500,000 vaccine doses were delivered and carted into sub-zero freezers. >> this is an extraordinary day because we now are protecting those that have been protecting us. >> for some, today could mark the beginning of the end of this pandemic. >> california is planning on having more of the 300,000 doses of pfizer's vaccine to distribute over the coming days. four different locations in california received a total of 33,000 doses today. that includes san francisco general hospital, st. joseph's hospital in eureka, the naval medical center in san diego, and kaiser's los angeles medical center. >> governor newsom was in los angeles as frontline health care workers were vaccinated today. a nurse had this message of encouragement for the public. >> i also want people to know the vaccine is safe and i want as many made widely available and everyone to take it so we can get rid of this pandemic and get back to normal life. >> the governor says 393,000

doses of pfizer's vaccine are expected to arrive next week. california's also anticipating receiving 672,000 doses of moderna's vaccine if it receives the emergency authorization from the fda. >> now vaccinations in the bay area start tomorrow, and zuckerberg san francisco general hospital received 2,000 doses of pfizer's vaccine. abc7 news reporter jr stone spoke with the hospital's chief of emergency medicine about the roll-out. >> reporter: all quiet outside of san francisco general hospital right now where doses of the covid-19 pfizer vaccine will start being administered in less than 24 hours. >> this really is excellent news. now, we've got tape their with the realization that we are in a really, really bad spot right now. >> reporter: the surge of covid-19 cases that we've seen across the country and the state is also being seen in san francisco, where 148 people are

suffering from covid-19 in the hospital. 37 of those folks in intensive care units. >> we have more san franciscans suffering today from covid-19 than we ever had before. >> reporter: 2,000 doses of the pfizer vaccine are currently at san francisco general hospital. the first tier of frontline workers will start receiving doses on tuesday. dr. christopher coalwell is chief of emergency medicine at the hospital. he will be receiving a dose of the vaccine on wednesday, and says those out there should understand the importance of getting this vaccine. >> and i do honestly believe and really want to emphasize that the risks of this vaccine are lower han the risks of this virus, from everything we have. all the information that we have so far. >> reporter: my facebook page has been inundated with folks still questioning the virus and the vaccine. dr. colwell says yes, many people do recover from the

virus, but many do not. and that is why the vaccine is so important. jr stone, abc7 news. >> jr, thank you. here is a quick look at the icu capacity around the state. if a region hits 15%, that triggers a stay-at-home order. the bay area as a region is at 17.8%. northern california is in the best shape, 29%. but things are really dire in the san joaquin valley. they've run out of icu beds for the second time in three days. meanwhile, in the south bay, vaccinations are set to start tomorrow in santa clara county. that's the bay area county hardest hit by covid. about 13% of icu beds were available today in the county. more than 17,000 doses of the pfizer vaccine are scheduled to arrive there this week. stanford health care expects to receive 3900 doses and plans to start vaccinating its workers on saturday. >> i trust the science says the vaccine is safe. sign me up. i'm ready for it. i'm ready for this to end a lot of suffering for many people.

>> county officials say they also plan to receive 39,000 doses of the moderna vaccine next week. . meanwhile, in the north bay, marin county has been forced to delay its vaccination plan. it was expecting to receive its first doses today, and now they won't arrive until wednesday. this means immunizations won't begin until thursday. public health officer matt willis told abc7 news marin had been at the top of the list to get the vaccine because of its ultra cold storage availability. >> 48 hours over the long-term doesn't make a big difference, and it might give the teams a little bit longer to really be even more prepared. >> marin county is expecting to receive nearly 2,000 doses of the pfizer vaccine, and another 2,000 next week. governor newsom is promising safe and equitable distribution of the vaccine. he launched a new campaign called vaccinate all 58. that refers to all the counties in the state.

abc7 news reporter kris reyes talked to local leaders in some of the hardest hit communities in the bay area to get their input on the best way to accomplish that goal. >> we have to be flexible enough to be responsive to the real lives of the people that we serve. and that's the key, in my mind, to making sure that ekd is achieved when we get these vaccinations out, and that we don't leave anybody behind. >> reporter: that's why supervisor cindy chavez is watching this campaign very closely. vaccinate all 58. governor newsom launched the newly branded campaign with fairness and equity at the heart of it. we reached out to local leaders who serve communities hardest hit by covid-19 in santa clara county. we ask for their ideas on how to deliver on the governor's promise. >> consider people who are forced to go out every day for different circumstances to be some of the first people in line to receive the vaccination. >> we have to make sure same thing that we figure out where
