feel refreshing, cooler. the air is clean now. look at that yellow and green. up in the north bay, the green down to the south bay. we have the possibility of still some smoke being thick from the fires up north. but look at this. this is mainly fog this morning. the visibility is dangerous along 101 all the wayn t down into half moon bay. so we have to watch out for that during the morning commute. here's sutro tower. you can see that creeping across san francisco. temperatures in the 50s right now. as we head into noon, we're at 60s. at the coast, still cloud cover there. 70s and 80s. you can see at 4:00. 60s at the coast. 70s, 80s and 90s for the rest of us. president trump is up and tweeting sending out nearly 20 messages from his hospital room early this morning. he could be released from walter reed as soon as today as his covid-19 treatment continues.

but it was this ride that the president took in his motorcade on sunday that is raising questions about the possibility of those closest to him having to quarantine. abc7 news reporter julian glover is live this morning with what a specialist at ucf is saying about that ride and how the president may be doing. >> yes. good morning. as we see from the president's twitter, he appears to be up, firing off a number of tweets this morning. 18 in the last hour. in all caps touting accomplishments and telling people to vote. as doctors have been telling us time and time again because he's feeling better and may be on the mend does not mean he's out of the woods just yet. the president is on a cocktail of drugs including remdesivir, antibodies to the virus and steroids. he appears to be off from oxygen from the pictures and the video you're seeing here of president trump leaving walter reed to ride in the presidential motorcade and wave at supporters. that's now raising questions about how serious the president

is taking his diagnosis. we spoke to ucfs's infectious disease specialist who said it was not a great idea for the president at the peak of being contagious to exit the hospital and put several others for risk at exposure. particularly the secret service agents inside of that air-tight motorcade with him. >> it's not even like our car, it's sealed against all sorts of chemical attacks. it's bulletproof. you can see when you look at the footage that the window is not even cracked open. it puts everyone at unnecessary risk inside the car not to mention people he might have interacted with on the way to his car. >> according to the president's doctors, his condition continues to improve and it appears from the surprise presidential photo-op he appears to be in good spirits. however doctors have repeatedly said the next 7 to 10 days are absolutely critical in monitoring the president's

recovery. reporting live this morning, julian glover, abc7 news. >> thank you. this morning we are also hearing from a physician at walter reed medical center. he's raised concerns about the president's drive-by saying that he may have unnecessarily exposed secret service members to that virus for political theater. doctor james phillips is not a part of the president's care team but he has treated covid-19 patients. this morning on "gma" he said he's concerned that his colleagues at walter reed may have been pressured into allowing the drive-by. >> so far as the military and johns hopkins physicians who ar they're excellent. but they are also under undue pressure and a lot of influence outside of that normal physician/patient relationship. >> you can watch this entire interview with dr. phillips. that's coming up on "gma" which starts at 7:00 after abc7 news mornings. joe biden is on the campaign trail again in florida after testing negative for covid-19.

he says he's looking forward to debate number two with president trump. it's still too early to know if that's going to happen. >> reporter: this morning president trump's coronavirus diagnosis dramatically upended the strategy for both campaigns with less than 30 days until the election. a new poll says the president did not take the risk of covid seriously enough and did not take precautions when it came to his health. his campaign pushed back. >> we take this seriously. that's why we give everyone a mask. we check their temperature. >> reporter: joe biden's campaign pulled negative adds about the president following news of his covid diagnosis and is promising to release the

results of every covid-19 test that biden takes. >> the coronavirus has overtaken every corner of american life. it's made it so we cannot send our kids to school. it's shuttering small businesses. americans are worried. they look to joe biden for leadership. >> reporter: it's now unclear if the second presidential debate will go on as planned. but the candidates running mates are gearing up for their own debate wednesday night. sources tell abc news that senator kamala harris and vice president mike pence will sit 12 feet apart after the biden campaign requested more space during their debate. happening today, we're expecting to hear from governor newsom. he will hold a press conference at noon to update the public on the covid-19 pandemic and the wildfire situation. the governor's office says he has a special announcement to make today. you can watch the governor's update live here on abc7 news. we will also stream it on our

news app and at abc7news.com. developing news now on the glass fire still burning in napa and sonoma counties. the cause of that fire remains under investigation as it now closes in on 65,000 acres burned. here's the latest information from cal fire. so far it's 26% contained. more than 800 buildings have been destroyed. at least 500 of those were homes. crews estimate nearly 22,000 structures are still threatened and more than 36,000 people are still out of their houses this morning. the grass fire is forcing more people out of their homes in napa county. cal fire made oers mandatory along the stretch of highway 29 in st. helena. video shows how far the hot spots have spread. dry brush is giving the fire some new life. thousands of people waiting for any bit of good news. a winery stepped up to offer free lunches. >> everyone has to do their part

all levels of the atmosphere will be cleaned out by thursday. hopefully that will help put out some fires friday and saturday with that chance of rain we'll talk about coming up next in the accuweather seven-day forecast. reggie? >> thank you. we learned a man killed in a shooting in san francisco's union square was wanted for an armed home invasion robbery in fremont. this is video from the shooting scene near stockton and geary last thursday. the man who was killed, 21-year-old vermond jones, was trying to rob someone. police were searching for jones since may. he was one of three people believed to be involved in that violent home invasion. a memorial service set up outside the white house over the weekend mourns the lost to covid-19. 20,000 chairs, each representing 20 americans killed by coronavirus were lined up along the ellipsis. the covid survivors for change

network declared sunday a national day of remembrance. in the north bay some students are getting ready to go back to class for the first time since march. it's going to be four public school districts in marin reopening for in-person learning today. that includes schools in largesburg, reed union, miller creek and kemp field. teachers say they're so excited to welcome back students and they're even decorating the hallways with balloons. they say they want to make it comfortable, fun and show kids how much they missed them. new this morning, a huge honor for a california scientist who won the nobel prize in medicine. jobina is tck announcement from the live desk. >> yes. the prestigious prize for the discovery of the hepatitis c virus is going to three scientists. one of them hailing from northern california. dr. charles rice was born in sacramento and graduated from uc davis. rice was given the award along with america researcher harvey

altar and british scientist michael hotton. the nobel prize committee said their discoveries ultimately saved millions of lives. hepatitis c is a common cause of liver cancer. dr. rice received his bachelor's degree from uc davis in 1974 and earned his ph.d. from the california institute of technology in 1981. the nobel committee says thanks to their discovery blood tests for the virus are now available. >> congratulations. a dog whose big sister won't let him through the gate in the front yard found a creative way to see what's going on. this is max. neighbors walking past him took a video of his head popping up over the wall. they thought max maybe had a trampoline on the other side and that's how he got so much air. max is just a gifted jumper. >> we just see him pop up every

we expect that this time of year. 60s along the coast to 70 in san francisco. 70s and 80s around the bay, 80s in the north bay and south bay and 90s inland. that will go away. i'll show you more on that coming up. >> thank you. we are a little more than a week into the fight against the glass fire. the news is mixed. containment is certainly up. so that's good. hundreds of homes are already gone and there are many more still possibly threatened. the good news is some people are being allowed back into their homes after they made the escape a week ago. amy hollyfield is live for us in sonoma county this morning. >> good morning. we're in santa rosa. this neighborhood behind me has been cleared to return home. the fire reached the oakmont neighborhood in santa rosa, it did damage some homes last week. the evacu lifted yesterday. as residents return home they

that's available at abc7news.com and our abc7 news app. president trump could be released from the hospital as soon as today. this is according to his doctors latest statement. right now we want to take you live to walter reed this morning where the president is being treated, but this morning there's some growing outrage over his impromptu visit with supporters outside the hospital. as alex presha tells us, a physician at walter reed is calling it insanity. >> reporter: overnight, growing outrage over this, president trump breaking his quarantine at walter reed sunday to do a drive by for his supporters. he's there in the back seat waving and wearing a mask. the others in the suv exposed as health experts say the president is likely still contagious. the white house insisting in a statement that appropriate precautions were taken including ppe and that the movement was cleared by the medical team as safe to do. but dr. james phillips, a walter

reed attending physician blasted the stunt tweeting every single person in the vehicle during that completely unnecessary presidential drive-by right now has to be quarantined for 14 days. they might get sick, they may die for political theater. this is insanity. >> reporter: the cdc says any movement of a hospitalized covid patient outside their room should only be done for medically essential purposes. the president after spending the weekend in the hospital now saying this about the virus. >> as the president seeks to project an image of strength, americans are being offered a puzzling and even grim picture of the president's health. on saturday, white house doctors denied the president needed oxygen. >> yesterday and today he was not on oxygen. >> reporter: now connelly says

he did administer oxygen twice, including on friday when his blood oxygen levels dropped twice. there are also questions about how and when the president caught covid. last week's rose garden announcement of a supreme court pick, amy coney barrett a possible super spreader event. so far nine people in attendance have tested positive. and five out of nine people on his debate team tested positive too. joe biden says he now will release the results of every test he takes. and kamala harris will debate mike pence on wednesday. sources tell abc news that they will sit 12 feet apart after the biden campaign requested more space. this morning we're hearing from rudy giuliani. he helped the president prep for last week's debate. jobina fortson has more on this. >> rudy giuliani spoke on "gma" today, this morning. he said he's been tested for

free abc7 news app. new this morning, the world health organization now estimates 10% of the world's population may have been infected with coronavirus. right now in the u.s. and overseas covid-19 spikes are causing reopening rollbacks. johns hopkins university reported more than 54,000 positive cases on friday. that's america's highest single day total since mid-august. new york city's mayor wants business shutdowns in nine zip codes across brooklyn and queens because there are outbreaks there. in paris, all bars will shut down tomorrow as the city's coronavirus alert is raised to the max. and in san francisco officials are discouraging trick or treating this halloween suggesting virtual costume parties instead. election day is just over four weeks away. today san francisco is opening an outdoor voting venue. so here's what it looks like now at civic center plaza.

i'm bringing in an overall look at the map here. you can see how concentrated it is over the north bay, impacting 101 especially and on the peninsula as well. also bringing in here our live camera. i want to check out what the san rafael camera is looking like. this is 101 in the area. it looks good, but if you see emeryvil emeryville, for example, or even the golden gate bridge, it's really fogged in. i will take a live look now showing you the bay bridge toll plaza, meteri ining lights are officially on. they came on at 5:28 this morning. you can see the fog lingering on that camera. i'll keep you posted on how everything is moving at the toll plaza. once you make it through those lights

you come into san francisco. increasing fog towards the coast and at the golden gate bridge. most of us in the 50s. you will find a few 40s along the coast and in the north bay valleys with thicker fog there. temperatures by noon, 60s at the coast because of the cloud cover, 70 to near 80 around the bay. even those temperatures are closer to average. 80s and 90s this afternoon, a nice evening on the way. 60s and 70s. today and tomorrow the most likely area for unhealthy air is across the north bay, wednesday and thursday that changes. what you'll see is the marine layer undercut the smoke. you can see there's still plenty of smoke in the middle parts of the atmosphere from time to time whether it's today, tomorrow or wednesday. it's not until we get the wholesale change in the atmosphere thursday when we get those 60s and 70 degree highs that the air will be completely smoke-free. reggie? >> mike, thank you. want to be on the lookout for a uc berkeley student who has been reported missing. she's from chapel hill, north
