the world is talking about. president trump and the first lady have tested positive, that new coming in a tweet from the president just before 1:00 in the morning on east coast. >> and so it is unclear if the president and the first lady are experiencing any symptoms. what we do know is that hope hicks a top aide is experiencing symptoms, she is one advisers. and about the president's schedule, he had a rally in florida tonight, that has been canceled. and at this point, the only thing on the president's agenda today is a phone call talking about covid-19 support for vulnerable seniors. we're also keeping a close eye on reaction from democratic rival joe biden, a cnn source says that he plans to get tested today, but there is no official word from the cam paikacampaign. the two met face-to-face in the

debate in cleveland on wednesday, there is no word yet on how this could impact the next presidential debate, that is set to happen in a week and a half on october 15. here is alex presha. >> reporter: and hicks travels with him often including multiple times this week. this morning the coronavirus pandemic reaching the oval office, president trump tweeting overnight the first lady and i tested positive for covid-19. we will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. we will get through this together. the first lady adding, as too many americans have done this year, the president and i are quarantining at home. please be sure that you are staying safe and we'll get through this together. the white house position saying that both are well and they plan to remain at home within the white house. late thursday, president trump announced plans to quarantine after one of his closest advisers hope hicks tested positive for the coronavirus. sources telling abc news hicks is experiencing symptoms. the president saying this on fox news -- >> you know hope very well.

pandemic, more than 7 million people have been diagnosed with the coronavirus in the u.s. and more than 207,000 have died. there is also the question of what does it did to the trump campaign. the white house released a revised schedule that the appearance in florida has been canceled. alex presha, abc news, washington. and president trump often touts his robust health. and dr. jennifer ashton says though nobody is immune to covid-19. the president is 74 years old and that makes him more vulnerable to the disease. >> this virus does not diskrichl nature and just because you have great doctors and you live in the white house doesn't mean that the virus stops at the front door and then turns around. this will be the diagnosis heard around the world in terms of, you know, when someone this well-known is infected with a medical or health crisis, there is an intrinsic opportunity here. and so whether or not wield se'

speededdy recovelse's speedy recovery. >> and as long as the president stays asymptomatic and relatively healthy, she is confident that he will continue to lead the country. with just 31 days until election day, the diagnosis may pose political challenges to his campaign. jobina is tracking that part of the story. >> yes, there are a lot of questions this morning, but what we do know is that this diagnosis will impact the president on the campaign trail. he has already canceled his appearance in florida. we're also learning here that trump is scheduled to attend fundraisers in southern california next beak, and could impact his scheduled debate with joe biden on october 15th. all of this. so some political analysts say his re-election bided may emaye affected by how he gets through the illness. if he becomes seriously ill, it could hurt his chances, but if

the president has a mild case and recovers, it could re-energize the president and h supporters. >> and we sent out this push alert as soon as the president confirmed that he had covid-19 last night. you can get alerts like this right to your phone, just download the abc 7 news app. now to developing news in the north bay, a red flag warning is in effect and strong winds could have significant impact on the glass fire. it has burned close to 59,000 acres and only 5% contained. cal fire revealed the fire has destroyed 220 homes since it started on sunday. and two more areas were issued evacuation orders include all areas of napa county north of calistoga and from whitehall lane to the bella oaks area, that is where many of the mostefmost famous wineries where located. now let's bring in mike nicco

for the latest on this red flag warning. >> at you know if you were with us yesterday or following us on line or on your phone, the fire danger was extended through 6:00 tomorrow morning. still includes the north bay, the east bay hills, diablo range and also the santa cruz mountains. we have the gusty north/northwest winds, very dry air, very warm air especially overnight. and we could have some jumping of the fires once again. let's take a look at the critical fire danger index. and it is not so high this morning, but once the winds pick up, you can see in the diablo range and in the north bay, we get high to very high for a few hours and then it will taper a little bit overnight. and tomorrow morning we'll get one more burst of some winds and that is why we have fire dachker through tomorrow morning. for all of us outside of the coast, we've got the heat index today, that could reach well over 100. moderate risk of heat illness

through at least 8:00 this evening. we do have big changes coming this weekend, at least temperature-wise, not so much smoke-wise. people in the berkeley hills are concerned about the red flag warning. some are already preparing to leave if told to. because the streets are so narrow, the city is asking people to park in their garage or driveways so that emergency vehicles can get through just in case. >> so i'm turning the car backwards into the driveway so it can be pointing out. >> and for this season, i'm always very nervous. and i don't know how much longer i want to live like this. it is getting worse and worse. >> in some neighborhoods, it will be faster to use foot paths versus city streets in case of an evacuation order. we found one frustrated woman who just evacuated from sonoma and now facing the possibility of having to pack up yet again. governor newsom got an up close look at some of the

destruction caused bay the glass fi fir he met with cal fire chiefs and local leaders to hear about the ongoing firefight. the governor says resources have been calmed in from around the country to help bring the fire under control. >> it is a scene very familiar with people in the napa and sonoma regions that have been torn asunder by wild fires seemingly every sinkgle year. >> he calls this year's season historic with close to 4 million acres of the state burned just in 2020. you can get updates on our weather and our fires any time. we have a wildfire tracker that gives you the latest information on the fires now burning in the state, as well as the latest air quality data. you can see it at abc7news.com. definitely want to keep an eye on that when you are away from talking with us because the air quality we're waking up to is poor to unhealthy for all of us. here we start in the north bay,

santa rosa, san rafael, that is poor for the sensitive groups. but napa, fair field, vacaville, concord, oklahoma, livermoakoakh unhealthy for everybody. most of us were in the red just an hour ago, but some places seeing just a drop down to poor. and san jose is also unhealthy along with the santa cruz mountains. and as you look outside, you can see some of the haze hanging in the air. unfortunately that is not the marine layer and that is not the correct graphic. what i was going to show you is we are under a spare the air alert all the way through tuesday of next week. so we have to get through today, tomorrow, sunday, monday, tuesday, five more days of smoky skies. temperatures right now, it is 75 in daly city, that has to be up a couple hundred feet because down below everybody else is around 59 to 65.

engulfed in flames. bringing in a live camera now of san rafael looking at 101 here once you get passed all that, you can see that it is a clear ride further south. new toll lanes on interstate 880 are opening today, there is one southbound lane that begins drivers must have fasttrack to use the express lanes between 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. tolls vary based on the level of traffic. alameda county is giving the green light for more businesses and schools to open later this month. it will be on october 9, but with capacity limits. hotels can start welcoming guests for tourism and then october 13th, elementary schools can reopen for in-person classes, however, schools have to get approval first. the county said that it would

that lingers through tuesday. it is exhausting, isn't it? but hopefully next week we'll see a significant change in the pattern and autumn cool weather will arrive. here is a look at your smoke forecast and you can see along the coast tomorrow a little bit of a break as a little bit of a seabreeze starts to develop. sunday we have some areas where at times it won't be sheetly smoky like today, but then look at monday, we shut the door on that and even tuesday, we're looking at a little bit of clearing late into the afternoon hours. around the state today, it will be smoky and almost as hot, no flex alert today like there was yesterday. we've learned that vice president mike pence has tested negative for covid-19. his press secretary says that this morning vice president pence and second lady tested negative for covid-19. vice president pence remains in good health and wishes the

trumps well in their recovery. it is unclear right now what the next step is for the pences. the cdc recommends that people stay at home for 14 days after having close exposure with someone who has tested positive. the news about the vice president comes as the president and first lady are staying at the white house isolated after they tested positive. the diagnosis came just a day after this rally in minnesota where you can see the president was throwing hats out to the crowd. this is the memo the president's physician dr. connelly released last night, it says in part the president and first lady are both well at this time and they plan to remain at homen with the white house during their convalescence. i expect the president to continue carrying out his duties bought disruption while recovering. it is unclear if the president or the first lady are showing any symptoms. president trump has been downplaying the threat of the coronavirus for months now. jon karl weighed in on the president's words and actions.

thursday a next tlu thursday and friday. and a look at the fog forecast, there isn't much, but along the coast it will keep you in the 60s and 70s while the rest of us are in the 80s and 90s. but it starts to spread inland during the evening hours. so there could be a touch of cooler weather this evening especially compared to last evening. otherwise low to upper 90s in the south bay today, 84 to 91, 92 on the peninsula, 80s in downtown, south san francisco and sausalito. mid to upper 90s through the north bay valley, along the east bay shore, 84 to 93. and lastly, 100 in the east bay valleys. my accuweather 7 day forecast, temperatures in the 60s and 70s possibly by wednesday. got my fingers crossed.

and the first lady are both isolating at the white house. we don't know if any symptoms that they are showing at this point. all president trump's events have been canceled for today except a phone call on covid-19. vice president mike pence and his wife have tested negative and joe biden is planning to get tested today after being with the president at the debate earlier this week. julian glover is live with the very latest. >> reporter: good morning. reaction coming in from all across the world waking up to the news that the president who has long down played the severity of covid-19 has now tested positive, tweeting the news that he and the first lady tested positive for covid-19 just before 1:00 a.m. on the east coast, 10:00 on the west. the first lady also fired off a tweet saying that the two are quarantining at the white house and feeling good. the president at 74 years old is considered to be at high risk of severe covid complications.

there is an economic impact here, markets in asia and europe have opened down, reacting to the news. of course we'll be watching what happens when the markets open here in the u.s. but nonetheless, a make shakeup just 31 days to the presidential election. jared kushne julian glover, abc 7 news. and dr. patel says that this is just a reminder of how contagious coronavirus is. >> i would imagine the white house dakt tracontact tracers w working on lightning rapid pace right now looking at everyone that hope hicks, the president, the first ladies all have been in dakt with over t contact with the past two days. because remember 48 hours before symptoms, you can still be contagious. and there are a lot of people in the white house, on air force o one, in his office. so there will be a lot of phone calls being made and we'll have to see what happens. because potentially a lot of people will need repeated testing and to be quarantined.

temperatures in the fire zone. cal fire says that they expect fire activity to increase under the red flag warning. let's check in with mike new for the latest on that. >> yeah, the red flag warning continues until 6:00 tomorrow morning. there will be a slight burst of winds tomorrow afternoon, so interesting to see if they take into account if the winds are fast enough to meet the criteria. right now 6:00 in the morning know that during the overnight hour, evacuation orders could be ordered. not as likely as the winds will be fastest during the day, but still possible that we could have ember displacement or jumping from the fires and they would jump from north to south because the winds are blowing from northwest to southeast. so we're red in the north bay mountains, east bay hills, diablo range and santa cruz mountains. for the rest of us, it will be another hot day away from the coast with 90s and 100s in our put. and that is a moderate risk of heat illness.

you know what saves us getting too hot? all that smoke, it blocks some of the sunshine. it could be three to five degrees warmer if we didn't have that smoke. so there is your silver lining? >> hard to see it that way, but i know what you're saying. thank you. and this is day six of the glass fire and it is still largely burning out of control. sadly we continue to still watch these homes burn. amy hollyfield is in calistoga again for us this morning. >> reporter: and this fire continues to destroy. look at this home behind me in a wooded area of calistoga, it caught fire overnight. we do have video of that fire, this happened on tucker road, it was at about 1:30 this morning. we are south of the downtown of calistoga. and there are a fau othew others

tucked back here and firefighters did save those homes. but about 220 homes in total in napa and snoeconoma counties ha burned since sunday morning. firefighters were focused on the fire overnight burning around calistoga and angwin. crews could be seen working along highway 29, ready to keep the fire from jumping the highway. so really taking a stance there. they will be dealing with the red flag warning today and the weather that comes with it, all the way through tomorrow morning. but i did check with this crew here on the scene and asked them how overnight went and they said that the weather was actually in their favor, those winds about being a responsible fapossible materialize. so they felt like overall the weather was receipt cooperative and they had an okay night as far as that part of the firefight. but just one more example of

heartache and devastation of what this fire continues to do. it has been burning since sunday morning. amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. and yeah, we talked about that a little bit yesterday, it was looking like the evening hours would have the faster winds and they would lay down a little bit if you will during the overnight hours and here we go, we're only 17 in knoxville, and you can see the winds are fairly light everywhere across the north bay. they come ramp around to 20 and 23, but we'll take that over 40s, 50s and 60s that were possible. but bad news for napa. you just switched from unhealthy to very unhealthy air qua qua qa we have, very b very, very bad. oranges are okay for most of us, but sensitive groups absolutely need to stay inside. but the red in concord and also in oaklan and livermore and san jose and santa cruz, that is

unhealthy for everybody. so light winds, stagnant air that allowed the smoke to build as the dolan and glass fires continue to just pump through tabts in pollutants into the air. and look at that, all the way through tuesday we'll have unhealthy air. but i think that tuesday is a strong definitive cutoff. right now look at the 60s along the east bay shore, temperatures mild this morning from 54 in santa rosa to 75 in pacifica. for your commute, you can see the haze from the bay bridge toll plaza. it is all about staying cool when it is hot and finding clean air if you have to be outside for any length of time. we'll talk about the big changes this weekend and next week coming up in the 7 day forecast. and now let's send it over to jobina who is watching an accident in the north bay. >> yes, we do have to report this this morning, we have a

deadly crash in pet laluma. this is southbound 101 before the east washington on-ramp. all lanes are currently shut down, that is why you see the purple line there. so please be aware, you will be diverted off and then you can get back on 101 and it is a clear ride as you continue south. moving to the east bay you now, in oakland, we have road work in between 23rd and 29 tth avenue 880 that will hopefully be picked up shortly. but slow northbound. and as we head to break, i want to show you walnut creek. 680 has been -- actually, let's look at san rafael.

let's look at the fire weather index. what you will see is things are pretty quiet this morning. green and blue are good, that is low to moderate and that is because the winds were calm during the overnight. still warm and dry. relative humidity down in the teens. but look what happens when the winds pick up during the afternoon and evening hours. we explode to high to very high it does taper a little bit as we head towards tomorrow morning, but another birs of winds tomorrow afternoon and you can see the yellow returns to the north bay and even some very high during the evening hours. so we'll see if they extend the red flag warning. here is a look at your smoke forecast. tomorrow almost exactly like this morning, but during the afternoon, a little bit of a break at the coast. and pockets of cleaner air sunday and into monday morning, and then look monday into tuesday, the smoke covers us once again and it will linger

through at least early wednesday and then we see the signs of change. and we have breaking news, new information about the president's condition after being diagnosed with covid-19. abc news sources say that the president cut a wednesday night rally short because he wasn't, quote, feeling his best as he appeared exhausted and fatigued. news of the president's diagnosis and a stimulus stalemate that is continuing in washington sent stock futures in the u.s. down overnight. and minutes ago, we got the september jobs report. here is jobina with more on that. >> yes, the bureau of labor statistics just released the latest monthly jobs report, this will be the last one released before next month's election. afrnt t and the unploumt rate dropped to 7.9%. forecast was 8.2%. the jobless rate was 8.4% in
