san francisco unified dropped a bombshell proposal, they switched an elite high school's process to a lottery system. kate larson spoke with emotional parents anda school board member about what the future may hold for lowell high school. >> reporter: the school is a nationally recognized school. currently students are admitted based on grades and test scores. because of the pandemic, grades and scores have mostly been eliminated the proposal is that all entering freshman would have an equal opportunity to attend through the public school lottery system.

hope that happens. well, italian heritage week kicked off in san francisco this evening. ♪ a singer serenaded people in washington square with italy's national anthem, many of the year's activities of course will be virtual because of the pandemic. that includes an online celebration to replace the traditional parade through north beach on sunday. the annual outdoor cinema season kicked off tonight in san francisco. due to covid-19, it's a drive in affair at the market plaza. people came in their cars to watch different short stories. movie goers were encouraged to bring take-outs from local restaurants another screening is next friday, it's free but online reservations were required. it looks like a perfect night for a outdoor movie. >> that is fun, i love that idea. we have the weekend weather for you. >> yeah, and the weekend weather looks fantastic.

i remember those drive-in movie theater type things those are fun. i want to show you a time lapse of why the weather was just so comfortable today. take a look from the mount t a am cam, we had a nice marine layer going. deep in to 3,000 feet and then a system went in to southern california, mixed out that marine layer and broke it all up and kept the temperatures in the low 60s to mid 70s for most of the bay area. taking a look at a second system that is pushing in to the pacific northwest. and it is going to continue to advance to the east, but what's going to happen is it will squeeze out a little drizzle, maybe a few sprinkles as we head towards tomorrow morning.we hav. we have the north bay right now, temperatures anywhere from the mid 50s to mid 60s and the air quality, this has been the biggest story which has been so good today. everyone in the green right now. so, enjoy the fresh air, because

it's not going to last forever. here's the hour by hour forecast. the smoke forecast that is. less smoke expected for your saturday. sunday things change because we see a shift in in the wind direction coming more out of the north. that drives the smoke in. you will start to see the oranges and the pinks showing up. which is, deteriorating air quality unfortunately for the second half of your weekend. spare the air is in affect through tomorrow, because of the glass fire, poor air quality in the north bay. good for the rest of the region. you will notice sunday through tuesday. moderate air quality and i would expect the spare the air will get extended. well it is socked in from the emery ville camera, but sprinkles and a stray shower tomorrow, warmer sunday and we are looking at dry, gusty off shore winds sunday in to monday. hour by hour forecast showing you the sprinkles around the north bay at 7-9:a.m. as we head in the afternoon, can't rule out drizzle or sprinkles and going in the evening.
