trials. it's highly effective at preventing disease. as you well know, abc 7 is committed to keeping you fully informed about every development with the covid-19 vaccine. >> kate larsen is live in the newsroom to explain why the data on this third potential vaccine is so encouraging. >> i have to admit when i got the e-mail from astrazeneca and the trial date, my heart skipped a beat. because the astrazeneca vaccine could be more accessible to a lot moore people around the world. that's because early data indicates that its vaccine is highly effective. the executive says that when trial volunteers got half a dose of vaccine, followed by a full dose a month later, it was 90% infective. whereas two full doses one month apart was 62% effective.

>> if can you start with half a dose we will have more vaccine available, and we can start vaccinating a larger group of people around the world. >> but why would less vaccine product produce a stron immune response? figure out what exactly is happening within the data. but one speculation is that the smaller dose is more similar to the actual infection. >> no serious safety issues turned up in the analysis based on trials in the uk and brazil. astrazeneca trials were paused when a participant became ill. i was there as volunteers got injected in san francisco, including san jose residents. we don't know if you got placebo or the actual product. but ten days after the injection, how are you feeling? >> we haven't felt any side
