last week's capitol siege. the house could vote on an impeachment bill as early as this week. a conviction in the senate is highly unlikely but if successful it could mean president trump could never run for public office again. >> the best thing for the country to heal would be to resign and the next best thing is the 25th amendment. >> reporter: at least 200 lawmakers support the resolution for impeachment but not a single republican has publicly signed on. the latest abc news shows the majority of americans feel the president should be removed from office. kumasi? >> thank you, jobina. bay area leaders are weighing in on the plan to remove president trump from office. reporter amy hollyfield live in san francisco with their reaction. amy? >> hi. democrat leaders here in the bay area that we talked to say they are ready to take the next step and we checked in with a leader

of the republican party here in the city who says not so fast. now house speaker nancy pelosi has said she plans to introduce a resolution accusing the president of willfully inciting violence against the government and demanding that he be held accountable for it. a republican party leader says any action like this will just further divide the nation, not unite it. >> sadly, the person running the executive branch is a deranged, unhinged, dangerous president of the united states. but he has done something so serious that there should be prosecution against him. >> it's evident that the speaker has a personal disdain for the president and letting that get the better of her. it's a bad move, doesn't help the country and it just exacerbates the problem as we have a new president about to be inaugurated. >> reporter: former california

governor arnold schwarzenegger, a republican, posted a seven-minute long video on twitter over the weekend calling president trump a failed leader and says trump will soon be as irrelevant as an old tweet. so that republican speaking out against the president and that video going viral. very widespread over the weekend. live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. happening right now, san francisco police preparing for a possible protest at twitter headquarters in mid market this morning. it comes days after the social media platform suspended the president's account. this is brand new video from overnight of the barricades in front of twitter on market and ninth. now, they're going to be protesting if they show up in front of a basically empty building because workers have is been home since march. we are monitoring the situation this morning. we will bring you more information as we get it. the professional golfers association of america is moving the 2022 pga championship away from the trump national golf club in new jersey.

the board voted to end the agreement with trump bedminster after the riot at the capitol. it's the second time the pga has removed an event from a trump course. to the pandemic, free rapid testing continues today in one of our hardest hit neighborhoods. the line in san francisco's mission district wrapped around the block on sunday. now these tests are for frontline workers and grocery stores and construction ant restaurants. uscf and the latino task force partnerd up to offer resources for this community affected by covid-19. the test positivity rate has been as high as 10% in the mission. >> it is urgent to get testings to the hardest hit areas, not just because it's self-serving for our communities, but because it protects all of san francisco when we ensure people can be identified and help to be isolated. >> this testing site will be open through january 29th, open

every day except thursday and saturday and the results are usually ready in two hours or less. the latest numbers in california the state has reported nearly 50,0 n,00 n,00 0 diagnosed cases. a huge number but a drop from saturday when the state set a single day record. the bay area's icu availability at 3% which is why the stay-at-home order has been extended indefinitely. the threshold we need to go to is 15% to get out of that. the chronicle reports hospitals are seeing an increase in patients with no underlying health conditions. earlier in the pandemic, 7% of covid deaths occurred in people without underlying conditions, that's now gone up to 14%. new at 6:00, the city of mill valley asking goirn newsom permission to reopen outdoor dining. they've asked officials to

peninsula, temperatures in the 40s, city at 38 and san bruno at 50. most of us in the 40s except for the east bay valleys and 35 in napa. a look at future radar for today, a little bit of sunshine you can see late in the afternoon hours before showers develop this evening in mendocino county, but tomorrow as we head through the morning into the afternoon hours, we've got a chance of some scattered showers across the north bay through wednesday morning. the measurable rain will be mainly from santa rosa northward. jobina, how is traffic this morning? >> hi, mike. traffic is definitely much busier today, but we have not seen a lot of crashes which is great news. a live look showing you the bay bridge toll plaza keeping an eye out for metering lights but it is very light here, but as we bring in our emeryville camera, traffic is full as people make their way westbound which is where you are seeing all of those headlights moving towards the maze.

i want to bring in our graphic because we have a mass transit update. bart is recovering from an equipment problem from today so expect a ten minute delay. this is going to be impacting trains traveling through the tube and the sfo millbrae daily city and east bay directions. they are testing ultravite light as a way to fight off the coronavirus. rail transit or smart plans to install uv lights in the air ventilation systems of its fleet of train cars by march. the new system will refresh each train car with clean air every five minutes. uv light has been shown to be effective in killing the virus. bart has also been testing uv lights and new air filters on trains since august. reggie? >> thank you. happening now, a massive search under way for six inmates who escaped the mersed county jail. authorities say they accessed a 20 foot high roof and made a breakthrough for it. >> they made that make shift

charges. they claim per roney pinned grant down with a knee to his neck and his actions led to grant's death. they plan to gather outside the courthouse this afternoon. developing news right now, extremely rough surf around the bay area has led to several search operations along the coastp and some are still active this morning. in pescadero, one person is missing and another in the hospital after the two were swept under the waves searching for mussels on the rocks. cell phone cal fire showed video assisting them at the beach. it's believed the other was swept out to sea. in marin county the search for a san jose man pulled out into the ocean will start back up this morning. the national park service says that the man in his 30s got caught in high surf off point bonita in the marine headlands. kids are safe after rough water toppled the boats they were in off the coast of santa cruz. first responders say four to

five small sail boats overturned outside the harbor and one witness says the waves tumbled them over like dominos. the fire department had extra staff on hand yesterday because of the small craft advisory in effect warning about dangerous surf and all 12 children were rescued without injuries. we could see fresh local done begun nous crab return to the market as soon as this week. crab pots are stacked on boats waiting to head out for the first catch of the season. usually starts in november but fishermen and wholesale buyers had trouble agreeing on a price. the boats are expected to drop their traps this morning and bring in the first catch early wednesday which means you could have fresh crab on the table wednesday night. one of california's famous bird couples is at it again and the world is watching. let's check in with them right now. this is the live camera that is set up near big bear and she was sleeping there, but we can see the egg. isn't that enough? she was sleeping there most of the morning covering the egg, but i think she left.

hopefully she'll be back soon. the she we're talking about is jackie, a bald eagle. she laid this egg over the weekend so now she's been fiercely guarding her turf and keeping it warm. except for right now. well, let's check in with dad. this is the father named shadow and he's been checking in every so often while he forages for food. last week the pair sadly lost one of their eggs to ravens. bald eagles usually incubate their eggs for about 35 days. who is watching the egg right now besides us? >> that's what i'm worried about. the ravens. >> the ravens. >> i can't take that. i hope that does not happen on camera. >> i don't need to watch the circle of life this morning. it's too early for that, mike. >> right. exactly. we want this to be a happy time, not necessarily a study in nature. let's take a look at what's going on, speaking of study in nature, a lot going on but it

especially inland. now here's the unfortunate side effect. we all want some nice weather to be outside, but there's really no rain in the forecast other than the north bay tomorrow and this is next week and the entire state is dry. that means nothing new to the snowpack and then we have a 50% chance of not seeing rain next week, just like we're not seeing rain this week. not what you expect in january. kumasi? >> thank you, mike. former san francisco mayor willy brown is talking about california's slow rollout of the covid-19 vaccine. only about a quarter of the more than 2 million vaccines have been administered. speaking with abc 7 news in a phone interview brown believes in simplifying the process. he gave us his thoughts on why the state's elected leaders chose this cautious rollout strategy. >> they just don't know any better. we people who have been in the world of politics are literally so wedded to the idea of not

making a mistake we don't do anything unless it's allegedly perfect. the vaccine won't work that way. >> brown says he hasn't gotten the vaccine yet and he hopes his rollout plan which he wrote about in the "san francisco chronicle" will capture governor newsom's attention. the nba has no plans to pause their season but after contact tracing and quarantines have thinned rosters. last night's game between the heat and celtics was postponed because miami doesn't have the minimum eight players required due to contact tracing. steve kerr says if it gets to be too much he believes the league will shut down again. >> i'm confident that if we get to a point where we feel like this is dangering people's health and people's lives, then we'll stop. we're trying to listen to the league, listen to our own people

respond to a protest. word is people plan to demonstrate at 8:00 this morning to protest twitter shutting down the president's account. twitter said some of his tweets violated the company's glorification of violence policy. the twitter building where they plan to protest is mostly empty. twitter employees have been working from home since march because of the pandemic. but the protest is scheduled to take place there this morning with twitter officials saying they support the right to protest but that the company's highest priority is worker safety. reporting live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> thank you amy. new developments in the crackdown of the right wing social media site parlor. it's off line. amazon suspended them from the web hosting service pulling the plug at midnight. the social media network became an alternative hub for conservative users but faced

criticism for harboring conspiracy theorieses and disinformation. apple and google have removed parlor from their app stores citing a lack of moderation of posts encouraging violence. president-elect joe biden has picked william burns as director of the cia. he has served in the u.s. foreign service for 33 years and holds the highest rank in the service. biden says burns is a diplomat with decades of experience keeping our country safe and secure. president-elect joe biden will receive his second shot of the covid-19 vaccine. it comes as the race to get people vaccinated runs into some major hurdles. jobina at the live desk with more on why morgan hill illions are going unused. the cdc says of the 22 million distributed so far fewer shots have been administered. a lot of counties nationwide are spending too much time worrying about tiering it.

monday. we'll start with our neighborhood temperatures along the east bay shore. low to mid 40s, 40 to 45 under a part partly cloudy sky. 34 in napa to mid 40s up and down highway 101. low to mid 40s around the bay, the coast, san francisco, the mild spot about 48 degrees. here's a look at san jose,rs 280 at 17, as the backdrop for our commute forecast and watch out for these king tide usual areas that are going to flood starting around 7:00, 8:00 this morning. we have a flood advisory through 3:00. a little bit sooner at our beaches and later in our bays. seasonal weather if you're taking mass transit and the king tide swell i don't know if it will have an affect on any ferry rides. i went ahead and put a storm impact scale only for the north bay tomorrow through wednesday morning. you have the best chance of scattered light showers while the rest of us have a chance of drizzle during wednesday's commute. future radar a little sunshine

late in the day, a few spotty showers in mendocino county, green hitting the north bay throughout the day tomorrow into wednesday morning. by wednesday afternoon we're seeing clearing conditions and some sunshine. notice from santa rosa northward that's where we have our best chance of those showers and why the one light on the storm impact scale is specifically for the north bay. we'll take a look at the rest of the seven-day forecast, in fact chance of record highs. want to bring jobina in here and say hope you had a great weekend. how is traffic today? >> i did, mike. thank you. traffic is doing pretty well for the most part. we're going to bring in a live camera right now showing the south beach camera which is an overall look of the bay bridge. you can see it's pretty crowded as you descend and make your way down into san francisco. if you're coming in towards the toll plaza it is light there and we do not have metering lights on this morning. bringing in our san mateo bridge

it's partly sunny today but rain across the north bay that's possible tomorrow. king tides and flooding today and tomorrow especially to a lesser extent wednesday and thursday as the tides start to subside. highs 5 to 15 degrees above average thursday through saturday. we'll get near some records, records are a lot of them in the mid to upper 70s but a handful of cities have low 70s and those are the ones we'll get closer to. as we get closer to those dates i will point more of those out. let's focus on today. average high about 56 to 58. we're going to be around 58 to about 61 degrees. as far as the coastal flooding until 3:00 today, and that does include parts of the san francisco bay and san pablo bay and it's all due to the king tide which hits the golden gate at 9:14. it's going to hit the coast and after that filter through the bay. we could see some flooding there. notice it's highest today and tomorrow so i would say logic dictates we'll probably a coastal glflood advisory.

tonight a ton of cloud cover out there, more fog than this morning. 38 in santa rosa is the cool spot. most of us around 40 to 46 degrees. powerful atmospheric river about to pound the pacific northwest that's just the tail end of that or the lower end of it if you will is what's going to hit the north bay with measurable rain tomorrow. i put a 1 on the storm impact scale. it's just for the north bay. the rest of us may get a little drizzle for wednesday's morning commute but that's it. once that passes you can see the temperatures take off with increasing sunshine wednesday afternoon and thursday, friday, saturday, and sunday we're looking at low to mid 60s at the coast, mid 60s to near 70 degrees for our bay and inland neighborhoods. no rain outside the north bay tomorrow and looking at the 8 to 14 day forecast which goes through next week, we have a 50% chance of below average precipitation. other than the chance in the north bay it's dry and warm for the neck two weeks. hope you enjoy it. criticism on social media
