5:01 am
cloudy, a little foggy especially across the north bay as we expected. thankfully this cold front has been quiet. the winds are starting to pick up in the north bay and the hills, the fog won't last nearly as long as it usually would. that wind will shove it out of the way heading through the morning commute. it will be breezy and cooler this afternoon. yesterday, a lot of us were in the mid to upper mid to upper 50s along the coast. we'll look at your thanksgiving forecast coming up. now to the deadly toll the coronavirus is taking on the u.s. more than 2,000 people died from covid-19 yesterday. that marks the deadliest day in more than six months. right now more than 88,000 americans are hospitalized. for the 22nd day in a row, the u.s. has reported more than 100,000 new cases. as those numbers rise, the cdc is considering shortening the quarantine period for people who have been potentially exposed.
5:02 am
currently it recommends two weeks, but they could change guidelines to 7 to 10 days. a person would need a negative test before ending quarantine. dr. anthony fauci says he can understand why the cdc might want do this. he spoke this morning on "gma." >> when you have the full extent of the quarantine time, it makes people reluctant to get tested because they don't want to say, well, i'm tested now i have to stay out of work, i may lose money. i'm not getting subsidized and i might even lose my job. >> dr. fauci is saying if you shorten the quarantine period people will feel more confident they can keep their jobs if they have to quarantine after testing positive. as we head into the holiday weekend, dr. fauci has this message for the american people. >> vaccines are right on the horizon. if we can just hang in there a bit longer and continue to do the simple mitigation things that we are talking about all the time, the masks, the distancing, the avoiding crowds,

5:04 am
surge in covid-19 cases. now meanwhile airports are doing what they can to help passengers feel safe. >> today, for example, we have a checkpoint with ten lanes. in the past for a certain volume of travelers we might open six of those lanes. now we open up as many as we need to so passengers don't have much of a queue at all. te whole idea is to allow passengers to social distance while queued up for tsa screening. >> the city of san francisco listed some holiday travel guidelines on their website. they say if you must travel to know the situation in the city that you're traveling to. if it's a high-risk area you may need to take extra precautions. they're advising to get tested before you return back to the bay area. once you do return, they suggest that you self-quarantine for 14 days. airlines are reminding all passengers to arrive at the airport two hours before your domestic flight.
