[ chanting this is what democracy looks like] >> many of them ready to vote for the very first time and want to make sure their voices are heard at the ballot box. good evening and thank you so much for joining us. i'm dion lim. count them down, only two days left before the election, and the final push is on to get out the vote across the bay area. youth voter turnout could be pivotal on tuesday. abc7 news reporter cornell barnard joins us live at san francisco city hall where young people took to the streets today to make sure their voices are heard. cornell? >> reporter: yeah, dion, they really did take to the streets of san francisco. many of them are first-time voters, and they say that they know that they have the ability to make a change on tuesday. [ chanting ] >> reporter: election day closing in fast, young voters are feeling empowered.

this event called "march for our future" made its way through san francisco sponsored by youth advocates for change. >> we are two days from the most important election of our lives. >> reporter: 18-year-old henry from menlo park is voting for the first time. he helped organize the event. he believes his friends can be the change on tuesday. >> i'm telling my friends if you are eligible to vote this election, please get to the polls now because you do have the power to change the ouk of this election. >> reporter: a co-organizer from san ramon says so many things are motivating her to get out to vote. >> we need to talk about black lives matter and climate change. we need to talk about lgbtq rights, women's rights, all the marginalized communities. >> there are too many young people that already voted. >> reporter: this professor of politics believes that young voters could be a game changer on election night. they proved that by showing up for the midterm elections in 2018. >> we are seeing a young

generation of young people who are determined to be heard and i think part of the ouk of tuesday night is going to point to the effect of young people on voting. >> reporter: the march ended at the federal building with a rallying cry to the crowd to make your voice heard. >> this fight does not end on november 3rd. politicians will not save us. we will save us. >> reporter: political data indicates that new voter registration for young voters has nearly tripled since 2016. we'll see what happens on tuesday. live in san francisco, cornell barnard, abc7 news. >> those are impressive numbers. cornell, thanks. on the ballot californians are being asked to decide on expanding youth voting. if it passes prop 18 would allow 17-year-olds to vote in primaries and special elections if they will be 18 and eligible to vote in the next general election. in san francisco, voters are also deciding on prop g. that would lower the voting age

to 16 for local elections. and in oakland voters will see measure qq on the ballot. it would give city council the option of allowing 16 and 17-year-olds to vote in school board elections. san mateo county will offer early voting at 45 locations again tomorrow. and that includes one at the event center in san mateo. officials tell us turnout so far has been high. >> what i've noticed is in a very high motivation to cast their ballots in this election. turnout has been absolutely exceptional at historical levels. we have over 270,000 ballots returned and we're at a 59% voter return rate. >> reporter: voting centers are open from 9:00 tomorrow morning until 5:00 in the evening. and you can vote at any location if you are registered to san mateo county. in santa clara county today, people were voting in person and dropping off ballots in person.

officials say the numbers from the first day of early voting compared to the primary seemed to show turnout would be high. >> on the first day we had five people come in and march. we had 129 come in for the presidential general on the first day of early voting here at our office. >> 579,000, impressive. behind the scenes the very first steps of ballot sorting and processing are underway. santa clara county has more than 100 vote centers and dozens of dropoff sites. you have until 8:00 p.m. tuesday to drop off your ballot. you can head to our website abc7news.com for everything you need to know. we have an interactive map showing every early voting and ballot dropoff location in the bay area. hours are also locationed on election day. plus, we'd like to know how voting is going for you.

we're also interested in knowing if you have any concerns about the process this year. it was down to the wire for president donald trump and his democratic challenger joe biden. both candidates focused on swaying voters in battleground states today. the polls in some of those prized states will close in less than 48 hours. abc news reporter has more. >> reporter: the candidates are blitzing battleground country. president trump holding five rallies across five states on sunday including iowa, north carolina, georgia, and florida. his first stop, michigan, where he is once again making his case to suburban women. >> they want to close down your factories, ship your jobs to china, eliminate private health care, destroy the suburbs. the women of the suburbs, you've got to love me. >> reporter: the president's handling of the coronavirus pandemic continues to be a key issue.

his campaign says voters want life to get back to normal. >> look at these democrat-run states like pennsylvania, michigan, wisconsin. we're seeing this on the campaign trails of the rallies. people are tired of these lockdowns. >> reporter: in philadelphia, joe biden taking aim at the president's leadership. >> two more days we could put app end to this presidency. that has from the very beginning sought to divide us, to tear us apart. >> reporter: his campaign appearing confident they will win some of the battleground states they carried in 2016. >> instead of the number of contested battleground states shrinking, which is normally what you see at this point in the campaign, the number is actually expanded so that we are now campaigning also in georgia, in iowa, in ohio. >> reporter: as election day nears, more than 93 million americans have already cast their ballots. but a federal judge will hear arguments monday in a case brought by texas conservatives challenging more than 100,000

ballots cast at ten drive-through locations in harris county, which is largely democrat. the group alleging curbside voting violates state and federal election laws. a similar challenge was already rejected by the all-republican texas supreme court. abc news, washington. some developing news now. a 150-year-old traditiona sky7's china town will be different nexto live chinese new year festival and parade. the san francisco chinese chamber of commerce made the announcement today citing safety concern as mid-the pandemic. the parade is billed as the largest lunar new year parade outside of asia. instead, some floats will be put on display along with statues celebrating the year of the ox around san francisco. >> we're going to have an appropriate event in china town for the local community. we don't want people to come from all over the region and all over the country and all over the world. but china town will celebrate itself in a healthy way.

. california reported more than 4,500 new cases of coronavirus today, which is higher than the daily average. the 14-day average is more than 4,200 cases. and we are also seeing the positivity rate trending upward with the 14-day rising to 3.2%. the positivity rate is a good indicator of the transmission rate of the virus. a 92-year-old san jose gift shop reopened today after being shut down for eight months because of the pandemic. the owners never doubted this day would come. they spent time getting new inventory like cat statues, japanese print bulls and origami. the owner's brother explained her sister's decision. >> she's paying attention to the county guidelines, and now feels

the warriors are looking to take a legal battle over debt to the state's highest court. the oakland arena underwent renovations in 1996. the oakland alameda county coliseum authority says the warriors owe more than $40 million for their part of the deal. so far the courts have agreed. the warriors have now filed for

that november warmth does continue for another day tomorrow. a live look at the east bay hills. the sun has already set. we set our clocks back one hour earlier this morning as daylight savings time came to an end. our sunsets are getting earlier and earlier. that is a gorgeous sky we have out there this evening. a beautiful sunset underway. we do have the beach hazard statement in effect right now along our entire coast line. this will last until 5:00 p.m. tomorrow. just know that we have a bit more of an active ocean current right now. there is the increased risk of rip currents and sneaker waves. you can see breakers six to nine feet during this time period. temperatures right now i think a lot of us enjoyed this warmer weather to smart off the weekend. and still it's warm out there right now. we're at 83 in cloverdale. 71 in san mateo. 73 that current temperature in livermore. overnight tonight again our marine layer continues to stay

pretty compressed. so any fog that does develop pretty much limited to the immediate coast line. most areas will stay mainly clear overnight tonight. and numbers around the bay shoreline on either side of about 50 degrees inland it's a little bit cooler in the low to mid-50s. but as that sun gets up here earlier tomorrow at about 6:36 in the morning, it's going to quickly warm us up by 10:00 a.m., you can see numbers in the 60s if not already in the low 70s in some cities. as we approach lunchtime, we will see some areas getting close to 80 degrees. tomorrow is going to be a little bit warmer than we were today. if you liked today, you are going to like tomorrow. november warmth on our monday, 76 in san francisco. 80 the high in oakland. 83 in san jose. about 88 in cloverdale. 84 in concord. so it is warm. 64 in half moon bay. 80 the high in santa cruz. we do have a little bit of smoke in our atmosphere.

san francisco hosted its first runway show since march today. it all happened outside john's grill on ellis street. the event doubled as a fundraiser for the ucsf covid-19 response fund. tickets included lunch at outdoor tables. guests were required to wear masks when not eating. and so were the runway models. the owner of john's grill said he wanted to help first responders and provide a way for people to socialize safely.
