there is a trend going there. you get it? and this heatwave is just beginning. >> yeah. rights away, let's get to abc7 news meteorologist drew tuma with more details of this last blast of summer, or at least we hope, drew. >> yeah, dion and eric, we are tracking very dangerous heat that started today. we had a few records, including na this afternoon which exceeded 100 degrees. and today is actually the d we weekend. it's only going to get hotter tomorrow. right now it's 103 in concord. 99 in novato. 94 s82 currently in the city. 99 in brentwood and palo alto it is hot at 97 degrees. it's for that fact of excessive heat warnings and heat advisories now in effect. they started earlier this morning, and this is going to last several days. we're finding this heatwave will continue to at least monday evening, where these advisories

and warnings will expire at 9:00 p.m. so it's not only the heat we are tracking. it's also our air quality. air quality right now is moderate across the entire region. but we're going fluctuate, again, between moderate and poor the next couple days. so the spare the air days have been extended. we have heat, air quality issues and by thend of the weekend, we'll have high fire danger. we'll talk about it all in the accuweather forecast in a few minutes. >> thank you. in some parts of the bay area we cannot head to the water over labor day. lake berryessa is closed including tomales bay and the seashore in marin county, all the beaches in pacifica, the fitzgerald marine preserve and bonitas creek reserve and santa cruz beaches are only open for a few hours each day. beaches that are open are popular spots. abc7 news reporter anser hassan talked to people who headed to

stinson beach. >> reporter: stinson beach in the north bay was a hot spot for those trying to escape this weekend's record-breaking bay area heat. >> we have a friend who comes every saturday religiously. so we want to join him this weekend. >> reporter: body boarding to football among the activities on the beach while for others a chance to just sit and relax. >> i've been constantly in front of a computer, working from home for so long that i just want to environment. lax in an open >> reporter: but the chance of big crowds is a cause for concern. cases of covid-19 jumped nationwide after memorial day weekend, and there was a similar pattern after the fourth of july. >> so sometimes you're open, sometimes you're not? you just got to get lucky? >> reporter: on saturday, stinson beach parking lots were packed. >> well, ts iret a i would say you can see for yourself here is pretty much social distancing. i don't really see groups of people that don't know each other that are together. most of the groups out here are pretty tight. they're together and they know each other. but i think the social distancing out here is good.

>> it is very hot. get out, hope for some wind. >> reporter: mike howard came out with his family and friends for lunch in novato where temperatures were higher than along the coast. streets in the downtown were closed off for outdoor dining. it may be hot, but howard says the family just needed to get out. >> even though it's ho bt, i oud up in theuse. >> reporter: as temperaturesho climbed this weekend, the margaret todd senior center in novato is one of three cooling centers in marin county that be.ll in the north bay, anser hassan, peninsula, beaches are open in half moon bay. and despite pleas from the city for people to comply, many appeared to ignore social distancing guidelines while they coafternoooled os ffhi t and people still flocked to pacifica, even though beaches there are closed until tuesday morning. traffic moved slowly along highway 1 through linda mar this afternoon. local officials closed achfront parking lots, and city leaders say people

suspected of violating the beach closure order could get citations and face fines. now there are designated places in the south bay to keep cool this holiday weekend. in santa clara county, centers are open today at the cupertino senior center, mountain view community center and murphy park building in sunnyvale. san jose has cooling spots at the roosevelt, mayfair and south side community centers. all are following social distancing regulations. developing news now. pg&e just announced plans to do preventative power shutoffs this upcoming wee aknd been issued for tuesday and wednesday in several parts of the state because of gusty winds and dry conditions. this includes all bay area counties except san francisco. the utility says it's concerned about the potential for dangerous fire conditions. we're also under a flex alert this holiday weekend. asked to conserve electricity due to higher demand because of the heat. there is the possibility of more rolling blackout, but state officials say there are none schedule right now.

instead, utility companies will focus on conservation during peak hours from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. this statewide flex alert runs through labor day. and we have an explainer about flex alerts and tips how you can save energy. it's all on our website, abc7news.com. firefighters continue to make progress against the biggest wildfires burning in northern california. containment has gone up today in all three complex fires in the bay area. the scu lightning complex has burned the most acres, nearly 400,000. it's now at 86% contained. evacuation orders have been for santa clara county lifted. cal fire is also working near gilroy and morgan hill to put out the rest of the fire. they hope to have full containment from a week from today. and in the north bay, the lnu lightning complex has charred more than 375,000 acres and is 89% contained. cal fire says this weekend's dry, hot weather could contribute, though, to the

fire's growth. and in the santa cruz mountains, the czu lightning complex has burned more than 86,000 acres and is 61% contained. evacuation orders have been reduced to warnings in boulder creek and bonny doon, as well as san mateo county. cal fire is warning homeowners to prepare for traffic as they return because crews are still working in the area. now we do have a list of the d closures, and repopulation zones all on our website. that's abc7news.com. to the coronavirus pandemic, where california is seeing a big decrease in the rate of test positivity, now at 4.8% over the last 14 days. our state has reported nearly 5,000 cases since yesterday, bringing the total to more than 733,000 infections statewide. here in the bay area, confirmed cases have topped 92,000 with more than 1200 deaths. nationally, the u.s. is closing in on 6.3 million cases. the race for a vaccine is

investigators in texas are trying to figure out what caused several boats to sink during a rally for president trump today. pictures and videos from the boat parade near austin show several s elssin the travis county sheriff's office says they responded to a number of distress calls, but no one was injured or killed. they don't suspect foul play in the sinkings, but they have not given a cause. the national weather service says there was no severe weather, and winds in the area were generally calm. there are new developments with a restaurant that's asking customers not to wear foothills. video shows the owners refusing to let state inspectors inside their business. >> you guys will have to kill us first. >> highway patrol officers escorted cal osha inspectors when they visited the apple bistro in placerville. cal osha even had a court order

well. sutro tower right now, a live look. you can see the air quality issues we have right now in our sky. our atmosphere has smoke in it. you can see the haze flowing over the golden gate bridge that is not fog. it is haze. and we'll continue to have spare the air days for the rest of the holiday weekend. so tomorrow and monday, again, we're going to have our air quality fluctuating between yellow and orange. that moderate to poor category. there will be no change, unfortunately, in our winds to help clear any smoke out of this. and we're seeing new fire starting around the state today. that means more smoke is getting poored into the atmosphere. we're likely going to deal with the air quality issues for the next several days. right now look at the numbers. 101 in san ramon. we're at 94 in san jose. 99 in santa rosa. it's 107 in cloverdale. 87 in oakland. the city right now coming in at 82 degrees. tonight our marine layer, it is totally absent. it's gone. there is no fog to help cool us off. overnight tonight, we will be dealing with very warm

conditions. we'll only fall into the 60s and into the 70s overnight tonight. tomorrow morning first thing, you'll feel that warm air out the door, and then it will be very hot tomorrow afternoon. so let's take a closer look at our highs tomorrow and our microclimate. starting in the south bay, forecasting a high of 102 in san jose. that would be a record high tomorrow. 107 in morgan hill. 100 in cupertino. this is why we had the excessive heat warnings in effect. this is dangerous heat we're dealing with in the south bay. along the peninsula, 101 for redwood city. that would be a record for tomorrow. 99 in palo alto. 95 in san mateo. the coast, yes, it is cooler. this is still warmer, in the upper 70s to lower 70s to half moon bay to pacifica. we are expecting a wide range in temperatures in the city tomorrow. the eastern half around the financial district, the mission, hunter's point, yes expecting temperatures in the low 90s. the western half, say the outer sunset, the daly city area, we're expecting temperatures a little cooler. but still in the upper 70s to
