know, the spare the air continues through at least friday. since we talked yesterday, north bay and inland east bay have been bumpedf and here i what i'm talking about conditions getting more extreme, more intense. it will be rather hot from 11:00 tomorrow morning to 8:00 thursday, even hotter than today, which will be hotter than yesterday. so we have a risk of heat illness giill nheatillness everywhere except the coast. from 1:00 thursday to 6:00 friday evening, we've got more than 24 hours of critical fire conditions across areas that are already burning. as far as our forecast today, it will be cool at the coast, 60s and 70s the rest of us going to be 80s and 90s with smoky sunshine. in the north bay, an area

previously under an evacuation warning has now been up graded to an evacuation order. jobina has the details on this. >> cal fire's latest update says the glass fire has now burned more than 46,000 acres and it is just 2% contained. this is new video coming into our newsroom that we're seeing here of the wildfire raging in calistoga overnight, the area west of state route 29 and highway 128 between diamond mountain road and pet are now an evacuation order. as you can tell from this video, the fire line department moving forward. fire conditions are expected to worsen in the coming days. and amy hollyfield is up in napa county this morning and we'll check in with her in the next

half hour. now one of the most clicked on stories this morning, that wild debate between president trump and joe biden. now, this morning both are returningi into the campaign many voters were wondering what they saw last night because it was chaotic. instead of policy, it relied on a lot of interruptions and personal attacks. and liz kreutz has the takeaways. >> reporter: this was a mess of a debate simply put. what was supposed to be a debate about issues and policies spiralled into a contentious and frustrating back and forth at the president repeatedly interrupted biden and moderator chris wallace. there were some moments of clarity, but not a lot. the first presidential debate between president trump and joe biden seemed anything but

and most felt yb wjob was the b prepared. let's switch gears now. restaurants and churches can begin to operate indoors again in san francisco starting today. san francisco is the first bay area county to reach the orange tier in the state's reopening planning. the new rules that go along with this is one of the things that we're tracking in our effort to build a better bay area. julian glover are julian glover is live with what we need to know. >> reporter: yeah, it's been more than six months since we've been able to walk inside a restaurant and order a meal and eat at a table indoors, but that all changes today. you will have to keep the face mask on while you are not actively eating your meal, but nonetheless restaurants in san francisco can now seat customers inside at 25% capacity or maximum of 100 people whichever is fewer.

we spoke to a restaurant owner as he spaced out the tables inside 6 feet apart. >> we are pretty happy about it, you know, but only 25%. i don't know how much we can generate with that, but at least a return to some kind of normalcy. >> reporter: so excited to be able to allow people back be indoors, but cautiously optimistic. and other changes to talk about, church services are also now allowed indoors in san francisco. same cap ap34r5plieapplies, 25% or 100. the archbishop thanked the mayor but said the 100 person limit is unjust. a couple other changes here, indoor malls can bump up capacity from 25% to 50% capacity. and movie theaters could return in a week in the numbers remain

steady. lots of changes in san francisco this morning as it moves from the red tier now to the orange tier. julian glover, abc 7 news. >> a lot of people excited about that. contra costa county is now in the red tier too. so that means that restaurants and movie theaters and places of worship can start indoors, but limited to 25% capacity. gyms can reopen but at 10% capacity. person am caal care services ca now move indoors as well. we have created an interactive map that shows you each county's status, and you can find it on abc7news.com. all right. let's talk about what is going on with our weather. specifically we'll go up to the current fire conditions in the glass fire. and look at that temperature,

11:00, it was 78. it is 77 now. it did not drop overnight. the humidity is 34%. and wind at 2 miles per hour, and that is the saving grace so far. starting at about 1:00 tomorrow afternoon through 6:00 friday evening, that all changes with the fire weather watch. in fact look at those hot temperatures, more than 100 thursday, near 100 friday, 94 saturday and then finally you can see the seabreeze kicks in sunday, monday and tuesday with temperatures falling eventually into the mid-80s and humidity levels jumping into 40% and 50%. let's talk about temperatures if you are heading out, los gatos 58, mid-40s 40 for mid-60s like yesterday. and there could be a little more smoke especially to the east bay neighborhoods and that is why

fires, everything that you need to know. let's take a look at the smoke forecast for today. you can see where that northwesterly wind is pulling north bay and starting to push it more into the east bay. those are the two areas that will have the most unhealthy air today. now, the marine layer right now is undercutting that, but you can see as we head throughout the day it will also get infected a little bit with some smoke thanks to a northwesterly wind instead of the westerly wind. it will tap into that. so here we go into tonight, and you can see we wake up tomorrow and everybody should be covered in smoke. now, the key is, will the marine layer be tomorrow morning and i don't think that it is going to be. if it is, it will be much shal will shallower than today. so keep those n95 masks on if you are heading outside.

first man who is considered to have been cured of hiv ha&-pg leukemia. timothy ray brown was the first adult with hiv to get rid of it. in 2006, he was diagnosed with leukemia, he received a bone marrow donor and for years doctors thought it cured both infection, but his leukemia returned last year and spread. he was 54. california is working to secure federal funding for b.a.r.t. because riders likely won't be able to return at least not in large numbers until next spring. the luiten nachbieutenant gover talked about the governor's executive order to phase out gas you powered cars in 15 years. >> the cost of producing a zero

their rates and allowed pets like cats and brird birds and d come along too. many left their homes fearing the worst and this morning a santa rosa couple can rest a little easier knowing their home is intact. they hiked eight miles yesterday through the skyhawk neighborhood, they sxhenktded th expected that the glass fire would destroy their home, but it was untouched. >> just relief. the anxiety that has been building up has been tremendous. >> words can't describe the emotion and what we went through and what is still yet to come and what our neighbors are facing. >> and look at this, even with all of that hardship, a moment to celebrate when they left, they took two bottles of sparkling wine from the fridge. and they popped it. abc 7 has teamed up with the red cross and tv stations across

gate bridge where we'ring for ghi and a little misty this morning. so the marine layer right now keeping us beawill build as wet today and especially tomorrow when the fire conditions will get their most critical and lasting through most of the day friday and then really from all ever that will come this weekend. and here is our area of high pressure, you can see it is to the north and that is not good, it means with the clockwise flow, it is tarting to draw up more of that heat from the desert and that is why you are seeing temperatures reach the upper 90s in morgan hill and gilroy. more smoke and more heat today. we'll have low 70s along the coast today, to near 80 in downtown and south san francisco and sausalito. look at those low to upper 90s through the north bay, 83 in richmond, 87 in fremont.

and 96 to 101 in the east bay valleys. but tonight it won't be nearly as mild as it has been. but see the yellows and oranges? those are 70s and 80s. that is how hot it will be in the hills. and that is what jump-starts our critical fire conditions that will last through friday. you can see by saturday, fingers crossed, cooler air will be here for sure, but will it be enough to get rid of the smoke. right now it looks like it will and temperatures back in the 60s, 70s and 80s by next week. have a good one. and we're waiting to see if the nfl's first covid-19 cases will end up impacting the season. the tennessee titans and minnesota vikings have suspended in-person activities through friday plarsnd fivetaff members tested positive. parent teams are working with infectious disease experts on tracing and performing more

mitigate these natural disasters, but as far as how to do that, it does not look like they could disagree more. president trump called out california, he blamed the wildfires on poor forest management and said more needs to be done to clear dead trees. >> every year i get the call, california is bunnin iburning. if that was cleaned, if you had forest management, good forest management, you wouldn't be getting those calls. >> we spend billions of dollars now on floods, hurricane, rising seas. we're in real trouble. >> and while by kbiden did not mention the wildfires, but he brought up storms and storms and need green jobs. and so did the debate help undecided voters?

there. and amy hollyfield is in lisz toe calistoga. >> reporter: and firefighters are still working hard to find this video. we have video from overnight, crews responded to a burning home in the deer park area. and day four of this fire and homes are still burning. this fire is still a huge threat, that is why officials have issued another evacuation order, this one for the town of anquin east of calistoga. >> a lot of times they couldn't get back in. and so people don't want to leave their homes if they can't get back to see 3wwhat is going on. i want to be here. >>reporter: there is more video

try to stay inside if you are on a ferry. and let's go to the glass fire. conditions go from bad to worse. it is hot, dry, but it is not breezy, but that changes tomorrow and friday. saturday it starts t su monda fi conditions will taper rather rapidly. so we've got about 72 hour time frame where those firefighters will just be exhausted and dehydrated and they have to watch their own body as much as they are trying to watc our homes and businesses. so here we are thursday at noon and watch those winds ramp up as we head into thursday night, gusting up to 30. and during the overnight hours, they will stay up there. so be prepared to evacuate if you live in the north bay, have your kits ready in case these fires explosively expand because of these critical fire conditions.

let's switch now and talk about the morning commute. as we take a look at the map here, overall the bay area is moving very smoothly on our roads. we do have our usual slow spot out of tracy. so i wanted to update everyone on the road closures due to the fires. highway 12 in between mission boulevard and arnold drive is completely shut down. also northbound and southbound highway 29 between deer mark road and so please avoid the area. and taking a live look outside showing you the bay bridge toll plaza where metering lights are not on yet this morning, but it is starting to get pretty business sis ove

let's take a look look at that, it is 58, amounts mi a little misz a mist and drizzle at pier 5. and bewe'll go into some smoke d haze this afternoon. and right now outside of ukiah and will hair. here is a look at the forecast and as we head throughout the day, you can see it spreading into the east bay by the evening hours. overnight, look at that, we could wake up tomorrow with some of our worst air quality and it is possible that will linger the entire day.

tomorrow will also be our httest day, record highs possible and we'll talk about that coming up. some encouraging news in the race for a covid-19 vaccine. a new study finds moderna's vaccine appears to be safe. joe bnbina has more. >> yeah, researchers say older adults who received two injections of the moderna vaccine produced antibodies similar to what researchers are seeing in younger adults. the study found older adults had side effects including headache and fatigue, results between the two age groups are good because first rk, older risk. moderna is testing already a higher dose of its vaccine in a large phase three trial and that is the final stage before seeking emergency authorization or approval.

new this morning, students and staff in palo alto are one step closer to in-pso learningchool board voted in fa of this after several hours of debate last night. the plan calls for staggering the return of elementary school students beginning in less than two weeks. middle and high school students would go back in january. some board members went into what other nearby cities are doing. >> let's try it now while we have the ways to stretch out and see how we can get it to work. >> parents have the option to choose between distance learning or in-person classes. they don't make a selection, the default will be distance learning. uc berkeley will continue online schooling for the spring semester. some in-person courses will be offered, but they will start online and then be limited to 25

people. students will not be required to take laes or be present for the semester. and a dog rescued after a fire is now riding with a local fire crew. firefighters say the dog came out near one of the homes they were protecting. look at this sweet boy. they gave him water and he has just been hanging out with them ever since. firefighters say they plan on keeping him safe with them until they can get him to animal control, although i have a feeling that he will go home with one of the firefighters. how could you give up this boy. a california cinematographer is using a new tech to help reunite pets with their owners. he uses an infrared drone to spot animals on the ground in disaster zones. his work began during a
