by political mischief and a national mask effort, whether it's a mandate quote unquote or a real push for everybody to wear a mask, clear if everybody did wear a mask, we would be saving hundreds of thousands of lives. we need a much more intentional strategy around testing and contact tracing, as opposed to kind of random set of strategies that we have now. there is a whole set of activities, it's not rocket science that is a plan, what is the plan? how do we implement it and get people to do the right thing? that's the way they are thinking about this. >> do you think we need a national lockdown like the u.k. is doing right now? you mentioned europe. they're having an even worse spike than we're experiencing at this point. >> i don't think we need a national lockdown for example in san francisco or the bay area, we don't need a lockdown per se. we need what we have, a set of standards here that has been what the state has done and i think you can sort of mirror the
4:34 pm
state of california and what it's done to basically say here is a set of rules and numbers and if you're meeting those standards, you can open up and if not, you have to back down. we've done that beautifully in the bay area. what there needs to be is a national set of standers that are like that that basically says if you're doing okay, as we're doing in san francisco and the bay area, okay, you can open up but do it carefully if things start going off the rails, you need to back down again. it's a hodgepodge of standards and some regions and states have no standards at all. and the problem is you might say they're free to do what they want. unfortunately, first of all, it terrible because they're seeing case rates that are going through the roof and people will die because of it and also, there are no borders between the states and between the cities so what one state does and one person does influences what happens to all the rest of us. so that kind of freedom just doesn't work in a pandemic. we're all in this together. >> yeah. that's why we're up over 100,000
