker felt especially like a slap in the face for these salon owners, and that's what they've been saying. that's why they're protesting. what do you have to say about that in particular? >> well, again, i say that -- and let's have an honest conversation. this is not the only salon we know that is probably doing this. and i'm not faulting them for going against the order to not open. i'm sure there are others that unfortunately they have no ey eee, so, look,l i can't change how they feel. i feel upset that i can't do more for them. i get it, but at the endy move on.

>> in san francisco, abc 7 news. >> a family will receive more than $5 million to settle lawsuit after a man was shot can killed by vallejo police back in 2018. his loved ones accused officers of acting improperly after the 33-year-old was stopped. he was riding a bicycle at the time in the police chief is trying to fire the officer who killed him. cameras and cellphones they've become important tools to document interaction between the police and public, but the rights of bystanders to record the police may not be well-known. social justice, an important part of building a better bay area, a seminar held today outlined how cameras can be used safely and legally in public. abc 7 news reporter david louie with the story. >> reporter: while officers in

roughly almost half of all police departments across the country. >> when citizens are recording and journalists are recording it's likely it's shared if not in realtime fairly soon. >> reporter: a journalist and a studies professor at san jose state. she held an online seminar how bystanders and journalists can safely and legally record the police. with today's technology police say everyone should expect to be on camera, that's welcome at fremont police. >> if we have multiple perspectives it can enhance an investigation and paint a clearer picture about what actually happens. >> reporter: webinar panelists pointed out anyone including bystanders can record audio and video of officers in public. however, officers can impose reasonable limitations. >> maybe move somebody away from the situation if it's a matter of public safety or streets are being blocked.

>> reporter: also officers cannot search or seize a bystanders our journalists phones or cameras. >> they're on duty. they're out in the public, not in a private space. they're doing something consistent with their jobs like an arrest or questioning or helping somebody in an accident or something like that. in those contexts police officers do not have -- of privacy. >> reporter: david louie, abc 7 news. islamic leaders in berkeley today donated hundreds of face masks and care packages. their donation went to the -- center. they have a breath mobile which serves more than a dozen sites around the bay area.

definitely keep lightweight clothing on instead of piling on those clothes. pretty clear across the bay area. we did have some thick fog earlier this morning. air quality right now anywhere from good to moderate. it's green to yellow, and we are going to continue to see air quality fluctuating from hour-to-hour and location to location as long as those wildfires are going. so when you look at this view from our emeriville camera you'll notice how hazy it is. here's a live look from our roof camera and it's a beautiful view. blue skies along the embarcadero and looking out towards the bay. 68 in san francisco in the mid-70s around oakland, 81 san jose, 64 degrees in half moon bay. east bay hills camera, mount diablo is visible, low 90s novato, santa rosa, and 93 degrees in concord. here's a view from our golden gate bridge camera, and it is nice to see the blue skies. dangerous heat wave this

weekend. record temperatures are likely. we have that spare the air for tomorrow. i wouldn't be surprised if it gets extended. gusty winds and high fire danger expected next week especially. temperatures will be in the low 50s to lown morning. it will be hazy. just b it will get uncomfortable by the time we head into the afternoon. look at these temperatures. triple digits morgan hill, gilroy, 95 in san jose, 97 santa clara. looking at low 90s around mountain view and palo alto. 70 degrees half moon bay, and then san francisco 77 degrees. well above average for this time of year. north bay number is 100 in calestoga, 97 in napa, 98 santa rosa, east bay mid-80s hayward, oakland. sizzling 103 concord, 104 in livermore. your accuweather seven day forecast, triple digit sizzle turns to extreme heat on sunday and really remaining excessive
