napa county. >> abc7 news meteorologist sandhya patel begins our team coverage with what we can expect this weekend. sandhya? >> yeah, dangerous conditions are expected this weekend, dan and dion. two rounds of gusty winds tomorrow night and sunday night. critically low humidity will mean extreme fire behavior is certainly possible. red flag warning goes up 9:00 p.m. tomorrow, runs into 8:00 a.m. monday. in the hills wind gusts to 50 miles per hour. the fire danger will be elevated. the areas in red are the north and east bay hills, the east bay valleys, solano county and the higher elevations of lake county. let's look at those hour-by-hour winds. you notice the brighter oranges showing up in napa, lake counties. those are stronger winds, up to 29 miles per hour sunday morning. 27 at 8:00 a.m. so you notice that those winds pick up. wind advisory is going up for the carquinez strait.

it's 2:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on sunday. and when you look at the humidity, the concern is as humidity goes from 3:00 p.m. saturday 26% in places like fairfield, now watch what happens with that very drying wind. you have single digit humidities in places like clearlake, 15% in fairfield that is a big concern. more on this heatwave and the fire danger coming right up. dion? >> all right. we appreciate it, sandhya. thanks. pg&e says nearly 100,000 customers could be impacted by a public safety power shutoff this weekend. but in the bay area, only about 180 customers in napa conty could lose power. the shutoff is expected to start sunday morning. and as sandhya just mentioned, a red flag warning goes into effect tomorrow, dan. >> that's right, dion. abc7 news reporter luz pena explains firefighters are now on high alert in the east bay.

>> reporter: signs like this one are hopefully not prophetic. >> i'm very concerned. >> reporter: it's been close to 29 years. >> in the open hills fire, we were here that weekend with our family when that started. we were right here. >> reporter: so when mayor little hears about a red flag warning this weekend, flashbacks of her neighborhood in flames surfaced. >> it's a memory that doesn't go away. >> reporter: east bay firefighters know whether conditions are not in their favor this weekend, but the similarities to 1991 are there. >> you see highway 24 and 13 here. same areas that we are concerned about to this day. >> reporter: fast forward to 2020. this map shows a current problematic areas. >> really, you have 24 in our hill area, like we like to think starts from engine 7 from up off of clairemont and kind of spans this whole district here. >> reporter: many coming out of battling the scu lightning complex and now fully staffing their stations to respond to any potential fires.

any police officers for the shooting death of breonna taylor. protests have been happening across the country ever since. black lives matter. >> say her name. >> breonna taylor. >> on the peninsula, a rally was also held in menlo park tonight. a good-sized crowd marched down el camino real at about 6:00 tonight, ending at the menlo park police station. several community groups took part, including the raging grannies. the protests appeared to remain peaceful. police stopped counterprotesters from reaching a larger group in a pro law enforcement rally in redwood city. there is no word of any arrests following this afternoon's brief clash. about 50 other people held flags and waved flags to express their support for police in courthouse square. organizers say they oppose recent calls to defund and

violate the first amendment. >> look at the rule of only one person at a time inside of a church to pray, it's very clear that we're being discriminated against. >> reporter: archbishop of san francisco points out that sacraments like communion cannot be done virtually, though some masses have been taking place online. >> people don't have a constitutional right to get a haircut or a manicure, but we do have a constitutional right to exercise our religion. >> reporter: like many church, st. dominic's has been holding outdoor services in their parking lot. meanwhile, here they're doing all service here virtually and say it's going well. >> our attendance is actually up. >> reporter: gordon gladstone is the executive director of congregation sherith israel. do you feel like your religious freedoms have been impinged on. >> we value life and the preservation of life above all else. >> reporter: san francisco city attorney dennis herrera responded to the doj's letter saying there is a reason san

francisco has the lowest covid-19 death rate of any city in the country. maybe the federal government should focus on a pandemic response instead of lobbing careless legal threat, religious gatherings indoors and outdoors are already set to expand in a few days. kate larsen, abc7 news. let's turn now to the coronavirus. cases remain steady in california, but the state's top health expert is warning about some troubling signs ahead of this warm weekend. >> we have the tools to reduce transmission. and by doing these simple things, we can hopefully bring these early trends of increase back down and help us get back to where we were just, you know, a week or two ago. >> dr. ghaly is also warning we could see a 90% rise in covid-related hospitalizations as a result of labor day gatherings and reopenings. in the east bay, free covid-19 test willing be available in oakland's fruitvale

confederate general, you want to change your name of someone like that, that makes sense. but lincoln, really? >> an advisory committee was launched in 2018, responsible for evaluating names that honor historical figures. their assessment found that president lincoln wasn't a true abolitionist, and on wednesday they filed a list of more than 40 schools under consideration for renaming. >> i'm thinking about the slaves he owned and how they would feel right now if they got to do public comment. >> reporter: but wilson kong, a graduate of lincoln high school says he is hoping the board finds ways to honor feats and faults. >> why don't we take that as a lesson learned and teach an extra course on civil rights on things they did back then, period correct, what happened back then that was uncomfortable to the students, because that's when i really learn about history of america. >> history is a tricky thing. it's usually seen in rear view mirror. in this case, the road they decided to go down is going to

elizabeth schulze, abc news, the capitol. google's parent company has filed a series of lawsuits filed by shareholders over how its handled sexual harassment claims. five shareholders sued alphabet here in california after its board approved a $90 million exit package for an executive fired because of sexual harassment. the company is promising changes, including pledging $310 million to expand diversity efforts. if you live in san jose, you're being asked to be among the first participants in the new climate action core. governor newsom announced the program yesterday. san jose is one of the first cities to participate. >> climate change is burning down our forests. it's lapping up our shores. it's choking our lungs. the impacts are real, and we see them today and all too recently. >> core members will help combat the climate crisis by

volunteering. people can volunteer on the program's website. there is also a fellowship program which provides a stipend. all right. let's turn our attention now to what sounds like a pretty treacherous weekend in terms of the forecast, dion. >> yeah, indeed. and sandhya patel is monitoring it all. things could get dangerous. >> absolutely. and that's why we all need to be aware of our surroundings this weekend. fire danger will be elevated. the heat will be intense enough to where some people could get heat-related illnesses, especially sunday and monday. dan and dion, let's check out what's going to happen. high pressure building into the pacific northwest this weekend will bring the heat. what's going to happen is this ridge will switch the wind direction to the north-northeast. it comes out of that direction. it raises our fire danger. you look at the fire weather index, and you will notice up in the north bay, those yellows and oranges indicating high to very high fire danger for the upcoming weekend. it's a combination of dry

conditions and gusty winds, along with the heat that is going to bring that danger. so when you look at the smoke forecast tomorrow morning at 7:00, some haze begins to appear in the north bay. but it will be okay. 12:00 in the afternoon, the focus is on the inland east bay, which is why that air quality advisory is extended. and now at 11:00 tonight, smoke from the august complex fire begins to impact other parts of the bay area as well. sunday morning, you still have a window where you might be able to get out, and the air quality won't be so bad. but then look what happens. from the south this time, we're expecting some smoke to drift in from the dolan fire. air quality today, well, it started to show some signs of declining. moderate air quality for parts of the bay area right now. smoke impact is extended through tomorrow. moderate for the inland east bay. good air quality for the rest of you. live doppler 7 showing some patchy fog along the coastline.
