don't have to deal with these fast winds hitting 30 in st. helena and 40 in when that sun hits, it will warm nicely. 60 to 66 degrees this afternoon. >> thank you. investigators think this apartment fire in fremont may have started in a kitchen on thanksgiving. 17 people are displaced. the flames broke out after 7:00 last night in this apartment building on francis ccan court. the fire destroyed the unit it started in and damaged eight more. the red cross is helping a lot of these people displaced. happening now, a black friday like we've never seen before. a lot of people are turning to the internet for deals instead of in-person shopping but not everybody. liz kreutz is at the best buy in dublin. what are you seeing out there

now? >> it's so quiet. it's so not what we're used to on black friday. it's 2020 and things are didn't. it's very calm here. doors are open. they've been open for an hour now. it's not even at capacity inside. if you want a good deal on tvs and technology, come on down because it's pretty safe. good deals on things. tv sound systems, speakers. one of the guys we talked to just left and is feeling successful. >> you came for the ps5 in theory. you're walking away with a -- >> a brand-new 50-inch tv. >> not bad. >> not bad at all. i was hoping to get the ps5 later. this is my first tv i purchased moving into a brand-new apartment soon. i said this will be perfect for me. >> remember, best buy is not selling the ps5 in the store but

he got that 50-inch tv for $287. i would say that's a good deal. he did get here early for it. he did line up around 3:30 this morning. you saw the lines around 5:00 a.m. that's when the doors opened. we saw those lines about 75 people, but once the doors opened, things moved quickly. it's quiet right now. no lines. a very different black friday. 51% of people said they do not feel comfortable shopping in stores this holiday season. that's reflected here this morning. a couple people going inside but very quiet this black friday. >> it looks like a hoodie is the way people are dressing this morning. thank you. there are no ps5s at the physical best buy stores, but a lot of people are wondering if

they have them at gamestop. some of them are finally awake. they have been wrapped in blankets and in some cases just trying to snuggle up to each other to keep warm. we spoke with one man who has been there since 8:00 wednesday night. >> we're out here waiting for the ps5. it's a next generation console. it's a big deal for us. i had this, a bunch of jackets on, blankets, it was still freezing. >> that's dedication. >> the ps5 went on sale earlier this month but sold out real quick. it's just coming back in stock at some stores. between black friday and cybermonday is another shopping holiday, maybe even more important this year than ever. business saturday. a new american express poll shows that 3 out of 4 people do plan to shop local for the holidays to support small businesses during this pandemic. experts suggest you plan ahead if you're going to a store.

he would leave the white house when biden gets inaugurated, but he refused to say whether he would attend the inauguration. he also refused to address rumors of a 2024 presidential run. now to the latest covid-19 headlines. the bay area looks to be on track to reach 150,000 cases very soon. the "san francisco chronicle" reports that ucsf is one of seven california hospitals that will be among the first in the world for early distribution of pfizer's covid-19 vaccine once it's approved by federal officials. and despite warnings not to travel, more than 6 million people passed through airport tsa checkpoints around the country before thanksgiving. the cdc says the nation's death toll could top 321,000 in the next three weeks. abc7 news reporter mona kosar abdi gives us a look at how hospitals are coping. >> reporter: this morning hospitals sounding the alarm as icus reach record highs for the 17th day in a row. >> it's an overwhelming experience. it's an overwhelming problem. it's an overwhelming disease. >> reporter: nearly 90,000 americans in hospitals across the nation, almost double the

dr. cameron garrett and his wife debra recently adopted her from muttville senior dog rescue in san francisco. dr. garrett started bringing her into work because she's so small and he didn't want to leave her home. patients respond to her very well. and some book their appointments based on whether kizme tsh esh e there. >> it's ironic we could end up with a mascot who is toothless who could show our patients the ultimate bad result of not caring for your teeth. >> what is it like being a dental therapy dog? >> i like having a dog in my lap. >> kismet does not have formal therapy dog training but she also doesn't have any teeth. she currently works two days a week. we can't wear her out, mike. >> no. >> you pace yourself. >> that's a lot of kissing and licking that she's got to do. i think it's a great idea. what do you think? >> i love her. >> me, too. she looks happy. >> she does. >> she looks like she enjoys being the queen of the office. >> i had not thought of it that

way. but, yes, i run this office. twice a week it's mine. for so many people going to the dentist is a traumatic experience. anything you can do to calm them down, i think that's fantastic. of course i'll defer to the higher power above me when she wakes up. 46 in the east bay hills with a gust up there in the higher elevations. that's probably why the altamont pass has that wind advisory. let's look at what's going on with our highlights. sunny and mild. breezes will back down, even in the hills as we head through today. morning frost again tomorrow morning, sunday and an extended period of dry weather as we continue to not find wet weather for us. you can't find a cloud on the satellite picture. look how far the jet stream is apart. there is a southern branch and a northern branch, they both go into different countries before eventually meeting up in the midwest and into the northeast and bringing those areas some wet weather. even that is going to move

offshore eventually. everybody is going to be dry for a while. here's a look at our temperatures today. the thing that sticks out is the 58 at half moon bay. you're the only one not in the low to mid 60s. tonight, look at that. there are definitely more 30s out there than 40s. only 40 in oakland, san mateo, half moon bay and 46 in san francisco. the rest of us in the 30s. my accuweather 7-day forecast, other than a few high clouds sunday, maybe a degree or two cooler. steady. definitely cooler with a dry cold front monday. that's only a couple of degrees. tuesday, wednesday, thursday, we're still right where we are today. >> thank you. >> economic stimulus programs that provided lifelines for millions of people are set to expire at the end of the year. >> bay area residents are not exempt from these concerns. in the east bay the commitment to giving back this year was as strong as ever. oakland city leaders and dozens of volunteers gathered to distribute hundreds of meals. this event was modified because of covid restrictions. more than 1,000 meals were made by oakland chef jose ortiz and his local restaurant. >> i think we did about 75, 80, people don't realize in this city and any other city, people go hungry, whether it's thanksgiving day or not thanksgiving day. recipients were also offered personal protective equipment like mask, gloves, and sanitizer to help them get safely through the holidays. in san francisco, this is the 51st year that glide has served thanksgiving brunch, but

it is the first year that food was prepared inside, boxed up, and then served outdoors. the plan was to serve more than 2,000 meals, including 200 boxed lunches delivered to homeless encampments around the city. san francisco's police chief, sheriff and fire chief joined lawmakers in giving back to seniors. the 35th annual self help for the elderly thanksgiving luncheon was held in chinatown. it's usually a sit-down event, this year they had to change that. meals are delivered to more than 1,000 seniors across the city. >> it is an honor for us in the fire department to serve every community in this city. >> this has been a very, very hard year. i know we'll get through it working together. it's a different thanksgiving but we're going to beat this pandemic. >> this year personal protective equipment also came with the meals. there are a lot of people needing help this holiday season. give where you live and make a

difference. go to abc7news.com and you'll find a donation link on the home page. 50 states including california are working to perfect a covid cell phone alert system. health officials who do contact tracing would be able to use it to ping anybody who has come into contact with a person who tests positive with the virus. researchers are trying to iron out coding that would enable this through your phone's bluetooth settings. ucsf is working with california on the state's version of the program. santa clara county officials want to make sure everybody knows and is wearing their mask correctly. they released this video on twitter writing we know the struggle is real but your nose is not the exception to the rule. give it the coverage it deserves. in other words, pull the mask up. delta launched a new covid testing program that would allow you to go to italy without the required quarantine. the plan is exclusively for

flights from atlanta to rome. delta and the two airports will require passengers to take rapid tests before departure and upon arrival. as long as they're negative in each place, you'll be except from quarantine in italy. right now americans are only allowed to go to italy for essential travel including work or education. one of the stars of abc's the good doctor is opening up about his battle with covid-19. richard schiff refeels he was hospitalized with it. adding that before he was admitted he felt like he couldn't breathe. three weeks after testing positive he says he is still dealing with physical issues and is urging americans to take this virus seriously. his wife, actress sheila kelly, who plays his wife on the show, also tested positive. reimagined because of the pandemic. for the first time they're holding this at the history park and it will be a drive-through experience to avoid crowds. tens of thousands of lights will be on display along with a choreographed light show set to music that you play through your video in the car. you can make a reservation online and it costs $10 to $20 depending on your time slot. christmas in the park moved out of the plaza de chavez this year. the park is usually full of vendors, rides, an ice skating rink but that can't happen because of the pandemic. so the downtown association rallied up some sponsors, lit up the streets and put up a 26-foot modern christmas stree tree as center place. >> there is no way we're going to leave the heart of the city dark, especially during this time when everyone needs to be uplifted. >> it feels like there is still a sense of joy. there is still a reason to remember how this time of year
