biden will be doing something this weekend that he hasn't done so far during this campaign, now, we'll get to that in a moment but first some star power for the trump campaign. this morning, president trump finding another ally in the world of hip-hop. ♪ if you don't see me on the block, i ain't trying to hide ♪ ♪ i blinged in with the hood i'm camouflage ♪ >> reporter: lil wayne posting a picture alongside trump thursday night after what the rapper called a great meeting endorsing the president's proposed plan aimed at bringing millions of jobs to black communities. in the meantime, both candidates remaining focused on critical battlegrounds. today the president holding rallies in wisconsin and minnesota, as well as michigan where biden and former president obama will campaign together for the first time tomorrow. >> i hope you're under some kind of cover when that storm hits. i wasn't. >> reporter: overnight biden leaving florida in the rain saying he'll be barnstorming in the midwest today. >> iowa, wisconsin and

minnesota. so see you then. >> reporter: earlier both biden and trump in tampa giving their final pitches in dueling rallies. >> it's up to you. you hold the key. if florida goes blue, it's over. >> this is like home. this is home. right? this is home. >> reporter: first lady melania trump joining the president for their first 2020 campaign event together. >> president trump chooses to move this country forward. >> reporter: while in florida news on the economy giving the president something to brag about, the gross domestic product growing more than 33%, the fastest pace ever. >> they say talk about your economic success, talk about 33.1%, the greatest in history. now, look, if i do, i mean, how many times can i say it? >> reporter: that economic growth coming in the past three months as the country began recovering from the pandemic shutdown. this morning the trump campaign

celebrating in a new ad. >> these numbers are absolutely remarkable. >> reporter: and with four days until the election, a new court ruling in minnesota says absentee ballots must be received by 8:00 on election night in order to be counted. an appeals court striking down the state's request to allow absentee ballots to be counted as long as they were postmarked by election day. meanwhile, in central florida some counties are hiring security guards to watch over ballot boxes after reports of them being vandalized in other parts of the country. >> one in california and one most recently in boston where somebody tried to catch those ballots on fire in a drop box and were successful in catching some on fire. >> and the coronavirus continues to be front and center in this campaign. two people who attended a trump rally in north carolina have now tested positive. dr. anthony fauci is calling for a national mask mandate as the u.s. sets another single day record for the number of covid cases. one of college football's top

stars, clemson quarterback trevor lawrence is now sidelined after testing positive. but overnight president trump's son, don junior, is speaking out about the lower death rate while defending his father's claim that we turned the corner. a stern warning about the spike in covid case. >> we are facing an urgent crisis and there is an imminent risk to you. >> reporter: hospitalizations on the rise coast to coast. at least 13 states seeing a record number of patients and now a new battle brewing in one of the hardest hit areas. a judge in el paso ordering a two-week shutdown of nonessential businesses in the county taking effect overnight. but the texas attorney general says he may challenge the shutdown claiming it violates the governor's executive order. in wisconsin, hospitals now two to six weeks away from running out of icu beds. 20% of hospitals say they're facing critical staffing shortages. in utah the governor warns

hospital there are getting too null to function. >> the hospitals frankly just can't keep up with the trend that we have going now. >> reporter: but overnight the president's son dismissing concerns in the media about the rise in cases. >> these people, these people are truly morons. >> reporter: donald trump jr. echoing his father saying the country is turning the corner on the pandemic. >> why aren't they talking about this? oh, because the number is almost nothing. we're outperforming europe in a positive way, so well because we've gotten ahold of this. >> speaking of europe, belgium could follow france and germany today imposing a new lockdown. france is on a maximum security alert after what's described as a terror attack in the city of nice. police say a tunisian man armed with three knives and carrying a copy of the koran attacked worshippers in a church killing three people before they shot him. french president emmanuel macron has deployed thousands of additional troops to protect churches and schools. the attack is the country's third attributed to muslim extremists in less than two months.

now to the extreme weather. the remnants of hurricane zeta leaving nearly 2 million power outages and a trail of destruction all the way to new york. here's abc's elizabeth schulze. >> reporter: this morning the south reeling in the wake of zeta. the powerful storm blamed for at least six deaths after making landfall as a category 2 hurricane. >> it basically tore out a large chunk of the front of this mobile home killing a man who was asleep. >> reporter: the 110-mile-per-hour winds toppling trees, downing power lines and battering louisiana. roofs torn off buildings. >> oh. >> reporter: this boat blown across dry land in the middle of the storm. >> holy crap. they have to stop it. >> reporter: this trampoline tossed into the air over a fence and into another yard. the fierce winds reducing parts of this apartment building to rubble. abc's rob marciano got a firsthand look at the aftermath. >> winds were so strong here,

they were able to rip the roof off this two-story apartment building. >> reporter: as the storm moved east, zeta brought over eight feet of storm surge to mississippi and destruction to georgia. one driver lucky to be alive after a 120-foot tree came crashing down on his suv. a similar scene after a tree fell onto this mail truck. streets across the state left washed out by rushing rivers like these, and now dangerous winds wreaking havoc in new york city. this crane spinning wildly slamming into the building and flinging massive chunks of metal onto the streets below and now more heavy rain and even snow is on the way. elizabeth schulze, abc news. >> our thanks to elizabeth. and now let's take a closer look at your friday forecast. rain and snow in the northeast this morning will make for a messy commute. it's all part of a storm system that combined with the remnants of hurricane zeta. the region will see its coldest temperatures since last spring

heists, and those goods from gucci, prada and chanel are worth $6 million. walmart has removed guns and ammunition from store shelves as a safety precaution. although they're not displayed, they are still for sale. the decision follows the unrest and looting in philadelphia this week after the police shooting of walter wallace. his family says they don't want the officers to be charged with murder. the family claims the officers were not properly trained to deal with someone in a mental health crisis. police are expected to release body camera video late next week. new questions in the case of a missing mother found alive after spending 12 days in zion national park. authorities claim her story doesn't add up, and they're launching a criminal investigation. here's abc's andrea fujii. >> reporter: this morning, new concern about the story of a mother reported missing while on a hike in utah. the washington county sheriff's office is now conducting a criminal investigation into holly courtier. she was found alive october 189th in zion national park.

her family says she had left 12 days earlier without food, water or her phone. now one of the sergeants who found her says there are discrepancies in her story. courtier was found half a mile from a parking area where she was last seen. >> to go after trail it'll be virtually impossible to find somebody unless they want to be found. >> reporter: her family says the 38-year-old may have suffered a mental breakdown and planned a spiritual journey while fasting inside the park but they say she fell, suffered a concussion and became disoriented. still, they say she managed to stay near a riverbed for water to survive. her sister spoke to abc news after holly was found. >> she's had very little water, we found out. but the moment i talked to her on the phone, she said i love you so much, and that was her signature thing to say. >> reporter: but the sergeant says the water in that river is toxic. >> if she had been drinking that water, unless she had some

back now with video of a train derailing in eastern texas. people in a one-mile radius had to be evacuated because it was carrying chemicals. some local schools are closed today as a precaution. fire pits are becoming increasingly popular. they can . a father and daughter were lucky to survive this explosion here. their gas fire pit had no ventilation. firefighters conducted a demonstration to show what could happen when a fire pit is not used properly. they should be placed on natural grass, on dirt or a stone pallet joe, never on a wooden deck,

really believe that ohio number? >> i think none of these numbers change the trajectory of the race at this point. the race has been remarkably solid for weeks now, but that ohio number, the campaigns definitely are taking it seriously because, look who is going there. ivanka trump and mike pence and kamala harris going there saturday and mike bloomberg is tossing a lot of -- several million dollars into ohio and texas as well so they both believe it's on the radar. >> and biden was in florida thursday and he heads to the midwest today but he's had a much quieter travel schedule compared to president trump. of course, biden says it's because of the pandemic. how is this playing? is his slowing campaigning schedule hurting or helping him. >> there was one day this week where he didn't leave delaware. there's no votes in delaware. he could have at least gone to one state, pennsylvania again or north carolina but he didn't. trump meanwhile has been barnstorming all over the place but look at the quality versus

quantity. i was watching a trump event in bull head city, arizona, this week where he spoke for 74 minutes, and i roughly counted about two minutes where he talked about what he'd do for the next four years. the rest was like a grateful dead jam. he was talking about how tall his kid was and how can you eat spaghetti and meatballs with a mask on, he calls joe biden a socialist. there's quality visits and then there's quantity visits, but if joe biden loses, he will be second-guessed for an eternity for not making more. >> we are four days out from the election. lastly i want to ask big picture what are you expecting on election night considering so many states may not finish counting mail-in ballots for days? at this point do you think we'll know the result tuesday night? >> there's a slim chance we will. i mean, if there is a blow-out in florida biden's way or that's the only way where you could see the evening being called then. >> our thanks to joe garofoli.

checking the top stories, new data shows one american is testing positive for coronavirus every 1.2 seconds, and one is dying every 107 seconds. meanwhile this morning, clemson quarterback trevor lawrence has now tested positive. he'll miss tomorrow's game, and despite rising numbers, donald trump jr. appeared on fox news claiming covid deaths have dropped, quote, to almost nothing. more than 80 million americans have already voted as president trump and joe biden head to the midwest today. the president is holding rallies in michigan, wisconsin and minnesota where he's expected to continue touting the new gdp report showing record economic growth. biden is also visiting three states today, and tomorrow former president obama will join him on the campaign trail in michigan. a surprise in baseball as the chicago white sox hire 76-year-old tony la russa as their new manager.

la russa is already in the hall of fame. he'll be the third oldest manager in major league history. today's weather, rain and snow this morning in the northeast. rain also in florida and showers from the pacific northwest. sunny skies across the middle of the country today. and finally we turn the clocks back this weekend and lots of people are not happy about it. >> our will ganss is one of them. ♪ when the lights go down in the city ♪ >> reporter: the lights going down in cities across the country much earlier beginning this sunday thanks to daylight saving time, switching back to standard time. sunset will be at 4:52 p.m. in new york city. and with so many americans working from home facing quarantine and election fatigue, many are not looking forward to fewer moments of sunshine. can we just not do daylight saving time this year? haven't we been through enough? why can't we all just come together for once and ignore daylight saving time? the consensus at least online is that the last thing we need is one more hour of 2020.

a position to, quote, stop the unnecessary flip-flopping of time has resulted in more than 370,000 messages sent to congress. and some states have clocked serious attempts to make permanent changes. marco rubio introduced a bill to skip the fall back this year because of the pandemic. the senator saying ang extra hour of daylight, is, quote, critical to helping families and children endure this challenging school year. back in 2018, nearly 60% of california voters approved a measure to keep daylight saving time with more sun in the evening. and florida lawmakers did the same just last year, but in both cases congress failed to make the moves permanent. daylight saving time became federal law in 1966. the government saying it saves lives by preventing traffic accidents and reducing crime. but critics say it throws off our circadian rhythms. i think i'm team no more sunsets at 4:00 p.m., trevor, mona. >> also in europe, a lawmaker submitted a bill essentially saying the same thing, saying we don't need another hour of 2020, you guys.
