hurricane to hit the continental u.s. this late in the season in more than a century. authorities preparing for a storm surge of up to nine feet in mississippi and alabama. >> hurricane zeta has made it to gulfport. we are in the outside of the eye wall, and the winds have gusted above 70 miles per hour. the storm surge should happen at any moment. >> overnight nearly 1 million power outages across the region. in biloxi, mississippi, cars bobbing like bath toys in a parking garage at the golden nugget hotel and casino. in louisiana, the damage widespread. this batting cage now a mangled mess of twisted metal. pictures showing three breaches in this levee in jefferson parish. this large boat now stranded in the middle of this highway. >> prepare for collision. >> and this barge breaking loose from its mooring. >> man, we are so lucky. >> the storm turning deadly in new orleans where police say one person was electrocuted after touching a live wire. the city was spared from five previous storms that hit louisiana this season, but this time it took a direct hit.

>> this is not a drill. we've had many of them. it's not a drill. >> the storm is moving inland threatening states all the way to the carolinas. we'll take a closer look at the forecast in just a few moments. now to the race for the white house. just five days until the election and already more than 75 million americans have voted. there's no question voters are determined. a pregnant woman in florida went into labor at her polling site and still wouldn't go to the hospital until she cast her ballot. meanwhile, the supreme court has now weighed in on two closely watched cases in pennsylvania and north carolina. the justices are allowing longer deadlines for absentee ballots in those battleground states, but today it's another battleground getting all the attention. on the campaign trail today, both candidates focusing on the biggest swing state on the map holding dueling rallies later in tampa, florida. >> hello, phoenix. >> reporter: with five days until election day, the president is touting what's expected to be a blockbuster economic report out this

morning. >> i think it's going to be maybe the biggest number in the history of our country, gdp. that's our big number, right? >> reporter: data today will likely show skyrocketing economic growth. the u.s. gross domestic product expected to increase by a record 25% to 30%. that number from the third quarter when businesses started re-opening. in a memo titled, trump's doomed effort to paint a rosy economic picture, the biden campaign slamming the president saying his mission accomplished rhetoric does not capture the true direction or state of the u.s. economy. on wall street wednesday the dow plunged 943 points, the worst day since june as coronavirus cases rise and stimulus talks stall. the president in arizona last night staying focused on the economy, revealing what he's calling the american dream plan. >> over the next four years, the american dream plan will bring more than 2 million new jobs to

hispanic communities, create over 500,000 new hispanic owned small businesses. >> reporter: its stark contrast to trump's multiple campaign stops joe biden kept a low profile wednesday voting in delaware and holding a covid briefing where he slammed the president for his, quote, reckless rallies. seven people have been hospitalized after a trump rally in nebraska tuesday night when supporters were left stranded waiting for buses in near freezing temperatures. biden called it a reflection of how trump has handled the pandemic. >> he gets his photo-op and then he gets out. he leaves everyone else to suffer the consequence of his failure to make a responsible plan. >> reporter: in the meantime, trump is calling for the prosecution of miles taylor after taylor revealed himself as anonymous, the person "the new york times" described as a former senior administration official who wrote an op-ed critical of the president. >> it turned out to be a

low-level staffer, a sleazebag who's never worked in the white house. this guy, in my opinion, he should be prosecuted. >> reporter: taylor wrote the article in 2018 when he likely had little interaction with senior officials in the west wing according to abc's jonathan karl. >> miles taylor, hardly a household name. at the time he was the deputy chief of staff for the secretary of homeland security. i think many people were under the impression -- i know i was -- that the article was written by somebody with a much more senior role. >> reporter: last night taylor was asked why he denied being anonymous in the past. >> i wanted that work to stand on its own two legs and deprive the president of an opportunity to do one more personal attack to distract from his record. >> reporter: the white house calls taylor a disgruntled low level former staffer. meanwhile, we're learning more about the president's travel plans. he is holding three more rallies in pennsylvania on saturday alone. more now on the coronavirus. a new forecast predicts cases in

the next will increase in every state except hawaii. and will increase sharply in about half the country. thousands of people lined up for testing in milwaukee yesterday. wisconsin is in crisis with some hospitals on the brink. dr. anthony fauci says it could be 2022 before things return to normal in this country. 500,000 new cases have been reported in the last week. public health officials are urging families to avoid thanksgiving gatherings. another state in crisis is utah. our matt gutman is there, and he spoke to one doctor who says conditions are becoming unsustainable. >> our biggest resource limitation is health care care givers, and so it's the people that are taking care of the patients, not the beds. >> you can create more beds but you can't create more doctors and nurses. >> right. we can't just make icu doctors, icu nurses or floor nurses. >> elsewhere, more than a dozen lawmakers in arkansas and the surgeon general have now tested positive for covid. overseas things have gone from bad to worse in europe. france and germany have

announced new lockdowns amid a spike in cases. police in philadelphia say they found a van loaded with explosives and other suspicious items. they recovered propane tanks, torches and what could be sticks of dynamite. the bomb squad is investigating. that discovery came during the city's newly imposed curfew after the deadly police shooting of walter wallace. protesters violating that curfew faced off with police on the city's west side overnight. one day earlier 30 officers were injured when demonstrators threw objects at police forcing them to retreat. new video of the fires in southern california threatening homes. you can see the flames behind these houses. the good news is the evacuation orders because of the blue ridge fire have now been lifted. time now for a look at your thursday weather. good morning. we're tracking zeta as it moves through the southeast. it's going to put down a lot of rain and some gusty winds as well. by the time we get to early friday morning, this will be

league baseball is investigating the team's third baseman, justin turner, accused of violating coronavirus protocols. the veteran player was pulled just before the eighth inning tuesday night after his covid test came back positive during the game. but after the win, turner came back on the field to celebrate with the team. he's seen kissing his wife, hugging players and sitting next to team manager and cancer survivor dave roberts, even taking his mask down for a team picture. the league releasing a statement critical of turner's behavior saying, while a desire to celebrate is understandable, turner's decision to leave isolation and enter the field was wrong and put everyone he came into contact with at risk. when mlb security raised the matter of being on the field with turner, he emphatically refused to comply. but some teammates and analysts are speaking out in support of turner. >> he's part of the team, you know. forget all that. he's part of the team, you know, we can't -- we're not excluding him from anything.

and seized thousands of dollars in stolen goods allegedly taken from home depot to be sold online. the house was used as a warehouse stacked with boxes from top to bottom. >> there appears to be one bedroom used for sleeping, the four bedrooms including bathrooms is stuffed full with merchandise. >> the suspects even had an elevator for heavier items. investigators say the suspects could have made millions of dollars in sales over the years. turning back to the pandemic, a group of mothers had to be removed from a school board meeting in central florida because they refused wear masks. they held up that meeting for more than an hour and after they were ejected, the board approved a mask mandate. a new study is out this morning on just how long your immunity can last after you get covid-19 and also this morning, some encouraging news from hospitals across the country in spite of a surge in cases. earlier i spoke with dr. ryan ribeiro about these headlines.

we're seeing these rising covid cases, rising hospitalizations really surging across the country. we do want to focus on what could be considered encouraging news or at least you could file it under things could be worse and that is the gap between the number of hospitalizations and the number of deaths. that gap is getting wider. can you explain what that means or what we're seeing? >> i think there's a few different things going on here. one, i think hospitals are a lot less overtaxed now than they were in the early days and we know that has a big impact on mortality. two, we are seeing a different mix of patients who are getting hospitalized now. we're seeing more young people without any pre-existing conditions and then, third, we actually are getting some tools in our toolbox to combat coronavirus finally. >> we do have some more clues on how long you might be immune after you get covid. what are you hearing? >> so there is an interesting study that was released today. there are a couple of main takeaways from this study. one, it did kind of demonstrate

that antibodies to covid that the body forms are pretty likely to neutralize the virus and prevent reinfection. that's i think very exciting. two, they looked at patients who were infected with covid and saw they produced a sufficient amount of those antibodies for up to five months. now, five months is just the longest time that they tested in the study. it very well could be the case that immunity is conferred for longer than that, though they did find that immunity seemed to wane over time. not a whole lott longer than that. >> certainly the most prominent person who battled covid-19 is president trump. he was among the many who were hospitalized, and he did, of course, survive it and get back on his feet. he touted among his treatment this experimental antibody cocktail from regeneron that he sort of said was the key to his recovery in his opinion. we know the antibody cocktail is being tested right now, but regeneron has started to release some of the data. what are you seeing when you take a look at that data at least so far? >> it's not that surprising. i mean antibody treatments have been used in other contexts for
