prices on essential pandemic i st -- items. toilet paper, masks, 409 of 750 essential products sold by amazon saw a price hike of more than 20% over the past year. now, that's according to a study by the non-profit public interest research group. amazon was first accused of price gouging near the beginning of the pandemic last april. we told you about that. at the time, amazon suspended more than 6,000 sellers. the national highway traffic safety administration has rejected a request to investigate unintended acceleration in teslas. in 2019, you may remember a berkeley man asked for the investigation after there had been 127 owner complaints and 110 crashes. the agency concluded there was no evidence of fault and the accelerations were due to driver error. the environmental protection

agency is reporting for the first time in five years, enough vehicle gas mileage has dropped and pollution has gone up out of each individual new vehicle. the average gas mileage fell 0 .2 miles per gallon. the first time since 2014 that the mileage fell and pollution increased. environmental groups say the change was due to auto makers finding loopholes and knowing the trump administration was moving to rollback those standards. you guys, there is a new sheriff in town as of january 20th. we'll see where things go from here. >> uh-huh. >> all right. thanks, michael. mercedes is debuting a new touch screen system that takes up the whole dashboard. the touch screen stretches from the driver to the passenger seats and lets passengers select their own entertainment functions and countries where it's legal, watch videos using blue tooth headphones when

. a 12-year-old san jose girl took on a new hobby during the pandemic, making. now she's baking her way to the top on a food network >> when i got into baking i baked a lot. i baked two times a day. some of my go-to things are honestly cakes because i usually put a lot of creativity into it. it's a way to kind of vent. you're focused on one thing and that's my way of spacing out. and you can also pour a lot of creativity in that and i really love that. i need today find a passion and hobby since all my sports are pretty much postponed. so i really got into baking. i just put my soul and heart and kind of learned a bunch of different things in videos.

when of the first baking shows was actually the kids baking ship. when i first saw these kids bakic i was like oh, my gosh, these kids are absolute prodigies. and that made be want to learn it, too. there's not really a lot of bakers in my area is insane. so searching for recipes and a little link popped up for kids baking championship, told my parents and i said i want to do this. and i actually got the call back the next day which is really exciting. and when i got there i was like they picked such a good cast because we're so tight-knit. the fact we still keep in touch today is crazy. i'm hoping that i can someday open something that requires food or maybe baking. i think it's definitely going to be a long-term thing and i'll definitely hold onto this. >> she talks about other kids like crazy genius bakers as if she wasn't one of them. she most certainly is. great to watch that.
