dealing with that. but there will be more hardship if we have to shut everyone down who is open right now. >> many san francisco restaurants are allowed to operate at 25% in doors. they were getting ready to move to 50% next week. >> my heart goes out to everybody that needs to be open. have their doors open. paying rent. and for all the employees had that are counting on work. >> over the past two weeks, hospitalizations in san francisco, went from 23 patients to 37 patients. dr. brandt colefaxcolefaxcolefax admissions remain good. >> we want to pause on risky activity so the virus does not get too far ahead of us. as we have seen across the country and around the world, when the virus gets too far ahead, you cannot catch up. >> and that's what they are trying to avoid, they want to

it's fun. >> this year's really changed a lot. we have this piece of glass in between us now in a car, in a vehicle. before, you were able to get in people's faces, and it was really an in-your-face kind of a haunted house. we've all had to change in this covid time. we want everybody to be safe. we had to pivot. you know, we had to redesign it, so we had a couple of weeks to come down and put it together in our head how we could do a drive-through and make it successful. and there's something on every corner for you to see. ♪ that's what it's all about, right? screams and laughs. [ screaming ] >> yep, about like that. >> pirates of emerson started on emerson street in the city of fremont, you know. we started it in my parents' backyard. and after our seventh year in our yard, we had 3,000 people through in two nights. and the city shut us down, said, "you can't do it anymore." so we either had to quit doing it or go commercial. so we got ourselves a tent and we moved out, and the rest is history. here we are 29 years later,

taking up the pirates of emerson haunted drive-thru. you're actually driving through the houses. you're driving through the pirate ships, and you're driving through the hillbillies' house. >> with the whole pandemic going on and stuff, it's a good gig. >> [ laughing evilly ] >> i'm used to the walk-through ones, and halloween's my favorite time of the year, so to keep the tradition alive, why not try a drive-through one? >> we have over 45 people on staff this year. every one of them is enthusiastic about being out here. they were all afraid that maybe halloween was gonna be canceled this year, and we didn't let that happen, and we're not gonna let that happen to the bay area, so you guys make sure you come on out and see what we're all about. >> there's tunnels that are really scary. they follow your car. they jump out. it's fun. >> drive through and enjoy it. >> i knew that it would work. in my head and in my heart, i knew it would work. >> [ laughing ] >> just watching these cars drive through one after another and watching them enjoy themselves, it's a good feeling. really happy, and we're very proud of the event that we put together this year. >> here's another halloween treat.
