all right, welcome back. back with the latest on the trump administration's attempt to take down tiktok in the u.s. by now you've heard of it blowing up in popularity with teens and young adults. the app with bite sized videos is being accused by the u.s. government of a much more dangerous motive. well, this morning as president trump moves to ban new down loads of tiktok and wechat by tomorrow abc news reporter has more on what it would mean for millions of users. >> reporter: this morning the clock is ticking on tiktok. the chinese owned mobile app tiktok and wechat will both disappear from u.s. app stores. with the stroke of a pen president trump issuing executive orders shutting down the wildly popular apps that have taken social media by storm. americans in the u.s. will be banned from downloading the mega social platforms. >> we have to have the total

can continue to use the app until november 12th and a deal could still be struck between u.s. companies and tiktok to satisfy the trump administration's national security concerns. abc news, washington. >> and we are just 44 days away from the november election, and election officials are scrambling to find poll workers. many are traditionally older and are now reluctant to work because of the pandemic. abc 7 news reporter amanda del castillo explains why this year the face that greets you at the polls has been very different. >> reporter: taking on monumental issues. for 20-year-old mckala her generation is taking on the general election. she's stepping up as a poll worker in santa clara county. %-p chord with me that right now is a time for change. >> reporter: in years past polling locations have typicall volunteers.

a pew research data analysis pound 58% of u.s. poll workers were 61 and older. 27% were over 70. of course this reflects a high risk population during the pandemic. >> i think that makes it really necessary for people who are younger and healthy to sign-up and volunteer their time in order to kind of take that burden off of older folks who are more vulnerable. >> reporter: the registrar voter's office will open 100 voting centers on october 31st. for now it's challenged with recruiting and charging up to 2,000 polling workers. >> they' called us and yowhat, i love to help you, i've helped you so many years and decades but i am at an age i'm not physically able to work. >> i think it's really important to protect our democracy, and i think a lot of students have more time on their hands to do that. >> reporter: i'm amanda del castillo, abc 7 news. >> and we all the election

information you need to know that includes important dates by voting by mail and all the state's propositions. just head to abc7news.com/election. as the jewish high holidays of rosh hashanah began at sundown last night, an important note to add about the massing of ruth bader ginsberg. the holiday marks the start of the jewish new year. and according to jewish tradition a person who dies just before rosh hashanah is considered to be of great righteousness. the teachings believe they are the ones who god held back at the last moment because they're the ones he needed the most. i know i've seen on social mia and twitter at least a lot of people saying that that sort of added some comfort to knowing ruth bader ginsberg was the first jewish woman to serve on the supreme court. and so the timeliness of her passing right as as as as as asa

was very symbolic. right now it is good. we have green all around the bay, but we still have a spare the air alert. so what's the deal with that? well, we're expecting a wind shift, and winds have shifted but they're still light out there. here's a look at live doppler 7 where you can see the fog right here right along the coast from the san mateo coast, and looking at some of the haze here from the golden gate bridge. you can see how low that deck is. so it is a compressed marine layer, but we have it out towards the east bay as well. 63 in san jose, and on the coast a mild 61. it has been really nice, feeling like fall out there. lots of fog here in santa cruz. 70s today. it was in the 80s yesterday, so it got kind of warm. i felt like it was warm as well. and usually of course this time of year our onshore flow, our westerly wind kind of backs off because of that upwelling begins

to back off and we see less fog. but not the case this morning. 62 in concord, 54 in santa rosa. we have had that stubborn fog up in the north bay that continues for napa and santa rosa. very foggy there. 3 miles at half moon bay. the rest of us doing okay, but you can see that haze forming a little bit in our inland east bay. it's not so much the speed of the winds although they are kind locations.e at mt. tam, butheih so that is going to draw in some of that upper level smoke as we get towards the afternoon. not like we had last week, and not as intense but i think you'll notice it. as we look at the 24-hour temperature change it is cool out there, 2 to 4 degrees cooler. i've heard some of you out there saying it feels like fall. i certainly agree. there's the deck of low clouds. so a-built bit warmer weather in the air sunday. and it won't be as prevalent in

the south bay and peninsula. autumn beginning on tuesday at 6: 6:31. so all the greens we're in the good air quality now, but we'll be looking at another change. and here's another view at the clouds and rain to the north. but the story with this is that the wind flow once again coming out of the north. so we're checking some of the upper level smoke to head our way. out in vackaville,7 dayghnd tod upper 70s from fremont, 81 in napa and san rafael. the accuweather seven day forecast. looking at some smoky sunshine for some of you in our north bay, inland east bay that continues with warmer weather tomorrow, cleaner air for everyone on monday. fall begins on tuesday. a nice looking middle of the week. the end of the week we could see an off show glow, liz.

prime time emmy awards are for the finishing touches, waiters practicing their choreographed champagne serving while others are rolling out the red carpet. but this year it's a bit different. hollywood's biggest stars won't be taking center stage from the staple center but rather from home. the television academy issuing cameras to each nominee sending 130 of them to 20 citiesen countries. but one thing will be the same. veteran host jimmy kimmel is back. >> and also think about just trying to zoom with your grandparents and now imagine that we've got 150 celebrities who haven't made themselves lunch in like 19 years, many of them now trying to connect technically to an award show. >> reporter: with covid-19 keeping many of us indoors fans have plenty to root for this year. >> there is a higher likelihood that people watching this woulh we've had a lot of time to sit around and watch television.

good morning, everybody. i'm liz kreutz. thank you for joining us again. and if you are just joining us we have a lot more to get to but a quick look at the forecast and e sky atoy. >> right now air quality is good, liz, as we look outside here. you can see the sun here on the bay. it is 60 downtown, 63 in san jose, a mild 66 over in oakland. and this is san jose where we have low clouds here. your air quality should be good all throughout the day. we're looking at north winds and bringing in tnd east bay valleys. 59 in napa, 60 by the delta, and fog has been a problem from napa

to santa rosa. otherwise low clouds here at the surface, but we are looking at that poor air quality throughout the afternoon in the north bay and in our inland east bay. so it's a spare the air alert today. it looks like some of the smog and smoke is going toer into your sunday. we're going to warm up, tow, and then we're going to talk about cleaner air as fall arrives on tuesday. >> all right, lisa, thank you. today the nation is mourning the loss of a legal luminary and american icon supreme court justice ruth bader ginsberg. she died yesterday evening at 87 from pancreatic cancer. the senate majority leader is promising to vote on a trump nominee to fill the supreme court vacancy. abc's mary produce is in washington with the political lines being drawn and the impact it could have on the potential race. >> reporter: overnight president trump reacting to justice ginsberg's death on the side lines of his campaign rally. caught off-guard as reporters told him the stunning news. >> i didn't know that. you're telling me now for the

first time. she led an amazing life. what else can you say? she was an amazing woman, whether you agreed or not she was an amazing woman who led an amazing life. actually sad to hear that. >> reporter: with just 123 days until inauguration sources tell us the president is expected to put forth a nominee to fill ginsberg's seat in the coming days. senate majority leader mitch mcconnell saying in a statement president trump's nominee will receive a vote on the floor of the united states senate. critics say it's a total reversal from mcconnell's position in 2016 when he famously refused to even consider president obama's guardland to fill justice scalia's seat. >> this vacancy should not be filled by this lame duck president. the american people are perfectly capable of having

their say -- their say on this issue. so let's give them a voice. >> reporter: joe biden overnight saying republicans should stick to that argument and let the election determine what comes next. >> we should focus on the loss of the justice and her enduring legacy. let me be clear that the voters should pick the president, and the president should pick the justice for the senate to consider. >> reporter: but mcconnell says this situation is different. stressing that unlike in 2016 republicans now control both the senate and the white house. earlier this year discussing this possible situation mcconnell made his position crystal clear. >> if you're asking me a hypothetical about whether this republican senate would confirm a member of the supreme court to a vacancy that's created this year -- >> before november. poerall eyes are now on a handff

moderate republican senators who may break ranks. one of those republicans senator lisa murkowski of alaska said just yesterday before ginsberg's death she would not vote to confirm a supreme court nominee. republican senator susan collins of maine has also hinted she might oppose reportedly saying recently she thinks it's too close to the election to try and fill this seat. mary bruce, abc news, the white housech. >> and early yesterday vice presidential nominee kamala harris talked about her vision for the s ner elected. she was participating in an instagram live with singer lizzo, and it seems they were unaware at the time of ginsberg's passing. >> joe biden and i have a commitment we will name to the supreme court a black woman. we've never had a black woman on the united states supreme court. those folks who interpret the constitution of the united states and make decisions about things like brown vs. board of

education. >> we're continuing to pass information about the passing of ruth bader ginsberg on our website abc7news.com. happening today trump supporters in pleasanton will hold a truck rally at 11:15 this morning. they'll cruise through parts of dublin, san ramon, danville and end in livermore. organizers say expect anywhere from 50 to 300 trucks to participate. squnch and a coronavirus testing site focused on testing black oakland residents will open today. it'll open at the center of hope church parking lot off of mcarthur boulevard. it'll open at 9:00 this morning to 4:00 p.m. personal protective equipment, ppe, will also be distributed at the event. ucsf, united in health, oakland front line healers and black organizations all partnered together to open the site. you can get a free flu shot

in santa clara county. county leaders just unveiled the program available at the fair grounds through december. the bay area and country are preparing for the double threat of the flu season and a resurgence of covid-19. the saturday flu shot program at the santa clara fairgrounds runs from 9:00 to 4:00, and you do not need an appointment. in san francisco meanwhile the restaurants could move from outdoor to indoo 31st. abc 7 news reporter chris wray s says a lot of people have their fingers crossed. >> reporter: this is the scene in many restaurants still running in san francisco. >> we lost 90% of business, and this restaurant was doing 7 plus million dollars. >> reporter: here a sign of the times today three people max. it used to be 257. but some good news for those

numbers. once indoor dining reopens, restaurants can start bringing back indoor dining at 25% capacity. >> there's been so much negativity and mental stress and strain. i feel it personally, and so many people i've talked to feel it. >> reporter: for the group, a company of eight restaurants this two wheel delivery system has been their lifeline. they're desperate if the city to go the color of their bike, orange. >> i think we're ready as an industry, and i think at this point we just need to kind of know what it timetable looks like. >> reporter: at perbacco they've already ordered plexiglass and still in the back of his mind what if like other times that date gets pushed back again. >> disappointmented is not the word. i'll be crushed because you start all over again and what's next? >> we're all big boys and girls, and we all know there's a chance

welcome back. let's talk sports. a big game ahead today as the giants and a's play game two of this weekend's bay bridge series. san francisco will try to rebound from last night's loss to oakland. first pitch at 1:10 at the colosseum. last night the giants fell out of the eighth post-season spot while the a's clenched a playoff spot.

lakers cruise 126-114 and game two is on sunday. don't forget we've got monday night football. raiders in their home opener in vegas against the saints right here on abc 7. that's monday night. have a great weekend, everybody. i'm larry beil. all right, let's get another check of the weather. >> over here in san jose looking at patchy low clouds, but your air quality will remain pretty good today as those northerly winds going to influence the north bay and perhaps our inland east bay. kind of mild there in san jose, 63 and 61 and 60 downden. here's a look from our east bay already looking a bit hazy here, mt. diablo. and those hazy conditions will increase throughout the afternoon, that wind shift already occurring above about 1,000 feet. 59 in napa. low 60s for you in concord and livermore. so it's been foggy in the north

bay. that remains an issue for napa and santa rosa, and just about a mile and a quarter here so getting a little worse as that fog continues to compress right down to the surface. and then it should evaporate for some time before it reforms again. look at the wind direction here especially up to the north. but from mt. tam you can see out of the northwest 23 miles an hour but hawkeye and st. helena and knoxville all o o tf hourso see that increasing haze throughout the sky, but it was a cooler start and you may have felt that as well. 3 to 4 degrees cooler cross the bay area. san francisco has had some pretty nice air the past few days. shouldn't change too much today. you'll be partly cloudy and look for the smokier conditions north and east. could linger into your sunday. the temperatures are coming up tomorrow and looking at autumn and more fresh air arriving as

soon as monday, and of course for tuesday morning when autumn begins. here's a look at the fog. you can see there's not a whole lot of if, it comes back kind of parallel to the coast into your sunday, so it's not going to work too much to help us out when we get that haze later on today, but right now it's been nice and continues that way for the morning h aftnoh those high cloudshat he a smoke. in t s then 78 inarjose, 82 in los gatos, peninsula you'll have the sea breeze with mid-70s to upper 70s. partly cloudy for you downtown, 70. and 64 in daly city. north bay numbers hazy and warmer and low 80s in napa, mid-70s for you over in oakland. you may notice a bit of haze as well. and into our east bay numbers come up about 5 degrees today with hazy afternoon sun. tonight we're back into the 50s

indoor of the house, a very introspective journey. sort of a rescue for people from that crazy rat race we were living. and on march 15th we were just closed down from like the rest of the city. artists got up and left. >> we know people are out there and they're looking to do something. >> one day i was out watering the lawn and i started visualizing some out here. >> i was looking at the health ordinance and said let's turn to this museum inside out. >> we started building. we put a call out to all the artist and little by little organically it started turning into an actual experience. it took some time. it kind of wholes a whole story about it so you engage with pan. you see a woman made of mirrors in a tub and it was sort of about the empowerment of women.
