let's get them out of the way right now. the fire danger we thought would end before lunch. national weather service extended the red flag warning through 6:00 this evening. the heat will be just as brutal today as it was yesterday with 90s at the coast to a few 100s inland. a moderate to high risk of heat illness. there's a couple more asterisks on the map this morning as the high temperatures will be just as warm if not warmer, and the record highs are cooler today than they were yesterday. so we have 90 at half moon bay and san francisco. nearly 100 in antioch, fairfield and ukiah. >> thanks, mike. >> pg&e is expected to restore power by 10:00 tonight depending on the weather. this morning thousands of people in northern california are still in the dark from the public safety power shutoff that started on wednesday. so the pink triangles that you

see on the map, those indicate the outages. abc7 news reporter anser hassan is live in sonoma with more on this. >> good morning, kumasi. this neighborhood in sonoma is without power. if you look up, you can see the power lines and trees are part of the reason why pg&e is so concerned about neighborhoods like this one. the utility company cut power throughout the state due to the threat of wildfires. in the north bay, close to 7,000 customers have been left in the dark. though the strongest winds of the week have passed, temperatures are expected to reechl treach the upper 90s today. the north bay still faces dangerous fire weather conditions. many are trying to coast the best way they can. >> if it prevents fires, anything will help. we're still not in a safe zone yet at all. we have not been getting rains, it's still hot. the winds are high. it's still a risk, if they shut

scientists with the cdc are accusing the trump administration of installing two political operatives within the agency to try to control information. they were assigned to the cdc's atlanta headquarters in june despite having no public health background. both were tasked with watching dr. robert redfield, the agency's director and other scientists there. the associated press, which is investigating this story says congress is now investigating the pair. >> numerous examples of the administration's attempts to shelve scientific guidance coming out of the cdc or to change or gain editorial control over scientific publications. >> a number of administration officials corroborated the story with the associated press on the condition they remain anonymous. president trump is denying california's request for wildfire assistance. coming up how governor newsom plans to move forward. plus the reason why dozens of san francisco schools are reportedly considering a name

welcome to the warmest morning moving forward. there are some spots that are cool. look at this in the north bay along 101, temperatures are in the 50s until you get to the mill valley, 72. we have an 80 right now in alameda. an 81 in half moon bay. we have blast furnace-like winds blowing through those areas. wind is still an issue, 35 miles per hour to 45 miles per hour. relative humidities in the teens. that's why the red flag warning continues. tropical storm-force winds, 39-mile-per-hour gusts at half moon bay. humidity levels in the 20s, 30s and 40s. it is usually the highest elevations, you can see that's where we have the very high to extreme fire conditions. extreme moves up to the north

governor was seeking help to cover damages from recent wildfires. governor newsom estimated the financial assistance need at 0 $200 million from that fire alone. in total he asked for $346 million to cover all six fires. president trump had previously threatened to withhold wildfire assistance from california saying the state has not done enough to manage its forests, but it's worth noting here that the federal government controls 57% of the state's forested land. a spokesperson for the governor's office says the priority is finding other programs to apply for aid. >> thank you. oakland has joined with portland to file a lawsuit alleging the trump administration unlawfully deployed federal agents to their cities. the agents were sent in following protests over the killing of george floyd. the trump administration said they were protecting federal property. lawyers for both the city say

the agents physically hurt peaceful protesters and made local police work more difficult. a department of homeland security spokesperson calls the lawsuit meritless. developing news on the search for a missing lemur from the san francisco zoo. maki has been found. so a 5-year-old actually spotted this 21-year-old lemur outside hope lutheran day school. maki was reported missing on wednesday. zoo keepers found evidence of forced entry and damage to the enclosure. police are investigating, but when james spotted him at the school he knew exactly what to do. >> call the zookeeper. >> what did the lemur look like? >> a lemur. gray, black and white. i like the way they look. >> he is the best part of this story. my gosh. so san francisco zoo has promised james that he can have a lifetime membership when it's

doing it right for seven months and avoided the virus. i let my guard down for a couple of days inside the white house grounds and it cost me in a significant way. >> thankfully he has made a full recovery. you can see his interview on "gma" coming up at 7:00. christie says the white house did not do any contact tracing with him after he was hospitalized his local county board of health in new jersey did. new this morning, pfizer has released new details on the timeline for its covid-19 vaccine and it could be ready to apply for emergency use authorization by late november. the drugmaker will petition the food and drug administration once it gets the next round of data on the vaccine's effectiveness and drug safety. if both sets of data are positive, pfizer can move forward. pfizer's chief executive wrote an open later on the process saying based on our current trial enrollment and dosing pace we estimate we will reach this milestone in the third week of november.

because of the trump administration argued they needed more time to calculate the data. san jose police and county mental health professionals are teaming up in an effort to save lives. mobile crisis response team clinicians will have access to a specially trained team of officers for psychiatric emergencies. the arrangement could reduce response times and diffuse dangerous situations. some people wonder if the program will work including sharon watkins, the mother of phillip watkins who died five years after being shot by a police officer during a mental distress call. >> a family member can give you information about the person that is having that mental crisis about what they know about that person. what's important to that person. maybe even why some clues as to why they're having this mental breakdown. >> san jose police believe this is an opportunity for police reform. we can help you find your ally whether it's help with mental health issues or other
