building a better bay area for a safe and secure future, this is abc7 news. more fallout from the riot at the capitol that left at least five people dead. law enforcement identifying those responsible as pressure mounts on the president. with that, we say good evening and thank you for joining us. i'm dion lim. to developing news coming on washington now where the calls are growing for president trump's removal following the insurrection at the capitol wednesday. house speaker nancy pelosi is signaling she's ready to take action and it comes as police are not only hunting down but arresting a number of suspects in the attack. here's abc7 news reporter.

president has become unmoored, not just from his duty or even his health but from reality. >> reporter: law enforcement combing through all social media posts, surveillance video and cell phone data. receiving thousands of tips after receiving bolo posters. >> a myriad of federal laws that can be utilized in cases like this. crossing state lines, explosives. >> reporter: 13 people charged in federal court. richard barnett photographed with speaker pelosi's desk and unlawful entry and theft of public property. turned himself in to arkansas. authorities are also looking for this man, accused of planting pipe bombs near the rnc and headquarters. abc washington. >> you've probably seen pictures of a man carrying house speaker pelosi's lectern, adam johnson. taken into custody last night in tampa bay and faces multiple

federal charges. another suspect in the insurrection, nick ox was arrested after he landed last night at the airport in honolulu, hawaii. the hawaii chapter of the proud boys. one republican leader in the south bay accused of supporting wednesday's violence at the capitol through controversial posts on social media. and tonight, there are calls for his resignation. abc7 news reporter cornell barnard joining us live from the newsroom and you spoke to the man behind the post. >> reporter: i did. phil reynolds is elected member of the republican party and posted that the war had begun. who south bay officials say that was inciting violence, both now calling for him to resign. the world was watching wednesday's violent storming of the u.s. capitol with disbelief. santa clara county phil reynolds watching too, posting this and

say citizens take arms. freedom shall prevail. we must defend our constitution to the death. >> i could not believe that this was coming out from an elected representative in santa clara county and that's why when we see something, we need to say something. >> reporter: south bay assembly member evan lowe posted this comment calling on the gop to denounce the violence inside it. >> these guys, this is poisonous and important we hold our public representatives accountable. >> reporter: in another post, reynolds asked his followers, drum roll please, civil war or no civil war? santa clara county supervisor susan ellen burg was outraged. >> senator romney said we need to confront the lies by telling the truth. there was no stolen election. the president incited the violence. >> he had nothing to do with that. >> reporter: phil reynolds denies the president was responsible for wednesday's riot. >> the storming in at the

capitol was wrong. i denounce that. >> reporter: assemblyman lowe and ellenburg calling for reynolds to step down from the gop. he said he has no intention of resigning or removing his controversial posts. >> i spoke from the heart. i was emotional and i'm not going to retract my comments. they were not anything derogatory to any individual. they were not inciting violence. >> in fact, reynolds now says he's calling on lowe and ellenburg to resign their posts because they haven't been effective in office. no comment from the silicon valley gop but in a tweet late wednesday said republicans are unifying in condemning the violation of the u.s. capitol. we are in inalterably against civil disorder from the left or the right. in the newsroom, cornell barnard, abc7 news. >> to a story unfolding, many thanks to you. a few dozen protesters gather at 7th and mission in san francisco to condemn the attack on the capitol.

the united front committee for a mass labor party rally organizing saying they must fight against fascism, white supremacy and capitolism. they believe the incident at the capitol will be the first of many. investigating allegations some of its officers supported or even participated on social media accounts that endorsed the insurrection at the capitol. while it is unclear what was posted, oakland police don't allow employees to affiliate with subversive groups or do anything that disgraces the department. any violation of department policy could result in discipline including termination. in a statement, interim police chief susanm manhiemer said it will not tolerate breach of the trust from any member of the department. new developments with the pandemic. the stay at home order for the bay area is officially being extended. all of this is due to icu availability remaining well below the state's threshold of

15%. san francisco already took action and extended its order indefinitely. california set a record today with nearly 700 deaths because of covid-19. that eclipses the 585 reported on new year's eve and number of newly diagnosed cases is nearly 53,000. that is the second highest daily total we've seen. sutter health will begin making appointments to receive the covid-19 vaccine. it has received the pfizer and moderna vaccines and the rollout is set to begin next week starting with patients ages 75 and older and health care workers. sutter said it will accept appointments online and by phone. both ucsf and stanford have sent similar notices to its patients. a san bernardino county hospital allowed a camera inside its icu this week to show just how hospitals are being pushed to the breaking point. st. mary's medical center in apple valley said it's seen a

constant stream of new patients, most of them with covid-19. the staff is treating 50 icu patients with just 20 icu beds. nurses and doctors say they are working daily to the point of exhaustion. >> people don't take it seriously until they're here with us or until they're on the other line of that phone call talking to their family member for the last time. it is real. it is serious and most of what we're seeing is preventable. >> the nurse you just saw say she's accustomed to seeing death and dying on a daily basis but never to this scale. indonesian airlines, boeing 373 500 crashed into the sea. the air flight 182 lost radar contact at 2:40 p.m. indonesian time after taking off from jakarta.

flightradar.com shows the plane going into a steep dive after climbing to 10,000 feet. that plane had taken off in heavy rain on its way. fishermen found pieces of debris in the water believed to be from the plane. the search is now under way. things did not go as planned in oakland. a helicopter tried to lift a cooling unit but then lost its load which then came crashing down on to the street. and it is always the thought that counts, right? the bay area grandmother that turned to chalk to lift spirits during the pandemic. i'm meteorologist drew tuma. what a sunny start to the weekend we had today but tomorrow, we've got sop changes coming our wa

you've got to take a look at this. a large cooling unit was being lifted off the ground by a helicopter when it suddenly broke loose and fell on to the street below. it all happened on clay street at about 10:15. no one was hurt but as you can see, it sent workers scattering away from the scene. todd barbie standing about 150 feet away. >> it took a split second to realize what was happening and that the cable was failing. and then it just smashed on to the ground and there were guys that were running out of the way that i would estimate some guys that were as close as maybe 10 or 15 feet away from where it hit. >> wow, talk about a close call. the company brought in a crane and removed the damaged unit away. people around the bay area were picking up their tickets for tonight's big powerball

drawing. hard on the heels of friday's mega millions drawing. they were hoping to turn a few bucks into hundreds of millions of dollars. tonight's powerball jackpot is just about $470 million. now because nobody picked up all six numbers in last night's $540 million mega millions drawing, that means tuesday's jackpot soars to $600 million. the combined jackpots are now over the billion dollar mark. be sure to have the abc7 news app with you because we will send out tonight's numbers as soon as we get them. a redwood city grandmother turning sidewalk doodles into creations of art. abc7 caught up with mary kay mitchell also known as chalk granny on her home. a beautiful phoenix above the phrase hope rises. she began her chalk artistry when the shutdown first began. >> i got really board and i got my grandson's crayola chalks out

spain walloped in snow and brought to a standstill. the capitol has gotten a foot, the most since 1971. talk about a winter wonderland. at least four people though have died and thousands trapped. travelers stuck at train stations and their vehicles. airport suspended services as the snow kept falling. the national agency warned there would be more than 24 hours of continuous snow. here in the bay area, things totally the opposite, drew. it felt a little spring-like, to be honest.dion, and get used to the warmer weather. the next seven days is setting up a dry pattern across much of the region. this evening, we have generally clear skies. live doppler 7 right now showing you it's a pretty dry pattern out there as we speak. so let's take a look at where we stand so far in the storm season when it comes to our rainfall

and you can see that we're well below where we should be for this time of the year. anywhere from 18 % to 36% of 36f normal. anywhere from a quarter to a third of the typical rainfall we see by this time in storm season. and the next seven days, we're really not going to add to these numbers. we're talking about sunshine and the potential for record warmth later on on the seventh day. right now though, we're falling back into the 50s. our warmest spots earlier this afternoon made it into the low 60s which is pretty average for this time of year. here's the story we're tracking. live doppler 7 along with satellite. there is a cold front that is moving onshore to the west coast, but as it moves into northern california, it's really going to fall apart. so what you'll notice tonight is an increase in cloud cover and our ocean is becoming more active. so it is more that fact that a high surf warning will go into effect starting at 7:00 a.m.

tomorrow lasting through 9:00 p.m. we're racking a west northwesterly swell which means breakers could be anywhere from 23 to 28 feet high and there's also that risk of sneaker waves and rip currents. so do not go into the ocean water tomorrow because that rip current risk is very high. talk about tonight. we'll find increasing clouds. some patchy fog as well. numbers in the mid 30s to mid 40s but what we're also tracking is the chance of a real isolated sprinkle in the north bay. we're going to stop the clock at huh a.m. tomorrow morning, around ukia. there is the chance of an isolated shower and even along the coast of sonoma early tomorrow morning, there's that chance of a sprinkle. most of us will stay dry and we'll notice tomorrow, it's really a mixture of sun and clouds out there. not as bright as today was, but still, it's a pretty nice afternoon overall. we'll find temperatures in the upper 50s to lower 60s tomorrow

now abc7 sports with chris alvarez. >> what a week it's been for stephen curry. he was named western conference player of the week and curry with a big warriors comeback win over the clippers. golden state trailed by as many as 22 last night but curry caught fire in the third quarter as dubs close it double to 6 heading into the fourth. just had it all working. it was all golden state after that. curry score ad a game high 38. warriors beat clippers by 10. good momentum for a team game against the raptors. >> and then we obviously made

shots and that gave us a lot of confidence, hey, good things are going to happen. basically flipped the game on the head. great for us to get back into the game and keep that momentum into the fourth quarter. pretty awesome. awesome night considering how the first 28 minutes went. >> the warriors g league arena in santa cruz is stanford's home away from home. spencer jones forced the turnover and then oscar to save it and back to jones for the slam. stanford led by 11th at the break. stanford in down and watch out for williams. he just flew right into the picture. no one was guarding them, the freshman continues to show his potential. we'll show it several more times. i mean, this is some sort of athlete. cardinals win. stanford improves to 4-1 in conference play and 8-3 overall. frustrating season for mark fox and the cow bears still looking for the first conference win hosting washington in the second
