california is at more than 735,000. the u.s. total surpassed 6.3 million cases with more than 189,000 people dying. santa clara county wants to give businesses a chance to right their wrongs when it comes to covid-19 health order violations. >> our team has engaged with over, well, nearly 300 businesses and of those 300, we only had three that resulted in fines. that shows you that together we could really accomplish a lot. together we can find a solution to this and just like all of you, my hopes are we get back to normal very quickly. >> according to the ordinance adopted three weeks ago, businesses in violation of health orders have a grace period to make corrections and that's exactly what two of the businesses did. their fines ended up being waived. happening right now in the north bay. the high winds that mike was talking about are fanning the flames of the walbridge fire which is part of the lnu lightning complex. new evacuations for people in

sonoma county who live south of mill creek road and west of westside road and east of palmer creek road. abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live with with pg&e public safety shutoffs. good morning, amy. >> hi, good morning, kumasi. pg&e started shutting off the power overnight in parts of napa and sonoma county. the utility said this should impact 172,000 customers. we are on our way up to napa county right now to check out the situation. pg&e says it's doing this because the forecast is calling for dry and windy conditions. calling this critical fire weather with a high ignition risk. they are afraid a power line could fall and start a fire. pg&e says while this weather calls for being on high alert, it does not look like the weather we saw in 2017 when the

fire happened. >> this event doesn't have as much as we call upper level support with it. so, we don't anticipate it being as strong. >> they are also watching the walbridge fire jumped a containment area. evacuations have been ordered there and they're just hoping that wind conditions don't pick up. 30 to 40 acres have burned near hacienda. this public safety power shutoff will affect parts of sonoma and lake county and dry, windy conditions to last through tomorrow morning. pg&e says then it will head out once the weather has cleared up to go and inspect their power lines and make sure they're all okay and they hope that will take about 12 hours and then they'll be able to get the power back on. so, possibly get that power turned on tomorrow evening and that is still to be determined. live from napa county, amy

hollyfield, abc7 news. a rescue operation is under way to get dozens of people out of the path of tcreek fire. the fire doubled in size just yesterday scorching more than 135,000 acres with 0% containment in the sierra national forest. jobina is at the live desk with more on this. good morning, jobina. >> good morning, kumasi. officials say 14 people are trapped on china peak and at least 50 people are trapped at lake edison. as far as this morning, we'll let you know from crews as they try to get them from helicopter last night, but the heavy smoke made it too dangerous. at last check they were trying again overnight using night vision goggles. medics are on standby waiting to treat the rescued people. this is the second rescue since the fire broke out friday. >> campers and hikers were all over the place prior and during the entire creek fire event. and they're rendezvousing at different locations and we're

forest lands or they could also face felonies if the flames destroy structures or other property. a fast-moving fire in mendocino county is forcing evacuations. new video of the oak fire which is burning west of highway 101 and scorched at least 1,000 acres since it started just after noon yesterday. cal fire says flames were moving north and more evacuations are possible because of those winds that we are expecting. well, blistering hot temperatures and dry vegetation all raising concerns for firefighters in the oakland hills. >> we're at 99 degrees. 22% humidity and our fuel moisture is down to 4% right now, which is explosive. >> the deputy chief of the oakland fire department explained yesterday that those conditions are just a recipe for disaster. so they are stepping up patrols, they're calling in neighboring departments to help keep watch. people who live in the area are on edge. the sleepless nights from the

layer. look at west wind at 12. that's bringing us the cooler temperatures but still going to have plenty of smog in the air and still going to be a very hot day. here's a look at our winds, once again. look at them picking up as we head to noon up in the north bay. they'll calm down a little bit in the afternoon hours as we head towards 5:00 and then look at them, again, during the evening and overnight hours. that's when the fastest winds. this is going to blow the hardest right before it finally says i'm finished as we head through tomorrow morning. so, watch the critical fire conditions. they're very high orange to red, extreme in the north bay and watch them spread and spread southward as we head throughout the day and into the evening hours. so, we need to be vigilant everywhere about the fire. all right, let's turn it over to traffic and see what jobina's got. hi, jobina. >> hi, mike. thank you so much. good morning, everyone. so, we're beginning to see that commute come back. we know we had a pretty quiet day yesterday.

all right. let's take a look at what's going on. it's tuesday. let's start with the record. let's get us out of the way. tomorrow hopefully the last day and it will be 23 consecutive spare the air alert days. let's going to talk about what is going to happen by san jose at 87 and 66 degrees right now and dry and breezy today with heat lingering, but easing just a little bit. that spare the air through tomorrow as we mentioned and average autumn temperatures for the remainder of the week. can't wait to get to the seven day and show you. set up high pressure to our northwest and low to our southeast and you can see the wind flowing between those accelerating, compressing as it goes from high level to low level. when you compress air it heats and it dries out and it heats even more and that's what makes it so dangerous today and tomorrow with those critical fire conditions. now, it is also bringing in some slightly milder air and most will stay up in tahoe today and still in the low 90s to 100s in the south bay and 92 to 102 and still in the mid 80s to 90s on

check out the temperatures across the northern half of the state or country, i should say. right now at about 4:54, you can see fall breaking out with temperatures 10 to 24 degrees cooler than they were 24 hours ago. for us, we'll tap into some of that, but not all of it. i mean by tomorrow, the 100s are gone and we'll even try to get rid of most of the 90s thursday. if there are any 90s, they're barely going to be around fairfield and antioch while the rest of us are in the 60s, 70s and 80s. hang in there. just a couple more days and we're finally through this grueling event. we'll have the latest details on how hard it will be today and tomorrow coming up at the top of the hour. i'll see you then. abc7 news live desk update.

>> at the live desk, a black woman will now be the chief of kentucky's louisville metro police department which has been heavily criticized since officers shot and killed breonna taylor. serve as interim chief of the department. long-time police chief steve conrad was fired in june because of a separate incident. protests have been going on more than 100 nights since taylor's death. the kentucky attorney general will announce whether criminal charges will be brought against the officer soon. third black person to serve as chief of the louisville metro police department. kumasi. >> thank you, jobina. it might look a little different than usual, but oakland's restaurant week is under way. more than 75 restaurants are offering outdoor dining and hundreds are delivering, doing delivery and takeout, actually. on the visit oakland website, you can look up restaurants based on cuisine and neighborhood.
