taking shape from the government. >> nothing is final, but we do have a better idea of who will get the vaccine first. an important move from the cdc committee recommending who should get the covid-19 vaccine first. the first shipments are expected to begin two weeks from today, the first will be health care workers and those that live in nursing homes and then essential workers, police, firefighters, teachers. the third grup oup is made of americans adults 65 and older or high risk medical condition. a race against the clock as cases surge. >> if we can pull together as a country and in the next 60 days vaccinate all of these residents we can cut the death rate in half. >> the government recommends 40 million doses ins it hands.

while the cdc can set guidelines when it comes to priority, it is ultimately up to the states to make the final decision. abc 7 news reporter kate larson spoke with reporters eager to get the vaccine themselves and the distribution challenges facing california. >> it is unavoidable for me to be in close contact with people that have covid. the vaccine makes me at ease. >> reporter: she is an emergency room doctor and treats covid patients in the bay view. >> it is nerve-racking every day. i have not gotten used to it. >> reporter: she knows about 20 bay area health care workers infected with covid. >> i was surprised of the number of my colleagues skeptical of this. >> reporter: a liaison for the cdc committee voting tuesday that health care workers and

people exposed to the virus. it was two weeks and now seven days. bipartisan group of lawmakers is pitching a $908 billion relief package and not included is another round of stimulus checks. los angeles reported nearly 7,600 daily coronavirus cases. >> getting answers on how schools will reopen and stay open during the pandemic. today, oakland unified laid out plans for having students returning to the classroom. j.r. stone spoke with school leaders, teachers, parents and students about the plan. >> it is hard not being able to see my friends. >> reporter: these kids are ready to go back to school. the brother and sister combo with play on the black top with each other and a select bubble of people. >> i really want to. first of all, i will be able to see all of my friends. >> reporter: the oakland unified

school district submitted a reopening plan with a target start date of january 25th. the teachers union wants to go back, they say it needs to be safe to do so. >> community is serving our black and brown students have, you know, high covid rates. i am not optimistic. >> reporter: those in the district understand that and currently the county is in a purple tier and can't open schools until you are in a red tier. but oakland unified as a goal of opening in orange tier. >> that is arguably not go to happen. >> that is reassuring news to sofia's dad, juan. >> i don't feel comfortable. we are seeing the third wave. all of the talks about the vaccines. who knows when it would be available.

>> j.r. stone, abc 7 news. >> we could see tougher covid restrictions as soon as tomorrow. mayor london breed said that more restrictive action is necessary. >> this is about saving lives. everything we are asking you to do over the coming weeks or months is about that, saving lives. >> the city says san francisco's covid-19 cases tripled over the last three weeks. >> san francisco mayor's london breed's office confirms she attended dinner in a restaurant, now the third california politician facing criticism. the dinner happened a day after the governor attended a birthday party at the same restaurant. another admits to attending a gathering on thanksgiving. breed's office said she attended a friend's family birthday dinner at the open air table. state guidelines impose a three

household limit on such events. a statement from the mayor's office said she dined out and has always been cautious when she is dining out. >> the san jose mayor admitting he went against covid-19 recommendations and apologized for his decision to gather with my family contrary to the rules and attended an outdoor thanksgiving dinner with five households. >> one of the bay area's oldest tech giants is moving out of the silicon valley. hewlett-packard, one of two companies created with the split of hp is movings it headquarters to houston. some silicon valley leaders are not too worried, yet. >> reporter: when an icon that built silicon valley decides to

is kids and art. >> our community helped them to be kids again. they are suddenly smiling and happy and just happy to be in the hospital. >> the youth group rock, really options for city kids had to re-invent their summer camp program and make it virtual. i supported rock for over a decade because all that it does for young people. >> seeing the kids that i knew in second grade and younger and now are adults, successful and healthy and remember me and rock. >> big brothers big sisters always will hold a special place in my heart. >> we quickly developed a friendship, you know, uncle and nephew. close to father and son as you can get. >> people that kept those relationships going. >> this is what the camp used to look like, a safe haven for

children and families affected by cancer and this is it now in the fall of 2020 after two fires merged and roared through much of the 500-acre property. it has taken care of others for decades and now needs time to heal itself. >> i will never doubt there will be okizu next year and we will be someplace. >> every kid ought to have the chance to go to summer camp once in their lives. >> we helped to build confidence and hope and give the kids a chance to see what the great mentors that they have that there are ways to have great lives and hopeful ly always find time for nature. >> thank you my dear friend. >> goodness, ama.

not what we want to hear, but it has been beautiful outside. we need more rain. here is a look from the kgo roof camera. the skies are so clear that we were able to capture the moonrising and it was absolutely glorious. a couple of passing clouds and a system is kicking up the surf. west-northwest facing beaches is where we will have high to extreme risk of sneaker waves and definitely watch out if you are going to be at the coast

enjoying those waves. look at the season to date. we have gotten a measly .13th of an inch in san jose. san francisco, 11% of average. best in santa rosa at 21%. that is not good. 1.44 inches. need more rain and don't have it. a lovely view tonight, mainly clear and chilly temperatures next week will be near or above average. tomorrow morning, the lower to middle 30s. a few patches of fog are not out of the question but we will not see the fog that we saw this morning. high clouds will filter the sun. here is a look at the accuweather seven-day forecast, chilly morning and dry day and it continues right on through the weekend and into early next week. 50s, 60s. minor drops in the temperatures
