conditions through 5:00 this afternoon. current conditions we're gusting around 25 to 35 still across the north bay mountains and the east bay hills around 20 and with humidity levels running in the teen teens, yep, that's rapid spread of them. let's hope that doesn't happen. the by-product of that this afternoon, look at the 80s across the north bay and concord and mid to upper 70s else where. another warm day. happening now, pg&e is in the process of restoring power to thousands of customers this morning. jobina tracking all of this from the live desk. jobina? >> thank you, kumasi. good morning. pg&e says so far they have restored power to more than 156,000 customers. so, what we're also looking at here is the utility's website coming up because this map shows the public safety power shutoffs. all the purple triangles represent areas that are still

without power. at the height of the shutoff, 345,000 customers had their power turned off. most areas are expected to have their lights turned on today. abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live in orinda this morning with how residents are dealing with this and also businesses. good morning, amy. >> hi, jobina. you can't help but feel bad for the businesses and i ammic looilo looking at them in orinda and a second day and morning of not being able to light. it's the same situation in lafayette and also in moraga. their downtown areas do not have power and, of course, some homes also have had their lights turned out. we have seen grocery stores bring in lights to stay in business. some people are frustrated. you can go on nextdoor and read how hard this is for people as

they try to distance learn and work without power. the hardware store now say they plan for these. >> after last year's one we restocked and held stock on things like generators and cords for generators, oil for y generators and gas cans and held much more stock than we would have normally in years past. >> pg&e set up resource centers for people where they can go charge their devices and get a snack and just hang out. the utility says now that the winds have died down, they will be able to launch their helicopters this morning. that's how they'll inspect all their equipment and make sure nothing was damaged with the winds and once they determine everything is okay, then they'll start turning the power back on. this area lost power sunday evening. everybody will be very excited for that moment this afternoon or this evening when those lights come back on. live in orinda, amy hollyfield,

abc7 news. >> amy, thank you. fire investigators expect that a cigarette is what sparked a fire in solano county. sky 7 flew over the area yesterday. flew to 300 acres as high winds were fanning the flames. the fire chief said they found a half burned cigarette butt and that is not what people wanted to hear. visibility issues from the smoke led to a crash on highway 12. everyone is okay and no structures burned and that fire was soon brought under control. howling winds are driving a huge fire in orange county and it's exploded in size with entire neighborhoods in its path. southern california edison says that the power lines are being investigated for possibly playing a role in igniting the silverado fire. so far two firefighters have suffered critical burns. and san mateo county firefighters there, as well as san jose, san francisco and mountain view are joining in this firefight. high winds are fueling the flames that chased about 60,000 people from their homes in

irvine. >> the windy conditions and we didn't see anything like this coming this way. it's our first time that something like this happened to us. >> these fires will continue to cross and encroach upon the homes in multiple areas. so, our priority right now is getting people evacuated and out of the path of the fire. >> the fire's now 7,200 acres and zero containment. today governor newsom is expected to give another update on the state's response to wildfires and covid-19. last week the governor announced $200 million in new funding for converting hotels and other buildings into housing for the homeless. he'll speak at noon today and you can watch his update right here on abc7 and streaming at abc7news.com. more businesses can reopen in san francisco. the county is the first in the bay area to enter the least restrictive tier. nonessential offices can reopen at 25% capacity.

offices with less than or fewer than 20 employees can reopen beyond 25% but they still have to be spaced out. so, here is what else can open starting today. indoor climbing gyms and indoor personal services which require limited face covering removal and higher education classes could increase capacity of outdoor class to 25 people. election day is just one week away and if you are planning to vote by mail the usps is recommending that voters send in the ballots by the end of today. here in california, you can return your ballot as long as it is postmarked by november 3rd. but the usps is asking voters to allow one week in between when you put your ballot in the mail and the deadline to receive it. studies have found that missed deadlines are a major reason mail-in ballots are rejected. abc7 has voter resources for you. just head to our website to find the breakdowns of all the propositions and more. you can find that as

uber and lyft are like every big guy i've ever brought down. prop 22 doesn't "help" their drivers-- it denies them benefits. 22 doesn't help women. it actually weakens sexual harassment laws, which are meant to protect them. uber and lyft aren't even required to investigate sexual harassment claims. i agree with the la times: no on 22. uber and lyft want all the power. so, show them the real power is you. vote no on prop 22.

jobina fortson at the live desk with how all of this started. jobina. >> kumasi, yes. all of this started with a deadly police shooting of a black man identified by our sister station wpvi as walter wallace. police say they opened fire after apparently wallace refused to drop a knife. sparked widespread protest. some of it leading to looting and also riots in philadelphia. >> oh, my god. >> police say a sergeant was struck by a pickup truck early this morning. she suffered a broken leg among other injuries and other officers were hit with bricks and rocks. dozens of people have been detained for the violence. people took to the streets after police shot and killed wallace yesterday afternoon. we're not showing the graphic video of the incident that is circling on social media right now. in the video, you can hear the officers fire their guns several

times and you can also see and hear a woman attempt to hold back wallace. we have not been able to identify her yet. it's not immediately clear from the video what happened prior to the shooting. police say he was armed with a knife. the philadelphia police commissioner said the shooting video raises questions and they are investigating the incident. kumasi. >> thank you, jobina. and we told you yesterday that the san francisco marin food bank is in dire need of volunteers and donations for a really tough holiday season. now, the same issue is hitting the south bay. >> the drive-through distribution goes much slower. if we don't have the volunteers we need in our warehouse, it could mean we're not able to pack the number of boxes we need for that distribution the next day. >> second harvest silicon valley needs volunteers to help put together food boxes. pre-covid they operated just three distribution drive throughs and expanded to 130 in santa clara and san mateo

fire threat finally ending and alternates this weekend just a few spooky clouds available in the morning. jet stream still stretching from hawaii all the way up into canada and we are locked in about 1,000 to 1,500-mile wide bowl of extremely, exceptionally dry air. and it warms up so nicely. 30 to 40 degrees. i mean, that's pretty impressive considering we only get ten hours and 45 minutes of sunshine today. 79 to 75 in the south bay. 75 to 78 on the peninsula. around 70 to 72 the peninsula coast and mid 70s to high high h north bay valleys the warmest today at 74 to 79 along the east bay shore. and 77 to about 82 in our inland neighborhoods. i expect fewer microclimates and you see the blue, that's the 30s starting to creep in to some of our deeper valleys in the north

helicopters already began looking at its equipment in marin county and hopefully look at the pg&e website that shows the public safety power shutoffs as you can see highlighted there in purple triangles. amy hollyfield live in the east bay and i know our orinda neighbors are still waiting for those lights to come back on. >> yeah, they're not so lucky here yet. still dark here. they are really hoping that that power is going to get turned back on later today. it's dark all over the lamarinda area. this is the last bay area section to be without power today. the lights went out here on sunday evening. this will be the second morning businesses will not be able to open. people are also in the dark on their homes while they're trying to work from home and distance learn. a lot of them are frustrated. you can just go on nextdoor and hear them talking about how difficult this is. but there are other people who are looking for the positive in

>> yes, kumasi. thousands of people have been forced to evacuate following the outbreak of these two fires in southern california. we want to get right now to the first fire that we're talking about the silverado fire burning near ivine has burned more than 7,200 acres. within two hours two firefighters suffered second and third degree burns. here's an evacuee describing how quickly the fire grew. >> it jumped and we could see the flames from our house. i'm ready. i'm all packed and my wife and her kids are already gone. >> southern california edison says a power line may be to blame for the fire. and there's another wildfire called the blue ridge fire burning near yorba linda. we'll bring you now a live picture of what is happening there. crews were setting backfires to try to stop it from spreading into a neighborhood. we'll stay on top of these fires

>> let's take a look at what's going on and we get to comment on that one further, i hope. we'll go with our 24-hour change and look, we expect it to be cooler and, sure enough, it is. just about all areas. you can see where the wind is up a little bit. places like oakland and ukiah. the rest of us up to 13 degrees cooler and a lot has to do with the exceptionally dry air. not as dry as we were yesterday but still seeing single digit dew points and six degrees in livermore and the temperatures six degrees for the air to saturate and create fog. that's how dry it is. right now we're in the upper 50s to low 60s across the east bay. we've got 64 in oakland and 63 in alameda. some of our remember wawarmer s. 45 in mountain view and 49 in san jose, some of our milder spots. let's talk about the commute. boy, seeing a lot of cars on the san mateo bridge. we'll get to jobina in just a second. little breezy in our hills if

warning that they are already seeing a surge. nearly 40% of scams reported so far this year were related to online shopping compare that with about 25% last year. the majority of consumers say they have lost money on purchases made through facebook. so, be careful, everybody. all right. let's take a live look now at the new york stock exchange trading gets under way. wall street looking to rebound after the s&p saw the biggest daily drop in four weeks. the dow and nasdaq also saw big drops. you can see right now still down, but not as much as we saw yesterday. right now close to 45 points. all week here on abc7 we're looking at ways to still have the holiday even during a pandemic. all the things that are changing because of covid-19 this year. so, every day we're diving into a specific area of focus. today we're looking at the economy and very specifically air travel. so, if you're headed to the airport this holiday season for the first time this year, you're going to notice things are different.

air that we're still sitting under. in fact, if you look at the winds, not the fog because there isn't any we still have an off-shore breeze through most of the afternoon until right along the coast. a little bit of a sea breeze develops there and your humidity back at average while the rest of us are bone dry. mid to upper 70s. 75 to 79 in the south bay and 75 to 78 on the peninsula. low to mid 70s along the does and downtown and south san francisco and 78 in sausalito and 80 to 84 through the north bay valleys. along the east bay shore 74 to 79 east bay valleys 77 to 80 and cooler tonight without the microclimates. 39 in santa rosa to about 51 in san mateo. temperatures mid 60s to 70. all seven days along the coast. mid 70s to 80 around the bay and low to mid 80s inland. no rain season. not here. >> okay, mike. thank you. this just in for a second day in a row, there are some north bay schools that are going to be closed because of the power shutoffs.
