in-person classes at schools and colleges and shutting down group colleges in gyms and casinos and movie theaters. the three-week pause is drawing criticism from one of president trump's top health advisers. dr. scott atlas responded by tweeting, the only way this stops is if people rise up. the tweet quickly slammed by critics claiming it incites violence. it comes six weeks after governor gretchen whitmer was the target of an alleged kidnapping plot. >> we know the white house likes to single us out in michigan, me out in particular. i'm not going to be bullied into not following reputable scientists and medical professionals. >> reporter: atlas denies he was suggesting any kind of violence. meanwhile, in texas, el paso facing a desire situation. coroners so overwhelmed by the influx of covid victims, prison inmates are helping move bodies into mobile morgues. in new york, officials outraged over scenes like this. hundreds of people packed into an illegal warehouse party. a blatant violation of safety orders. the governor warns the months leading up to a vaccine will be the hardest. new york city and other cities are now facing new testing

challenges and delays as travelers rush to get results before thanksgiving. >> we agreed that everybody would be tested in order to be able to go. my father is somewhat compromised at 80 years old and my mother is getting up there as well, so we want to make sure that they're safe. >> just because you test negative doesn't mean that you might not be incubating and might have been exposed in the time that it took to get the test result back. every social interaction carries a little bit of risk with it. >> and north dakota is one of several states in the middle of the country where hospitals say they're overwhelmed. listen to this. there was only one icu bed available sunday in the state's capital bismarck. as coronavirus cases spike across the country, walmart is once again counting customers. the retailer has resumed monitoring the number of people entering and leaving its stores to make sure they don't exceed 20% of store capacity. it's also encouraging curbside pickup and online shopping.

new details overnight about the transition of power in washington with president-elect biden's transition team still being delayed. now there's word that president trump's lawyers are changing strategies at least in pennsylvania where they're dropping a legal claim. elizabeth schulze has the latest. >> reporter: the president is again refusing to concede to president-elect biden, and now trump's legal team is facing another setback as they try to reverse the election results. this morning, president trump is abandoning a major part of his legal challenge in pennsylvania. the trump campaign is dropping a claim in the lawsuit that accuses officials of unlawfully blocking observers from watching ballot counting in philadelphia and pittsburgh. the setback comes after president trump appeared to briefly acknowledge biden's election victory tweeting sunday he won but quickly adding, i concede nothing while continuing to spread unfounded claims about fraud. this weekend, thousands of trump supporters flooded the streets

of washington, d.c. as night fell clashes with counterprotesters led to 20 arrests. former president obama says it's time for trump to concede. >> a president is a public servant. they are temporary occupants of the office by design. and when your time is up, then it is your job to put the country first and think beyond your own ego. >> reporter: a new report says president trump is planning a last-minute crackdown on china possibly creating a foreign policy challenge for the biden administration. according to the website axios, trump may announce new sanctions for trade restrictions against china in his final weeks in office. a spokesman for the national security council tells axios the actions would be designed to be politically suicidal for the next administration to do undo. president-elect biden is still

blocked from coordinating with federal agencies including the planning for the distribution of a coronavirus vaccine. dr. anthony fauci is calling for a smooth transition. >> it's almost like passing a baton in a race. you don't want to stop and then give it to somebody. you want to just essentially keep going. >> reporter: and joe biden's advisers are expected to meet with vaccinemakers this week, but first biden will be speaking about his plans for the economy with a joint appearance with vice president-elect kamala harris in delaware. mona. president trump's allies are looking to create a more conservative alternative to fox news. "the wall street journal" says a firm with ties to the president is exploring a buy-out of newsmax, which is a pro-trump cable channel. the president and his supporters have criticized fox news for declaring joe biden president-elect. heavy rains and strong winds ripped through the upper northeast with rare tornadoes warnings posted around new york city overnight. look at the power of that wind. this was the scene in manhattan and the storms are blamed for

750,000 power outages from michigan to massachusetts. wind gusts of more than 70 miles per hour sent trees crashing. earlier in the day the system roared through ohio. this tree falling on to a home. crews were working to restore power there. and it extended north. high winds sent this flying in toronto, canada. we'll look at today's forecast in just a moment. after a 24-hour weather delay, four astronauts launched into space from the kennedy space center in florida. it's the first time the spacex rocket is flying a crew to the space station. nasa confirmed overnight that engineers had to fix a problem with propellant heaters on the crew's capsule. experts say it wasn't a major problem. those watching the historic launch last night said it's just what the country needs right now. >> it's just incredible what humans have been able to accomplish and be able to do now in 2020, and in such a crazy

year, we have finally some great news. so it's really wonderful. >> the four astronauts are expected to arrive at the space station tonight and look at this. a long exposure photo showing the rocket's trajectory towards space. let's take a look at your monday morning forecast. that violent storm system we mentioned has moved out of the northeast bringing in much colder air. temperatures across the region today will be mostly in the 30s and 40s. meanwhile, a new storm is moving into the pacific northwest and northern rockies. expect snow at higher elevations today with rain along the coast. seattle and portland will be in the 50s. much warmer in southern california and the southwest, mostly in the 60s across the middle of the country. chilly around the great lakes. 38, minneapolis, 51, chicago. coming up, a passenger plane hits a bear on the runway.

involved in a deadly incident over the weekend. it hit and killed a brown bear after landing in alaska. it damaged the plane's engine. no one on board the plane was hurt. we have new details this morning about a remarkable story of survival. a hiker stranded for hours on a mountain in frigid conditions died in the hospital. his heart stopped beating for 45 minutes, but then doctors brought him back to life. abc's megan tevrizian has more from the hiker and his doctors.

>> reporter: this morning, one hiker back from the dead. >> when i woke up, i just really didn't comprehend what had happened. >> reporter: after getting lost on mt. rainier, michael knapinski was found by rescue crews clinging to life after spending hours overnight in 16-degree weather. >> and it just got a complete whiteout. i just remember being lost, and i was taking really small steps because i couldn't see anything in front of me. >> reporter: emergency crews scrambling to save him. helicopter crews spotting him stranded near a ravine on the side of the mountain. his body temperature only 70 degrees as they rushed him to a seattle hospital. and just minutes after e.r. doctors took over, knapinski flatlined. >> his heart stopped right in front of us. he was as close as somebody can be without actually, you know, us declaring him dead. >> reporter: doctors jumping into action administering cpr and using a machine to keep him alive by pumping his blood

outside of his body. finally after 45 minutes, his heart started beating again. >> he was one of the coldest people that i have seen arrive to the hospital lose their pulse, have a cardiac arrest and survive. >> reporter: despite severe frostbite and some complications with his kidneys, doctors say knapinski is expected to fully recover. >> i'm extremely grateful with everybody here at the hospital for not giving up on me. i'm alive and breathing. nothing short of a miracle. >> reporter: knapinski says after surviving this ordeal, his new calling in life will be helping people. he previously volunteered at the salvation army and built homes for foster children which he plans to continue doing after his recovery. kenneth, mona. >> megan, thank you for that. a homeless man charged with attacking rick moranis. police the 67-year-old "ghostbusters" star was punched and knocked to the ground last month.

health scare. he spoke exclusively with george stephanopoulos. fox has lived with parkinson's disease for nearly three decades but he told george about another battle he's fighting after a frightening discovery back in 2018. >> i felt another thing happening was a numbness in my legs and my limbs and turned out i had a tumor on my spine. >> i remember when you first learned about the tumor and had to make this decision whether or not to have the surgery. it wasn't really a choice, was it? >> they told me i couldn't reverse any of the neurological damage done but i could perhaps stop it from progressing, but failing that, it would progress to the point i'd be paralyzed. >> later on "good morning america," fox talks about learning to walk again and when he hit rock bottom. in sports dustin johnson says he's fulfilling a lifelong dream by winning the masters. johnson set a new record finishing 20 strokes under par and claiming his second major championship. his brother austin who is his caddie was crying as johnson finished his round. tiger woods helped johnson into his new green jacket.
