spencer christian is tracking it. >> the clouds are thicker and darker quickly towards the end of the day and daylight. here is a look at what is going on now. you can see we're dry on live doppler 7 but the approaching storm will drop light rain or showers tonight continuing overnight through tomorrow morning ranks one on the abc 7 storm impact scale. most locations will receive less than .10 of an inch of rain but it is going to produce some wet weather. here is the forecast animation later this evening, first in the forth bay swinging southward and eastward as our storms often do and showers will continue overnight into the early morning hours before giving way to lots of lingering clouds tomorrow but there is a lot more rain on the way after this all the way through the first full week of the new year. i'll give you a closer look at the accuweather forecast in a few minutes. ama? >> spencer, thank you so much. in san francisco, new year's eve came and went out police issuing a single citation. police had warned officers would crackdown on gatherings and illegal fireworks.

us up to more than 4500. that is a new record. that leads us to the regional icu availability map for california. the bay area dropped to 6.3% a record low since tracking started. a san carlos salon is under scrutiny for allegedly operating despite state and county stay-at-home orders. the i-team received this video of someone getting their hair done inside sasha salon last week. we don't know if the person was a paying customer. however, the i-team has learned the salon received a warning notice yesterday from the san mateo county covid-19 compliance unit. we reached out to the salon today but we did not hear back. the new year comes with a new round of support for struggling small businesses. $285 billion will be available in the next extension of the paycheck protection program. this time around, there are stricter rules aimed at ensuring actual small businesses get the money. business owners will have to prove they were in business before february of last year. they have fewer than 300 em

employees and income dipped 25% or more from any quarter in 2019 to 2020 and borrowers will benefit from choosing the time period the funds need to be used by. >> they may not need the cash now but they might see a slow period coming up, you know, there might be a seasonal business and need the funds in a month or two. >> publicly traded companies are not eligible for ppp grants this time. speaker nancy pelosi san francisco home was vandalized overnight and warning, some people may find this image disturbing. graffiti on her garage door with $2,000 crossed out and the words cancel rent and we want everything. and then a pig's head appears to be on the ground. the $2,000 may be a reference to the stimulus money that pelosi pushed for in congress but has not made it through the senate. the graffiti was covered up. the fbi refused to comment on whether it's investigating the incident. we all know that restaurants

12:06 a.m. at ucsf and appears to be the first baby of the new year in the bay area. we spoke with the proud parents this afternoon. >> so went in for a c-section around 11:50. >> 11:50 and i remember the couldn't down and it struck midnight. they said a little happy new year's to everybody and shortly thereafter six minutes after. >> 12:06. so i was getting a c-section and i heard them say happy new year. >> you're like hey, let's just get this done. laura says she went to get induced on december 30th. 36 hours later, when it wasn't going as expected, she had a c-section. this is the couple's first child. congratulations to the family. for a moment we thought a baby born in the south bay in san jose was the first. the family welcomed their third child a boy at 12:25 a.m. congrats to them, as well.

for the vast majority ovef 2021 is poised to be the year to get the covid-19 vaccine. for women pregnant or bea breastfeeding, there is a question whether they should take it. they weren't included in the trials. the medical community says it's safe. >> reporter: alison flower is a front line health care worker and mom to 10 month old lucy. >> she was born in february and we're still nursing. >> reporter: like so many new moms, she has questions about the covid-19 vaccine. >> i thin that all of us want to do what is best for our children. >> reporter: alison is part of bay area beast feeding support, a popular facebook group. myers said many women in the group expressed concerns since pregnant and beast fereastfeedin were not included in the trials. >> is this safe? do i have to wean has come up quite a bit. >> reporter: dr. stephanie gah

is an assistant professor of internal fatal medicine studying the impacts of covid-19 on pregnant women. >> scientifically, there is very, very low risk of anything bad happening during pregnancy with the vaccine, but we don't have any direct proof yet because it hasn't been studied unfortunately. >> reporter: still, dr. gah says the current medical conken sustained is the vaccine is safe. for one, it does not contain live virus, which is something pregnant women are often advised to avoid. it's also a matter of assessing the risk versus the potential benefits. >> the potential benefits of a vaccine working are great. covid-19 is dangerous in pregnancy. >> reporter: both dr. gah and myers say they are advising patients take the vaccine. >> somehow pregnant people become these unicorns that can't have health care. i don't think that's helpful. >> reporter: but until there is more data, it's still a little bit of an unknown.

northern part of the viewing area but you can't see that, any evidence of that over the city scape here in san francisco. 52 here in the city right now. low 50s at oakland, mountain view, san jose, morgan hill 48. half moon bay. here is the view at the golden gate looking northward because that's where the next storm is coming from. 49 degrees at santa rosa, mid to upper 40s in novato, napa, fairfield, concord, livermore. here is a look at the forecast features across the embarcadero. light rain and showers tomorrow night developing now. brief, quiet period will begin tomorrow afternoon and continue through much of sunday but sunday night another storm starts developing that will bring some pretty steady rain on monday. we also have a high surf advisory that will go into effect at 7:00 tonight until 9:00 a.m. sunday. wave heights are growing. there is a danger of sneaker waves and rip currents so if you're down near the coastline, don't turn your back on the water. the approaching storm ranks one on the storm impact scale. light rain and showers once again. rainfall totals we expect less
