winds that will head our way today but we have the fog to deal with first. here is a look at live doppler 7 where a dense fog advisory a lot like yesterday will take us through about 9:00. 52 in novato. 55 in san francisco with 60 in livermore. visibility in miles here, reduced to about a mile in santa rosa, over a mile in oakland. so it's bad everywhere, two to three miles anyoneland valleys and the best we can do is six miles out by the delta where the air quality is bad, unhealthy vacaville, rio vista. closer to the bay area, shows we're in the green for now and that is pretty good news, below 100 as we look at our index but getting down to santa cruz more unhealthy air and that will winds are expected to pick up. so throughout the day today, we're looking at some smog, spare the air alert, conditions, cooler by five to ten degrees. we'll see 70s to low 80s today, hazy, certainly wear your

massimass i mask out there. index below 100 at times and we'll explain how the winds will help us out during the week ahead with mist and drizzle and cooler air mass. >> thank you. this morning, we're following developing news out of southern california. a search is under way for a suspect the l.a. county sheriff's office says shot two of its deputies in the head in an apparent ambush. officials say the deputies are currently fighting for their lives. they were parked outside a transit station in compton. officials say both were shot multiple times and underwent surgery. both graduated from the academy 14 months ago.ai on t developing story coming up in a few minutes later in the show. back here in the bay area, happening today, football is back. the 49ers are scheduled to play the arizona cardinals in the season opener at leeveigh's stadium but the nfl is closely monitoring the air quality index for this afternoon's kickoff.

more than 3 million acres have burned this season, with no end in sight. the august complex in mendocino county scorched more than 846,000 acres, by far the largest now in state history. new video this morning of a scene that has become sadly too familiar. eerie nighttime footage of scorched cars and rubble in the town of berry creek right near lake oroville. in the same town is a beloved camp for child cancer patients and families. it, toos that been burned by the north complex fire. we're talking about camp okaizu. their facility sustained significant damage. abc 7 has followed this summer camp for almost two decades but now the camp needs our help. this morning we explain what we can do. >> reporter: nestled on aittlwa affected by cancer.

we want to show you some of the surveillance video tweeted yesterday by the l.a. county sheriff, investigators say the deputies were inside their patrol vehicle outside this light rail station in compton, we are not showing the moment he opens fire. it is of course very disturbing. our abc sister station in los angeles says both deputies were shot in the head and are in critical condition. a 31-year-old mother and a 24-year-old man. they have each been with the sheriff's department for a little more than a year. the l.a. county sheriff saying this just late last night. >> that was a cowardly act. the two deputies were doing their job, minding their own business and watching out for the safety of the people on the train and seeing somebody just walk up and start shooting on them, it's, it pisses me off. >> so far detectives haven't had a detailed description of the shooter other than it was this person being a man wearing dark

clothes at the time. we will keep you posted here and on our abc 7 news app as soon as we get any updates on this. we're seeing pretty significant developments in california's battle to stop the spread of the coronavirus. thstate did report sewhh is ah. the seven-day dipped to 3.6%, and there's the 14-day rate. it is at 3.9%. this is the first time in a long time that we have seen both rates under 4%. the positivity rate is how many people are coming up positive of those that are tested, and a good indicator of how rapidly covid-19 is spreading. so a little more positive news that we need. a big day for so many in the city the f march, san francisco will begin to really reopen. here is what's going to be allowed. tattoo parlors are also included here. keep in mind, these services

quite as dense as yesterday, but all eyes are on a system to the west of us, that will bring in a wind shift and really push this smoke out of the bay area as we get into the next 24 to 36 hours. between now and then, there are small increments of moderate air quality but still overall it is unhealthy out there. first the fog, though, anywhere from less than a mile to five miles in san carlos so that's better but still just over a mile in oakland and petaluma with two to three miles from concord to livermore and this takes us through about 9:00. unhealthy spare the air alert today and tomorrow. we have pockets of better air looks like tuesday and wednesday maybe not a spare the air day. we'll wait and see as we get to a better part of the forecast. but as we look right now at the air quality, notice the greens right here for san jose, napa, san rafael, indicating better air, san francisco, kochland, redwood city, not the case out by the delta though, you get

down to santa cruz and we're lo the wind shift is going to play a big role. pockets of smokey air throughout the day today into monday and looking at increasing sea breeze today, improving the air quality in spots, and then moderate air quality perhaps by tuesday. here is a general forecast that shows us over the pinks and oranges, 9:00 this morning, but look what happens, it looks like this is going to lift on out and lighter shading here of blue indicates less smoke, this is sunday night and as we take it into monday morning, the trend continues as it looks like the smoke will be pushed into the sierra nevada. so the wind profile at the surface here 1:00 shows the winds here double digits, so that m w thugthe l jt as acast, you'll notice that we have a pretty compact area of low pressure here, bringing some rain into the sierra nevada.

that's going to bring gusty winds and dry relative humidity for the mountains but for us, it means a continu smoke being pushed on out of here. so some good news/bad news situation there, temperatures today will be cooler, 70s in oakland. 75 in fremont. 64 along its coast and the accuweather seven-day forecast looking at the smoke and haze and pockets of better air today and tomorrow, looking at the numbers slightly cooler and into tuesday and wednesday, the system gets closer, could get warmer due to the mixing out of the marine layer and cooler with the chance of showers by the end of the week so looking better. liz? >> my pke y said less. at? less smoky? >> stay awake. >> thanks, lisa. back to the ballroom tomorrow night, in a "dancing with the stars" season that has plenty of surprises. carol baskin's appearance may be the biggest. hear what song

as we look at our fog, we still have that dense fog advisory third morning in a row until 9:00, from a mile at half moon bay to six miles at the delta. be careful, it is dense in pockets and low 50s in the north bay, 60 in san jose, as well as livermore, and just like that, we go from better air to not so great out there, as we are currently looking at unhealthy conditions, so it will be changing from moderate to unhealthy throughout the day today, as we still are stuck into that light wind pattern. so throughout the afternoon, by 10:00, 11:00, we have 60s and 70s. it's a cooler kay, winds will increase. we have 80s inland, and as those winds increase, the fog layer will also increase. so small steps to getting to better air but still under that spare the air alert today, a check on when things will really begin to clean out in a big way and when we see in a few minutes. liz? >> sounds good, thank you, lisa.

canceled so came in to see if we could reschedule. >> reporter: the city was invisible above chrissy field and the bay bridge appeared to vanish in the smoky haze. spran public library branches are reopening this weekend as clean air respite centers. the main library, chinatown and mission bay branches are offering a room to chill out with social distancing, a covid-19 health screening is required before entering. the oakland zoo tweeted it was closed saturday due to ongoing air quality concerns. in the north bay, the air wasn't much better. mt. tam shrouded in smoke, park closed due to poor air quality. stanford pulmonologist dr. karen hardy urges everyone to stay inside this weekend. >> it is very dangerous to be out in this kind of air, so it's important for everyone to have a mask, if they have to be outside, and to try and filter this kind of matter, you really would need an n-95 mask. >> reporter: a bit of good news,

cleaner air could make a comeback next week. in san francisco, cornell barnard, abc 7 news. >> the pacific northwest is also dealing with a historic emergency with a deadly wildfires there displacing tens of thousands of people. take a look at the air quality as one man returned to the site of his oregon home on saturday. now reduced to ashes. he lives near salem where the beach creek fire has killed at least four people, and burned 187,000 acres. he said they didn't take a lot of important documents with them because they were so focused on getting their pets and livestock. >> we've seen the fire that close, we grabbed the animals, left all but the cat, we couldn't find and the cat we came back two or three days later and we found him, burnt paws and burnt belly but other than that, we got him and he didn't die. >> wow. more than 2,500 square miles have burned in oregon and washington in recent days, more than the state of delaware. and there are of course also

okay some good news for b.a.r.t. riders. ridership is picking back up so the agency is adding more trains on select lines, trains will run more frequently during peak commute hours. b.a.r.t. says this is the largest weekday service increase since the pandemic hit. service hours will remain 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on weekdays and 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on weekends. also starting tomorrow, alameda county will start allowing more cars for ppl will be able to enjoy live performances like concerts, movies and relingious ceremonies. the county's vehicle based gathering order will increase the number of cars from 200 to 400 at these types of events at the alameda county fairgrounds and the coliseum. concessions can be sold but with some restrictions.

with moderate air quality. so to pick up throughout the afternoon, but right now, looking at the red indicating the unhealthy air, napa, concord, san francisco and oakland through redwood city. as we get further to the south there, still looking at the unhealthy air san jose and santa at the smoky air today. the winds increasing later on today so minor improvements late in the day, why i think maybe the game will be played. looking at the increase in the sea breeze, and by the time we get to tuesday that trough is to the north of us, and we definitely should see that better air but it's also going to dry things out for our friends in oregon, the mountains of the north and east. we look at conditions over the bay, the orange and the pink, 9:00 this morning, indicates the poor air quality going through the next 12 hours or so, and this continues to get pushed to
