19 vaccine soon will be on the way to california and the bay area. an army of medical personnel is ready to take delivery. as "abc 7 news" reporter cornell barnard shows us, the vaccine countdown is on. >> so just a really bright, shining time, even though the weather is not so great today. >> reporter: you see the chief pharmacy executive excited for a special delivery, about 1,000 doses of pfizer's covid-19 vaccine. she's leading the distribution. >> we hope to receive vaccine at ucsf monday, tuesday at the latest, and we'll start vaccinating on wednesday. >> reporter: frontline health care workers will be first in line to get the first of two doses of the vaccine. ucsf, one of seven medical facilities in the state to take delivery first. she says the vaccine won't be mandatory for ucsf employees. >> folks can decline, folks can pause and then maybe in a few

weeks or a month later decide they want to become vaccinated. we are not making it mandatory. >> reporter: u.p.s. and fedex will be transporting the first doses from pfizer's plant in cal au ma zoo, michigan. governor newsom tweeted california has spent the last few months preparing for the arrival of the covid-19 vaccine. we expect our initial 327,600 doses as early as this weekend. hope is on the horizon. >> you know, it is game on. >> reporter: marin county health officer dr. matt willis expects his first doses of by monday. first p stop, the county's emergency operation center where ultra-cold storage units will be standing by to keep it stable at 97 below farenheit. local hospitals will be the next stop. >> we are prioritizing those most at risk right now and most essential for our response. they're our essential frontline workers on emergency departments, icu as well as staff at skilled nursing facilities so hard-hit by the

pandemic. >> reporter: mark schwartz warns the rollout may not be perfect. >> we will have problems here and there, but for the most part i think we've had time to plan. i think it will come off reasonably smoothly. >> reporter: experts say the challenge will be getting enough doses for everyone who wants one. that will take time. ucsf and marin county say they expect to receive more doses late next week. in the newsroom, cornell barnard, "abc 7 news". as the wait for the pfizer vaccine continues, bay area counties are all on joining us now with details, it looks like some may get more doses than others. >> that's right. california is expected to receive over 327,000 doses of the vaccine. the state will divide the doses between counties. first doses will go to medical workers on the front line of this pandemic. counties across the bay area are on stand by as they wait to

receive the first batch of the pfizer covid-19 vaccine. >> the county doesn't have any real say in the priorities, but we are given a tier system and then we help toal elect those doses that we get to the hospitals to make sure they receive what they need. >> reporter: some counties will receive more vaccines than others. santa clara county is expecting more than 17,000 doses, as their covid numbers increase over 1,000 cases a day. >> the health department is going to take it upon itself in our county to provide vaccine for the staff at the skilled nursing facilities, the nursing homes. >> reporter: also among the first to get the vaccine are veterans in long-term health facilities. the palo alto va was selected as one of 37 va sites to receive first doses of the covid-19 vaccine. >> this is just the first allocation, so people should realize it is just a very small amount of vaccine, and we will see vaccine shipments hopefully

each week for the next hopefully months. >> reporter: the hospitals across contra costa county have freezers available for the vaccine, one in concord and another in walnut creek. >> we are setting up time slots for frontline workers to come through and be vaccinated first. we are getting that in place and making sure we have the logistics down. >> reporter: how many doses of the pfizer vaccine is your hospital projected to receive? >> we did put in a request for 4,875 doses, so nearly 5,000. we don't know if we're going to receive that many. >> reporter: contra costa county will receive roughly 10,000 doses. hope is on the horizon. today governor newsom announced california is expecting distribution as early as sunday. in the newsroom, luz pena, "abc 7 news." >> and the horizon is here, luz, many thanks to you. a vaccine can't arrive soon enough because califonia

shots were fired on eastbound interstate 580 near the highway 24 interchange at 9:30 tonight. all lanes on the freeway are now closed so chp can look for evidence. the victims drove themselves to a hospital in berkley. officers are working to determine a motive and identify the suspect. well, taking a live look outside at the golden gate bridge. it is not raining yet, but it will soon. "abc 7 news" meteorologist drew tuma joining us with a look at the timeline. drew. >> yes, dion. we are expecting another round of rain to arrive over the next several hours as a cold front swings through california. so on the storm impact scale, it will be a level one light system we are tracking sunday. the heaviest rain will fall in the morning, the first half of your day, and then into the afternoon those showers become more scattered in nature. but there is a chance we could hear a rumble of thunder, especially in the afternoon. as we fast forward the clock, we will get you into the early

the break-in at the joseph george wine shop happened at about 2:30 this morning. according to the owner, the thief passed up many good bottles and went straight for the, quote, unquote, mona lisa of his collection, several magnums of harland estate cabernet, a vintage from each year from 1992 to 1997. the prized collection is so rare and so valuable it could be worth as much as $45,000. owner burt george says whoever did this knew what they were going after. >> this was a professional wine thief, and it is a professional thief, number one, because they're not going to enjoy it. they're just going to -- i think they did it for somebody else, for some reason, i have this feeling. >> san jose police are investigating the wine heist. harlem estate in oakville called george today asking what they could do to help. for those of you hoping to have dungeoness crab on the

table for christmas your wish could come true. the fish and wildlife department says the season will start on december 23rd. the official opening date was november 15th, but that was delayed twice to protect migrating whales from getting trapped in fishing nets. last year commercial season was also put on hold due to the whal whales. in the northern part of the state it has been delayed because of the quality of the crab meat. let's kick it over to drew toome tuma joining us with more on the weather we are expecting and the rain. >> a lot of us will wake up tomorrow morning to rain moving through your neighborhood. this is one of two storms we are tracking for the week ahead. let's show you live doppler 7 along with satellite tonight. we have a fair amount of cloud coverover head, but we will widen the picture and show you the cold front we are tracking. live doppler 7, along with satellite, the wider picture showing you that rain beginning to move into portions of northern california, and that front will move from north to

south. the north bay, we will see the rain first thing tomorrow morning and the rain will slowly slide south throughout the morning hours. ahead of the cold front temperatures have not only budged over the past couple of hours, you can see most spots in the mid 40s if not lower 50s right now. in fact, these numbers are not going to move very much at all overnight tonight. so essentially these are your overnight lows you see on your screen. as we get into sunday, it is a level one light storm we are tracking. again, it looks like the steadiest of the rain will fall in the morning, and then that rain will taper to more scattered showers in the afternoon. in the afternoon there is the chance, a little bit of instability in the atmosphere that we could hear a rumble of thunder. let's go hour-by-hour. future weather showing you 4:30 tomorrow morning. there you can see the rain in the north bay first, the pops of yellow and orange indicating some more moderate to in fact scattered downpours within that line. as we go throughout the morning, by 9:00, 10:00 a.m., the rain is moving south. we do expect the rain to be in

the south bay through the heart of the bay area as well. then into the afternoon, behind that cold front you can see the showers are scattered in nature, but we will be watching for pop-ups between 5:00 and, say, 6:00 p.m. in the evening before the entire storm system gets out of here early in the morning on monday. so in terms of total rainfall, we'll see anywhere from about a quarter to three-quarters of an inch of rain out of this quick-moving front. so it is a very fast storm system, but nonetheless it is beneficial to us because we need rain, especially this time of the year. highs on your sunday, it is going to feel like december out there, numbers only in the mid to upper 50s as the rain moves through here. not only rain, we'll get some snow as well. a winter storm warning in the sierra from this system. 4 to 12 inches of snow above 4,500 feet, the highest peaks could see almost a foot and a half of fresh powder. we also have a coastal flood advisory because we have the king tides. it is our highest high tides we

a good samaritan paid a cordero man's library fine this week, and the book was overdue by 48 years. in 1972, you see here a boy named tony goodman borrowed a book about pirates from the marin county library, but he never returned it and has been feeling the guilt ever since. that is until his employee, kenny newell, decided to pay his $58 fine all as a joke and as a unique christmas present. newell hopes it won't count against him on his next quarterly review. wouldn't you think it was more than $48 after all of these years? >> how about $58 a day. >> yeah. it has been more than nine months since the warriors were at chase center playing a game, but who is counting? that's a lot of time. we have a

a few of santa's proudest helpers received a boost today to brighten the holidays for thousands of children. macy's donated $3,000 to the marine corps reserve's toys for tots programs in san francisco's union square. the marines will use the money to buy items for children. they also accepted donations of new toys. one marine shared what giving to others means to him. >> it means a lot to me coming from a background that, you know, was raised not having so much. so i can feel for the needy children that, you know, it is

something to look forward on christmas day. >> the marines partner with several nonprofits to deliver toys to children across marin county, san francisco and san mateo county. more than 200 kids got some extra presents under their tree this year thanks to san jose police. the fund is part of the 13 annual shop-with-a-cop heroes holiday shopping spree. usually kids go shopping with a bay area police officer, but this year looked a little different because of the pandemic. third graders got to pick their presents out online with a gift card and then pick them up at the elks lodge today. the parents get a gift card also to buy groceries. the holiday spirit in full swing for the first christmas in chinatown as well. the nonprofit be chinatown delivered 600 toys mostly to new immigrant kids in single-resident occupant housing. many received gift certificates to local restaurants which help keep them afloat during the holidays as well. san francisco community business resources helped sponsor the
