joe biden now taking the lead in pennsylvania. this happened just a few minutes ago. this is a live look at counting under way in philadelphia. the numbers are still coming in from crucial swing states including arizona and nevada. jobina has the numbers. >> thank you. this is one of the reasons why counting every single ballot is so important. look at these numbers on your screen from overnight. biden took the lead in georgia, now ahead by 1,096 votes. biden also has taken the lead in pennsylvania as you just mentioned. he's ahead by 6,000 votes. and this is major these two developments. first a live look outside from our abc7 roof camera. our storm impact scale is back in action this morning. it's been a while. there's so much to talk about on this friday, november 6th. mike is tracking this first chance of measurable showers in months. hi, mike.

>> on that picture that you showed, that was the cold front, the clouds, they are moving south right now. they dropped some rain in isolated areas near the coast, the peninsula and there was a report of light rain in napa earlier. the big story is this afternoon and this evening when the chance of showers and thunderstorms, lightning and hail rolls in. locally heavy rain and gusty winds out there. the cloud cover is moving rapidly to the south. behind it, 20-mile-per-hour to 30-mile-per-hour winds. we had gusts up to 54 miles per hour on tamalpais. so the blustery conditions are, in fact, developing. as you head into the afternoon hours, temperatures won't change much. upper 50s to low 60s. notice the yellows and oranges in the north bay, those are the showers and thunderstorms. i'll put a timeframe on it coming up. >> you can track those showers today at any time on your abc7 news app. i'm sure you will also be

checking out the election results as we inch closer to knowing who the next president will be. >> vote counting is still continuing in pennsylvania where joe biden just took the lead when new numbers were released from philadelphia. here's a live look right now as that vote counting happens in philadelphia. there are five states where the race is too close to call. those other states are nevada, arizona, north carolina and georgia. here's a look at the current electoral college map. joe biden leads with 253 votes. president trump 214. >> so let's go state by state. in arizona, with 11 electoral votes, joe biden leading president trump by more than 47,000 votes. georgia has 16 electoral votes. biden leading there by 1,096 votes. that happened while a lot of you were sleeping. now, in nevada, six electoral votes, biden leading there by more than 11,000 votes. the largest gap is in north carolina where president trump is leading with nearly 77,000 votes. there are 15 electoral votes

in fact, you can see it in the upper left-hand corner of your screen. heading to the lunch hour, showers and thunderstorms breaking out in the north bay and then sliding rapidly -- actually not too rapidly, slowly down the coast. by 11:00, looking at scattered showers and thunderstorms outside of the north bay and tomorrow morning we wake up and there's still a slight chance in the south bay. look at the rest of the weekend, it will be blustery and chilly. it's looking pretty dry saturday and even again on sunday when that secondary low blows through and brings us even faster winds, especially along the coast. rainfall potential out of this storm, it's going to be sporadic because the showers will be scattered, anywhere from a couple hundredths to a quarter inch of rain. speaking of those winds, how are the bridges this morning, jobina? >> you led right to it because we have high wind advisories for the bay bridge and san mateo bridge. bringing out the map to show you all that green, hardly any slowdowns heading out the door. live look in san jose, showing

we are tracking breaking news in the last 30 minutes joe biden has taken the lead over president trump in pennsylvania. he's now ahead by nearly 6,000 votes with 135,000 ballots left to count. the reason you're looking at this is because this is the vote counting center in philadelphia. not a lot of action going on there this morning. but we do know we got a vote dump from them and that always sounds weird to say, that's how they put it. this is partially the reason why we're seeing the lead now for joe biden. that means that biden is leading in four of the five critical races that have yet to be called. overnight biden also took the lead in georgia. he's ahead still in nevada and arizona. president trump holding his lead in north carolina, but we pretty much have known since tuesday that was going to be the case probably throughout. we'll see what happens throughout the morning. happening today, stanislaus

county attorneys are headed back to court to seek the death penalty for scott peterson. peterson will appear over zoom. the county is retrying the penalty phase of the trial after his former sentence was thrown out by the state's supreme court over an impartial jury. san mateo superior court is taking up the issue of the conviction itself. scott peterson was found guilty of killing his pregnant wife, laci, in 2004. the man who killed a newman police officer during a traffic stop has been sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty. paolo mendoza said he became afraid he would be arrested for dui and shot corporal ronil singh. as part of the plea agreement, mendoza agreed to waive his right to appeal. in return the district attorney's office agreed not to pursue the death penalty. we expect an update from the

santa clara county health department today. they will hold a meeting about covid-19 at 10:00 this morning. t a top bay area doctor consulted joe biden's team on the pandemic. he dug into policy changes with other experts on zoom yesterday. he explained the success of san francisco's model. the doctor says the biggest hurdle is rebuilding trust in masking, testing and vaccination. what we need is clear national standards about in this community or this state or this region your cases are above a certain number, your test positivity is above a certain number. the recommendation is therefore you keep these things open and you close these things. >> the strategy may include a national mask mandate or even a national lockdown. if you have questions about coronavirus we want to help you find some answers.

so adorable. let's look at what's going on. look at the winds on tamalpais. 34 to 56 miles per hour. you can even see from this vantage point that the bay looks angry. it will get choppy with white caps possible. blustery up to 25 degrees cooler. scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon through tomorrow morning. the weekend is going to be pretty windy and trending drier. temperatures just don't change much today. this is a really impressive cold front. when we're waking up in the mid 50s to low 60s and our highs are in the upper 50s to low 60s,s that an impressive cold front. look at the lows tonight. because of the winds and the cloud cover we won't be quite as cold as we could be. mid to upper 30s, ukiah, lake port and santa rosa. the rest of us in the 40s. let's look at what's going on. you can see that bowl of cold air coming straight down over the eastern pacific and definitely coming towards us.

there's three things on the map i want to show you. the cold front, which is pushing through. and then you can see that patch of orange, which is drier, which is the sunshine for the morning hours. you can see the textured clouds behind that. that's the area of low pressure that will bring us the scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. and also bring us dangerous surf along the coast from 2:00 to midnight, up to 22 feet with erratic waves, sneaker waves, and strong winds. so there's going to be blowing sand, blowing mist. an awful day to be at the coast. not like it was yesterday. we're a 1 on the storm impact scale. temperatures in the 50s to barely 60 today all the way through thursday. watch out monday, tuesday, wednesday morning if you have some tender vegetation, you may have to cover it. frost could be possible in our deepest north bay valleys.

it's friday, november 6th. a lot going on. first we want to check in with meteorologist mike nicco. good morning, mike. >> good morning, kumasi, reggie, jobina. the weather will make some noise today also. we're a 1 on the storm impact scale. while it's been relatively dry so far, this afternoon and this evening we have showers and thunderstorms scattered in nature. the closer we are to the coast, the more you will experience those. all of us will be cooler today with blustery conditions. winds gusting up to 50, 55 miles per hour on mount tam. you can see the clouds, not much radar with that. behind that we have the winds. you can see they're blowing across our east/west bridges this morning wa ing making for e dangerous travel across those. the wins will be just as fast during the evening hours with more chances of wet weather as you can see them develops in the north bay this afternoon and sliding south. what it feels like outside? that's what it will feel like most of the day. upper 50s to low 60s.

>> thank you. now back to jobina as we digest the developments in the presidential election. jobina? >> what stunning developments we've had overnight. biden leads in both pennsylvania and georgia. he holds an edge of more than 5,500 votes in pennsylvania and 1,096 votes in georgia. in pennsylvania there are about 130,000 outstanding ballots, many coming from blue areas of the state like philadelphia. and in georgia, there are still at least 8,000 outstanding ballots. both georgia and pennsylvania are among five states where vote by mail and absentee ballots are being totaled. biden has holds in arizona. president trump is still ahead in north carolina. despite the close margin in the vote count. both candidates remain far apart on how they see what's happening here. >> each ballot must be counted and that's what we're going to

see going through now. and that's how it should be. democracy sometimes is messy. it sometimes requires a little patience as well. >> this is the case where they're trying to steal an election. they're trying to rig an election. we can't let that happen. there will be a recount if the final margin is a half percent. biden would need another 28,000 votes to avoid that recount. so let's look at the electoral map right now for everybody so you can see five undecided states appear to be in white. president trump has won the states in red, biden has captured those in blue. the "washington post" reports the secret service will increase protection for biden in case he declares victory. now to a tense situation in the east bay. police were called to a brentwood home after an apparent

group driving to pennsylvania to target the convention center. police rarrested one person, uncovered a weapon and impounded a truck with a qanon sticker. protesters erupted all over the country especially in battleground states, one of president trump's supporters in maricopa county, arizona insisted they just want a fair election. >> we are not here for any conspiracy theory. we're not here for violence. we're not here to fight. >> people were arrested overnight in new york city after hundreds of people marched in manhattan and in portland three people were arrested after protesters lit a fire at city hall and targeted a commissioner's home. republicans are divided on president trump's claims that vote counting has been rigged against him. south carolina senator lindsey graham has even pledged $500,000 to mr. trump's legal defense fund. graham chairs the senate judiciary committee and just won re-election. house minority leader kevin

mccarthy of bakersfield also supports trump's claims. but mitt romney tweeted "have faith in democracy and our constitution and in the american people." as final votes are being counted you can count on a legion of lawyers getting ready to figure out where there are opportunities for court intervention. abc7 news reporter julian glover has been hearing from bay area attorneys to get an idea of the potential strategy. >> good morning. at this point it's clear president trump and his legal team's strategy is to slam the courts with lawsuits in key battleground states in areas like pennsylvania, michigan and georgia and in those areas where the lead is razor thin. but in most cases those legal efforts, they failed to gain traction or effect significant numbers of vote. issues raised by the trump team range from mail-in ballots to voting deadlines to access to counting centers. now the cases so far have been heard in state courts given the

legal challenges, but jonathan miller of the oakland-based public rights project said this could be the beginning of a larger strategy. >> they're going to do whatever they can to get a case into federal court and try to get something that might effect the outcome of the election. >> federal courts are historically more hesitant to intervene without a clear federal issue at play. with the 2000 bush versus gore race and case being the exception where the supreme court halted a vote recount in florida. the big difference here between now and 20 years ago, it does not appear the outcome of this election is hanging on any one state with former vice president joe biden at least appearing at this moment to have several paths to 270 electoral votes. if he does capture pennsylvania as we've been reporting this morning, he will earn the necessary votes to clinch the presidency. reporting live this morning, julian glover, abc7 news. >> thank you.

bush versus gore was 20 years ago. wow. we've been updating election results on our website for all the races including the state and local ones. for the latest any time just go to abc7news.com/election. the u.s. set another covid-19 daily case record. more than 120,000 infections recorded on thursday. many states are also breaking records for the daily number of cases, that includes colorado, illinois, minnesota, pennsylvania, utah and wisconsin. a new study from the cdc shows that working in an office setting instead of remotely may double the risk of contracting covid-19. the agency says bosses should allow and encourage employees to work from home to help slow the spread of the virus. about 300 full-time nonessential workers took part in the study back in july. everyone involved took a covid-19 test. the cdc says that most of the people who tested positive reported commuting regularly to work. the next time you visit the doctor, dentist or take your pet to the vet, you may have to pay for covid-19 surcharges.

seems to be the case with our extreme weather lately. we go from one extreme to the other. scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon through tomorrow morning. the weekend is windy, blustery, but it's trending drier. here's a look at what's going to happen this afternoon. you can see temperatures don't warm much at all. 59 to about 62 degrees. tonight a few leftover showers, that's the green you see, even some snow possible in the highest peaks up in lake county. temperatures in the 30s in our deepest north bay valleys. the rest of us in the 40s thanks to the breezes keeping us from getting much cooler. the cold front is well south of us. here's the area of low pressure coming in later today, that will squeeze out the showers. in between you see that patch of orange, that's sunshine this morning. make sure you take the sunglasses. now with that low coming in, some really gnarly weather, nautical, if you will, along the coast we'll have breakers up to 22 feet from 2:00 to midnight. so it's going to be rather

all right. it's 6:58, here's the 7 things to know this morning. joe biden now holds the lead over president trump in pennsylvania with more than 5,500 votes. the latest ballot counts came in from philadelphia and we are expecting to receive more votes counted from the largely democratic city. number two, biden also grabbed the lead from president trump in georgia overnight with a 1,096 vote advantage. more ballots are being counted in georgia. many are from the atlanta area, which will likely favor biden. a win in either pennsylvania or georgia would propel biden past 270 electoral votes. number three, philadelphia police have stopped a suspected attack on pennsylvania's convention center. one arrest has been made and
